@@Billyfishing_watch lve ordered the long one.
Nice👍👌
This video is so good my biology prof recommended it to the class today and posted a link for the whole class. Its so cool to see their burrows. I want to go catch lugworms now.
Thanks you so bud, what part of the world are you in?👍😁
Thanks Billyfishing. You are the only one I have found who has taken the time to explain how to set the pump up and given the information needed to avoid days of effort and very painful blisters.
Sometimes I can get 10 worms out of ten, sometimes not one out of 100. Now I know why. Top man!
That it exactly, and it not just pumping. Digging is the same. So the common denominator was tide and weather. Thanks Brother 👍😁
Very interesting and highly informative.
I have fished and dug lug since 1985. Didn’t even know they had Gills!
Fine video
Thanks
Thanks Brother, glad to help out 😁👌
I live in Indiana. I can count on one hand the number of times I've been to the ocean. I still find this video very interesting. Keep up the great work!
Glad you enjoyed the videos, thanks Brother. All the best, out in Indiana👍😁

Hi Larry, glad you liked it. Thanks Brother 👍😁👌
Cheers Billy, A great lesson in the art of pumping lug. looking forward to putting it into practice.
Hi bud. Glad you liked it, and hope it helps. Thanks bud 😁👌
Great video Billy excellent tutorial. Think I have been going too deep into the burrow on the first try. Will definitely try your way. Lots told me you couldnt pump blow but you have just proved them all wrong well done bud subbed
Thanks Keith, I was told that too. But they are wrong !! On a good day, I will get 70 to 90 in 1 hour. Glad you like it, fish on Brother 👍😊👌
Great detailed video Billy !! clearly shows the differences between pumping for blow lug versus yellowtails and blacks. It was'nt that long ago that people insisted that you couldnt pump blow lug
Hi Robert, I first started pumping in 08,and it took almost a year to get right, I was told the same thing, it's not possible they said. But alot people pump blow like me almost exactly the same way, So if it works it works.thanks Brother 😊👍
@@Billyfishing_watch I think the reason people believed you couldn't pump blow is because they tried it at the same places where they dug them and, like you say, those places are WAY too dry. It's all about suction and it's the water that gives it! Great video.
Was contemplating a pump. Having watched your video i think i will. Thanks for the great how to demonstration .👏
Any time Sony, fish on 👍😁
Thanks very much, just paid for my first pump and this video was really welcome, I can't wait to get it and start what you showed :)

Glad you liked it, and hope you pump lots of bait . Thanks Brother 😁👌
I bought a pump over 20 years ago and i only ever got a couple of worms with it and then gave up and went back to the fork. To be honest I didn't really know how to use it. I saw people using fairy liquid for their pumps to help with suction. I will now pass my pump onto my son and show him this great vid. Thanks for posting. 😃👍
Hi Matt, glad you liked it. When you give the pump to your son, make sure he uses olive oil. Not that poisonous washing up liquid. Thanks Brother, see you on the beach 😁👌
@Billyfishing_watch Olive oil ? I never would have thought it. I certainly will Billy. Thanks again for your help. 😊
Nice 👌

Thanks Michael, if you fish alot, it's hard to dig anogth worm's and have energy to fish as well. Tight lines Brother 👍😁
Excellent video, perfect level of detail. Would you recommend the alvey pump?
Hi Leonardo. Yes I would, that is the pump in the video. The 35mm. Thanks Brother 👍😁
@@Billyfishing_watch Thanks for the reply! Someone has offered me a used one for 40 euro, but it's actually 50mm. Do you think it would still be worth picking up?
I started with the 50mm, they work to. But €40 is to much for a second-hand outdated pump. The old pumps are short, and not nice to use. I think for 10 or 20 Euros more, you will get a much better pump.👍
Do you rinse the pump afterwards and what other maintenance is needed like the valve replacement etc.
Yes! Of course you rinse the pump, and you can buy or make the rubber washers for the pump. Thanks brother 👍
Thank you for the video! It increasingly piques my interest to collect my own bait! Tight lines!
Hi bud. You are in the US, NO? I have never seen them used as bait over your side, just blood worms. Hope you can find what you need, thanks Brother 👍😁
@@Billyfishing_watch In Connecticut, USA, often fishing the salt water shores. I think your right. Never saw anyone getting lugworm here. I sometimes use a portable minnow trap. And weighted snag hooks for menhaden.

Great video. Which pump would you recommend buying?
Hi. Glad you liked it, as pumps go they are all pretty much the same. But I would go for a stainless steel pump, with an ID of 30 mm. And the longest one you can get! Thanks Brother 👌
Thanks bro I appreciate it
Brilliant video mate well explained 👍
Thanks buddy, hope you get worms 👍🤣👌
Going getting some lugworm weekend using a fork, am I right in thinking if the worm is damaged it will be no good for bait? Great video BTW.
Hi Tommy. No! , Just gut the worm. And it will keep, for a few days or the same day unguarded. Thanks Brother 👍😁👌
the ones with the hairs remind me of the worms in the film tremors lol
Yep! Just like that😁👌
Brilliant video - thanks
Anytime Alastair, thanks Brother 👍😁
Thanks for posting this awesome video. Just wondering if this works in shallow water. I live in Sweden and we dont get tide like u guys. But we got lots of beaches with shallow waters. A couple of days ago I saw several signs of lug worms so Im curious if your technique would work. Cheers
Hi. it's funny that you should ask, because that is why I started using the pump in the first place. The tide didn't go out very much a where I was. most of time it was just shallow water, and answer to your question yes it does work in shallow water. just use exactly the same technique it takes a little bit longer because you have to wait for the sand to settle before you can see the worms sometimes. Hope it works out for you see you on the beach 👍😁
@@Billyfishing_watch haha oh I see. Well then I'll try your method. It seems like Lugworm's option nummer one when trying to catch flatfish. Were gonna try to go after Plaice and Halibut. Thanks for the answer and for taking the time making these awesome videos😃
Hi watch all your videos, most enjoyable. What size and manufacturers pump do you recommend.
Hi Chris, not sure what make the pump is, but the long ones are best. Not so hard on thee back, and the I.d is 35mm. I would not go any smaller than that. Hope this helps. Thanks Brother 👍😊
Excellent vid billy
Thanks Brother 😁👍👍
i sit possible to make a pump as cant afford to buy ...or is it too much hassle / difficult

No, alot of people make there own pumps. I think you can find it on the tube. Thanks buddy 👍😁

can you show us how to get rag worm?
Yes Neil, I sure can! Thanks Brother 👍😁
Great video Billy, what make of pump is that
Hi bigy, the pump is a Alvey, 3.5mm, had it for 10 years or so. Very well made, great for beginners and probably best for blow lug any way, the thinner one are not so good for this, thanks Brother 👍😊
Eazy billy you ok pal, the cheepest i can get fresh dug lug is 18 quid a pound. So its best to dig or pump ya own. All the best billy from GRIMSBY.
Hi Carl. How many is in a pound, roughly?

Whats the environmental impact of farming these lungworm? Surely the natural ecosystems depends on them somehow?
Hi , I am not sure if you can farm them, I know , there are rag worm farms. Why do you ask? 😊
Billy, just wondering, what diameter pump do you use?
Hi Chris, it's a 35mm pump. I got that one from Veals👍👌
Very interesting,Im a beginner.I see this is more estuary mud than traditional sandy beach which is where I go.I was more successful in summer not great more luck than skill.!Why was I struggling to locate them today ?it was ebb tide and casts but I dont see many blow holes why is this?Im going to adjust my pump and see if I can improve the suction-its a Flashmer pump and Its all there was at the time.,really frustrating!!!
There many things to take into account. 1, are they blow lug. 2 is the sand wet enough,3 are you just killing them, ie, get bits of worms, pump more slowly. Hold the suction in the pump and lift at the same time, hope this helps, brother 👍😁
@@Billyfishing_watch yes blow lug I believe and the sand is wet enough but yes,I did get tails and bits of guts etc,not very time but regular enough
@@Billyfishing_watch Thanks Ill persevere with it and Merry Xmas !
@@wingmasterjimmy6724 I think pumping more slowly and hold the sucktion and lift at the same time, I show the method in the vid👍👌

What diameter is the pump Billy
It's a 35 mm pump, Tom👍😁
@@Billyfishing_watch a Alvey is it better than 50mm for blow lug l have a 50
They work too, there just little short. 👍
I was digging lugworm last night only got 8 digging for an hour and half. Came across 3 huuuge dead ones they had been dead maybe a few days. I done it on an incoming tide in Ardcavan, Wexford. Tried looking for a pump online couldn’t find one.
Hi Darren, you can get one from Veals.Uk. I think Brother 👍😁
@@Billyfishing_watch ah jaysus!! Top man Billy 🤘🏼👌🏼
Freezing Blow lug ????? Any tips as always thought due to higher water content than blacks you couldn't freeze blow ???
Watch the video! All will be explained brother 👌
Also, go into my playlist. Select flatfish videos, and every worm used in the videos are the frozen blow lug worm!
@@Billyfishing_watch OK will do Billy brilliant info.... now take us to the white RAG beds..Lol...😀😀😀
@Billyfishing_watch just a quick question. Pumps seem over efficent surely beds must get pumped out within a short time. We see 1200 being pumped per tide... beds cant surely stand that kind of pressure...
Or or Black's very prolific when it comes to breeding..
Cheers brill vids..
Sorry bud! This link is the video for how to freeze blow lugworm.
Not sure if you've answered this but did you buy or make your pump?
Hi , I got the pump from Veals , it's the 32mm , the long slim pump they call it .hope the info helps 😁👍
@@Billyfishing_watch
Thanks, used to do a bit of pumping for blacks a few years ago. I got some friends to bring me over a pump from the UK.
Cheers,
I'll check out the Veals one so. 👍
By the way is there a particular type of bait pump you use?
No , they all work, but a long one , makes it easier, 35mm is a good size for a beginner 👍👌😁
alvey bait pumps are the best to buy off the shelf with best suction unless you can make your own custom pump
Hi Billy, were they blow lug you pumped?
Yes Johnny , they where 👍
Thanks great video
Thanks brother 👍😁

Thanks R,G much love your way Brother 😁👍
My mum caught me pumping my lugworm once
Nice 🤣😂. Fish on Brother 👍😁
On a serious note love your vids break from the norm . From an expat in Slovakia
Your a long way from home Brother, but it looks like the carp fishing is good 👍👌
sadly in italy where i live there isn't a place like this.. or at least is what i think
I think you are right, but I'm not sure. I have fished in many countries, and some times the tide doesn't go out enough. But then it's time to find an estuary. It is like that where I made the video. A big tide is 60cm and then I could get the worms. Let me known if it works like that in Italy. Thanks Brother 👍😁
@@Billyfishing_watch 60 cm tide is hard in Italy. We have small tide, like 20/40 cm.. 😣 But maybe near an estuary I can be lucky. Sadly I don't find to buy a pump! I'll try with a shovel or a fork
That's a big tide, but mostly the tides are 20/40 cm and I get worms on that tide in the estuary 👍
@@Billyfishing_watch can I try with a shovel or a fork?
@@honestmaster1932 yes, that will work 👌

Absolute magic, as stated by others best video on TH-cam on how and what conditions to pump for blow worm, well done sir.
Hi Derek, glad you liked it. Thanks Brother, see you on the beach 👍😁
Hello Billy
the lugworm is that the same as what we call here in the Netherlands and French tap
Hi Willem, in Europe there are mainly two types of w worm, one is large and has a single hole and the other one has two holes, one with a cast and one without. the worms in the video are the worms with two holes hope this helps you out. Fish on 👍😁👌
@@Billyfishing_watch I have now found out what we call French tap here in the Netherlands is black worm with you I think
if you have never used a pump to collect your bait then the diameter of the pump is also important because I assume that you need to gain experience pumping your worms i saw in other videos here about pumps with a diameter 5cm i assume the bigger the diameter the easier it is in the beginning
Yes easier to learn with but the other pump is more effective, once you get the hang of its 👍
@@Billyfishing_watch ok thanks for your text and explanation

No probs Mr Lucky, thanks Brother 👍😁👌
what diameter is your pump i have seen 22mm 30mm 50mm.
32mm, but that is really not important. The length of the pump is what you should focus on, the longer ones make your life easier. After many hours you're back feels the pain 👌

Great video Billy, any chance of a tutorial on how to freeze/preserve the blow lug...I've heard people say blow lug won't freeze as well as black lug. Great channel, keep up the good work!
No probs Kieran, but it's going to be a few months, all good things come to those who wait. Thanks Brother 😊👍
I found years ago that blow lug with thin skin didn't freeze well. Skin was too thin. However, the blow lug that were black froze very well.
They need to dry off on newspaper, wrap them like black lug and freeze. Make sure they are air tight so they don't get freezer burn.
I used to use regular gutted blow lug like this...
Gut, spread on a couple of layers of newspaper, fold them into a parcel. , Leave them in a cold fridge.. They'll last a week and go off just enough to be a bit sticky....always caught on them.
@@wanderingminstrel1768 Thanks Brother , there is a way to freeze them all, I will do a vid on it some time , thanks again 👍😊
