      They might be in the way in his van, but I slept on the floor of my van when I went camping with it (it is not converted), and I used three separate sofa cushions with wool fabric on them. You can attach them to each other with velcro. It was warm and soft to sleep on, and I slept like a baby. I got them from a second hand sofa and they threw away the rest of it. When you put them on top of each other, they make a good foot rest. You can also use them outside for a picnic.

    • @101perspective
      @101perspective 4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      I agree. Though, this particular build appears to be more for road trips than actually living out of it for an extended period of time. He doesn't have much storage space for food, clothes, etc. No heater for cold weather. No toilet... etc. Nothing wrong with that. Just important to realize this when comparing it to other builds.
      Btw, I own a 2012 Transit connect. Just over 30 days is the longest stretch I've ever lived out of it. I find it very enjoyable. However, for me 30 days was pushing it a bit much. Two weeks at a time though is a blast.

    • @redwolfexr
      @redwolfexr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      He did mention the mat was inflatable. He is camping out in a self-propelled tent. If you think of it that way his design makes a lot more sense.
      Main lacks are any sort of temp control (better camp where its temperate) and no cold storage so he is living out of cans and/or dry goods.

      This is what I got recently for my Jeep Cherokee short wheel base, 2 of these Z Beds and they work great coz they can be moved around into different configurations, they fit perfectly in my Jeep ;) Having the 2 separate single seats/beds worked out better than 1 double coz of being able to have one as a bed, one as a seat or both as a bed etc. more options.

      I think it's the people who helped build the van. It's like giving credit where he didn't build it alone, if he said only "I build this... I built that" it means he takes whole credit. TBH this irks me with people when working on a project that others have contributed in, when they say only "I did this" when really others helped.

      Nico Beirbock nah dude after a certain point it is haha. There’s a reason why they call it the energy of youth homeboy. Stop saying that cliched bullshit “ life is not over yet.” Well no shit its not over. We’re not saying you can’t enjoy life anymore. Gratitude is key. But certain things just flow easier at a younger age my guy. Just even being physically strong enough to tug ur own weight/ the weight of other items around is in and of itself a challenge. Little things become hard. I’m still young as fuck I am merely speculating as to some certain issues one may run into in their elder years haha. But fuck it just get a van and get the fugg outta here

    Beautifully crafted, well done! Such a good use of space. I love the kitchen kit in the door panel, so innovative.
    Costco sells camping mattress pads. Rather narrow for one person. But boy are they excellent! I have used mine for years in my RV. Very firm, but not rock hard. Great for the back. I think $30. They also sell a double, but not tested. The single mat is self inflating, durable, and a good buy.
    I thought the lockable roof rack was genius. So much space for big things, very well done!
    Dylan, thank you for lowering the volume of the music. I still find is obnoxious, but appreciate the ultra low volume which irritates less. Nice tour! Just that music issue.

    Only thing I don't dig is all the individual things running on small batteries. You're going to have to go through the process of changing those individual batteries at different times and they do not last as long as you would think. Get comfortable working with electricity or hire an electrician. You can be charging your battery just from the van itself or by plugging it in when available or even solar. It's simple and would be way cheaper than buying a Goal Zero.

    The fact he sleeps on the floor got me rethinking my design... Damn

    • @101perspective
      @101perspective 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, with his design he wouldn't really need to sleep on the floor if he didn't want to. He would just need to create some kind of extension for that bench. That is what I did for my Transit Connect setup. I have a piece of wood I use as a table that is slightly bigger than the one he uses. When it is bed time I take that and place it on a bucket (that I keep under the bench during the day). The wood table piece has a few small pieces of wood screwed to the bottom that keeps it in place on top of the bucket.
      Granted with his design it would be hard getting into the bed with that chain there. Personally, I just use a sturdy wood coffee table as my bench. And I need cushion when I sleep so I use 3 couch cushions. Two fit on the coffee table perfectly. The third I use as a back support during the day and place on top of the piece of wood/bucket at night to finish out the bed.

    Less really is more! I like the minimalist feel of your build. I have wondered why others don't sleep on the floor of the van...gives you way more headroom when sitting up in bed too, and if you need one, there is a wide range of sleeping pads. I'm impressed!

    • @complexlittlepirate3589

      I agree, floor sleeping is fine especially if you are already used to camping and have a decent sleeping mat. As for this van it is simply the best and I'm thrilled to see it because I'm planning to do a tiny one like this too. Previously did the full size VW T3 camper (25 years ago) round Australia, and then drove and lived in a horse drawn wagon for several years (8 years ago) and now I feel van life calling me again.

    "has everything more than I can ever want"? .... What about SHOWER and TOILET ??? As a male, easier for you to pee out in nature, jt what about if you have to do #2? I guess that's where the aromatic cedar wood comes to good use... to mask smells that are crying for a good shower ...

    Kitchen on the door, great idea and space saver and you cook and the smoke is outside , not inside. Also sleeping on the floor excellent idea . You dont need and wasted space for a bed. At night your floor converts to bed . Revolutionary concept. The only thing I would say is how do you keep floor clean if you walk on it, then sleep on it?? Possibly get in habit of taking shoes off at your front driver seat or passenger seat ... Thumbs up. 👍 A Transit van probably double the gas mileage of a large van. However I think your rack on top may hurt your aerodynamics. Wonder if a trailer hitch on back for a bike rack saves more gas, or maybe a front air dam to divert airflow over your roof rack , like semi trucks use??
    PS , thanks for video. I think your ideas are going to be stolen!!!!
    Also I tried a first adventure to a different state for biking and found out hotels are super expensive. I realize unless you got a lot of money and want to waste tons of money on food and hotels, traveling is just too expensive for me. I thank you for your video . It gives great ideas. Also a van that size can be stealth and a composting toilet, combined with a planet fitness membership for showers will work. Thumbs up again!!@
