Many cars do it, but it might give some insurance benefits to have. Might. The annoying part is that the vehicle will likely keep a warning light on if you turn off 'safety' features.
If anyone wonders what a better implementation is, my nissan's wheel vibrates when i go over a line without blinkers. You know you're wrong, and you're still in control without needing to be yelled at either. That's it

The fact that it blocks you from changing lanes without the blinker is so dangerous. I don't know if buckling the seatbelts is actually required for the car to move. But Tesla also has a "no ignition" start sequence. You get in and just put it in gear and drive. There is a brief "power on" delay but that isn't any longer than starting a regular gasoline engine car and driving away.
Chevy now has a feature you can enable; "buckle seat belt to drive", which I find incredibly irritating (I work in car rental) so I typically turn it off.

    • @club6525

Quite the opposite imo. Starting with a key requires a couple of steps (turning the key, waiting for ignition, pushing the brake, shifting into drive) and critical seconds. The startup sequence in the VF8 is simply seatbelt on, push the brake, and drive. Much quicker and much safer.

I don't really play video games anymore, but I'm still immersed in the industry's news. Their analogy is scary to think about with No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk. The "release product now and fix later" mindset is one thing when it's about a harmless video game. It's another when you are talking about a very expensive purchase that can risk your life. It's a mindset I can easily see Germany and America's top companies doing. They know they have a sizeable demographic who will buy their products regardless of their safety.

There's a reason why when companies like Honda, Toyota, Datsun/Nissan, Hyundai, and Kia (back when the last two were not the same company) started here, they started with budget-minded vehicles. People will complain about budget-minded vehicles, but if they're of limited means, they'll probably still buy them as that's potentially all that they can afford.
When entry-level luxury automakers come in to a new market, they're relying on the reputation of the brand in their other markets to offer a reason for entry-level luxury car buyers to consider them. That sort of reputation can take many, many years to build, and if the luxury car market is already reasonably crowded, can be a challenge even for a proven brand.
Tesla, for all their faults, realized that it was going to be tough and chose to use another manufacturer's car body for their first product, focusing on the powerplant and energy source. The car they used as a base was already decent enough as a rolling chassis goes, and being marketed solely as a sports car it would make itself more easily excused for any flaws that it did have. That allowed the company to develop itself before it started offering family-suited cars of its own design.

That is one of the most patently absurd things I have heard in a while. From my extensive experience with embedded sensing design, I am almost certain that what happened is this: They (correctly) assumed that the sensor could suffer two distinct failure modes (open circuit and short circuit). short circuit would indicate full power and open would indicate 0 power. Additionally, the sensor might have a single faulty reading due to electrical noise in the vehicles power distribution, probably owing to undersized power distribution cabling, and not enough capacitance (both are common faults of cost cutting efforts). So to avoid this problem, they put a software lag to prevent spurious readings from causing unwanted acceleration.
This "solution" shows a fundamental misunderstanding of safety best practices, and was clearly implemented by some individual or group with zero practical safety critical sensor experience. Every other drive by wire sensor system is designed so that electrically they only use a smaller range of the sensors output (typically 20% to 80%). This approach allows the computer to detect every electrical fault because electrical faults will always register outside of the 20-80 percent range. Someone stomping on the accelerator will only result in a reading of 80%, however, and the computer can distinguish between such an input and a fault condition. In short, this engineering failure is extremely worrying and is an indicator of inexperienced / unqualified engineers designing and implementing safety critical systems. This is a huge red flag. DO NOT DRIVE this vehicle; it is very likely to have other dangerous safety critical faults.

that's just not true. If that happened to you, you may have an unethical person at a specific dealer, but as a whole that just is not true. I have owned multiple dodge and ford vehicles over the last 20 years, and have never once had a problem with having something about the car that was "lemony" (if that makes sense) replaced. The main unethical thing about American car dealers I don't like is the fact that they all try to upsell you with features and extras you don't want or need, but lets face it, that is rampant in just about every industry or segment in America. But any problems, multiple dealers I have dealt with have always taken care of whatever problems that have arisen
In fact, most times I've had a problem with something that should not have happened, the dealer has gone out of their way to do extra - last American car I had was a Challenger. One day it wouldn't start (when the car was still pretty new, and there was no way it could have been the battery or ignition going out). The dealer brought a tow truck out, took my car in, diagnosed what the problem was and fixed it (some kind of relay or something was defective), and for free did like a full all points inspection while it was in there for free. When it was done, as I live alone, they sent a car to pick me up and get me to the dealer so I could drive her home. With things they replaced that they didn't need to yet (filters, belts, etc), the main repair, and labor, I had well over $1000 worth of service done for free.

VF reminds me how Hyundai introduced itself to the US market back on the 80’s with so much issues as the years went bye , Hyundai is refined and have good cars that compete with other cars within its car type category. Impressive N models , SUVs and EV/Hybrid cars.

On the Tesla front shouldn't they be selling a Good Quality cheap cars in US instead of Some Uber expensive Sports car beating Sedan,
like they did it for Publicity but take the case of Dodge were they known just for their Challenger and Charger they have their space but their are also other cars which catered to other economic class also,
So for better EV adoption shouldn't they just lower the prices or make some Cheaper Fun to Drive car to cater to everyone instead catering to those people who are in Higher range of category who can afford Super Car beater Sedan and their shit services like really afford some tantrum services, where the company has their tantrums and their customer base behave like some sort of person in abusive relation,
This is the thing which isn't understandable that these so called EV manufacturers claim making EV cheap but then again, they price it near or in some cases higher from the ICE vehicles and then make ads to fool people into adopting into some expensive EV cars which then comes out as half baked and Make consumers the Lab Rats or rather BETA Testers of their own hard earned money, like isn't this just a simple mockery of the people who pour their hard earned money into these so called BETA projects and get screwed,

hi, a vietnamese here. This is the first time i have ever heard of insight about this car although im local to this model (since vinfast control the media quite aggressively). So, i have several surprises after watching this
-The car is actually cheaper than in Vietnam (same msrp, but Vietnam has like 15k worth of voucher to make it up). To put into perspective, old model crv cost 50k and performance car cost x3
-its actually less bugs than i expected. i have read on forum about a man got his battery died twice, one time on highway at night, without any road lights, with tons of issues like couldnt turn the signal on. But yeah, mostly battery issue.
About softwere, my mom who has some of her friends work at vinfast said they are trying to not rely on existing patent to cut down cost (by making their own technology). And apparently, they can fix bugs that fast bcs there are tons of vf8 running as taxi (and also users' complaints)
About that sensitive sensor, I think its because of the traffic in Vietnam. Basically its like a junior version of India, a bit safer but fkin insane
In the end, dont buy this car. It is indeed unfinished product and even with vietnamese like me, its not very wise to buy this. Unless, you are given the voucher, living in Vin facility and wants to buy an electric car in Vietnam

Why not? Tesla sacrificed the lives of dozens if not hundreds of Americans in their stupid quest to do it all by themselves. And even today it doesn't work. Last week I nearly had an accident because an idiot was illegally using the broken Autopilot system and it interpreted slowly upcoming traffic jam as a queu to start instant panic-braking to maintain the full distance to the car in front.
A normal driver would slowly reduce the gap as the speed slows and that way the space between cars is the buffer.
And because Tesla's dumb system acts like that, effectively you have no space to stop and are guaranteed to have accidents. I barely missed the dumb idiot and the Tesla driver gave me the dumbest cow-eyed look when I honked like "What's wrong with keeping a 50 meter gap in a standstill and forcing you to nearly crash?" is normal for him.
I'm not saying a company injuring and killing people to get their act together is good, but once that is the precedent it becomes unfair criticism to hold others to a higher standard.

I remember my parents 1976 Subaru station wagon… I now drive a 2010 Outback, premium edition… Yea, there are flaws and weaknesses, but if a manufacturer is providing extra services, to help consumers improve their personal experience, after purchase, it means they are going to put that customer’s experience into future developments… Sounds like many of the things you’re complaining about are “not what you’re used to,” rather than “is this going to get me to and from, safely.” Roads and driving habits are different, in Vietnam. I like to point out, that you boys are big. Those cars were made by ppl a foot shorter, and 2/3 your weight. If the car was designated to carry 300 lbs, and you put 500 lbs in it, you’re gonna have issues. If you change components, to handle the extra weight, required for the American market, that will probably go away…
What I’m getting, from your story has me excited. It sounds like a company that wants to work with customers, to have an enjoyable experience with their product, and begging for feedback. That commitment to customers is what made Subaru such a great car. Hopefully they continue a path, that leads to customers being able to easily upgrade and modify their vehicles, to fit our personal needs… 🤞

I really liked this review. The only part I dislike about electric car reviews that happened in this video specifically is when a manufacturer says they'll fix things with a software update. Comparing this car to early video game releases seems problematic in that vein. A video game has zero chances of harming me or people around me, a video game is also entirely made of software. This car is not made entirely of software, it's made of many hundreds if not thousands of individual components and no manufacturer should ever get to slide on faults with "we'll fix it with a software update". Much like the Chevy Bolt battery, they attempted to fix it with "software" and failed because the failure was entirely physical, waiting for the real fix to come (in the form of a recall of the part) people lost cars and had homes catch on fire. The lack of acceleration, the faulty driver assist, could all be down to using faulty or inferior hardware but are brushed away as software by the manufacturer. Even the lack of a stop/start button might seem trivial but it seems like a cost cutting measure more than a convenience thing. It's also not intuitive as you've shown in the video, in a world where people confuse the gas peddal and brake peddal and harm people because of that, having a clear and visible start/stop button is just sensible.

When I went to the Toronto International Autoshow, the VinFast VF8 literally shut down whilst I was inside of it.
    Then it began rebooting.

I'm not sure if y'all mentioned this, but if you cannot change lanes without a blinker, that is a severe hazard. If there is something in front of you and you need to swerve out of the way, it may not let you and that could cause crashes

So...starting the car shouldn't have been a mystery to them if they've ever been in a Tesla. You get in and just drive. There's no "start" button. The car recognizes you using the key fob and/or a phone app and it only operates for that person.

That it won't, but there are some real issues. BYD in Europe disables the dashcam because Germany has extreme crybaby privacy laws where it is a literaly criminal offense to use a dashcam under most circumstances.
So put in a different software version and voila: 360 degree dashcam at no extra cost.

follow-up yes please. I would love to see progress, and also a new manufacturer enter the market on principle, so I absolutely think they deserve a chance to figure their sh*t out and try to redeem themselves

The chimes are pretty easy to explained. The traffic here in Vietnam is… not good, so the manufacture decided to put a bunch of sensitive sensors to make the driver stay on guard. Vietnamese people on roads usually are pretty wreck less. On the roads is like filling the blank space or take chances to go through every possible gaps. Feel kinda bad for American people to use the same software as us.

12 years ago. Since 12 years ago, Tesla had cars where you get in, your fob is in your pocket, you put foot on brake, it starts and you drive.
Where are these people from that for over a decade this is a surprise?
