Matt, I have been watching you guys for years. Especially on your Central America trip. You did an amazing job on this build. you have some serious fabrication skills especially for not having a proper shop. Well done and thank you for the great documentation.
Thanks. I'm pretty happy with how it has turned out considering I had no idea what I was doing and put it together in the backyard😂 And thanks for watching. I'm glad you've enjoyed the show
Nice build. You’ve done a great job of fitting a lot of creature comforts into a small space. I agree with you on the North-south orientation and I am also a Natures Head fan.
Props ! Just needs to mount those taillights to the camper in the rear, better departure angle and better visibility for following drivers. Would be sweet with 35' KOs
Really nice use of space... I hate campers with all the transforming bed/ table/ desks... cool engineering but impractical.... you can tell you put a lot of thought into ease of usability. Set up and break down time look extremely quick. Good job!
Thanks. Yeah, setup/breakdown time was a pretty high priority in the design. My wife and I spent 1.5 years living in my last build while we traveled around central america, so I had lots of time to think about what I would do differently and where our priorities are
Nice build! You should mount the Gas springs the other way around, with the Piston rod pointing down. There is a little bit of oil inside the cylinder which helps with the longevity of the O-rings and seals inside the Gas spring.
Thanks, I'll look into this. 👍 I know my last set of Bilstein 4600s was designed to be mounted with the piston rods up, but I didn't actually check before mounting these.
Hello Hello From Canada!!! Great looking rig Matt and Amie. I can tell from the video footage that you spent many, many long hours, but it shows how much you enjoying it by the smiles on your faces. I hope you guys have some more wonderful adventures because the world is in front of you, just around the next turn. I hope you all stay safe, stay healthy and stay as happy as you possibly can be in all your future endeavors. 🤘😁👍
I was on the fence about an idea I had been pondering, but this video helped me finally make up my mind. I'm gonna go ahead with the gender reassignment surgery this spring. Thanks!
Well Done! One of the better and more creative diy campers I've seen. Love all your storage, the surf locker is a great idea, would love something similiar to put mountain bikes in. Have you weighed it yet? Looks very light compared to most
Thanks so much! Best part of DIY is being creative and finding solutions for your needs (like mountain bike storage) I did weigh it and came up with 1300 lb as the camper dry weight. I talk more about it at this point in this video: th-cam.com/video/Bwbfe8-MII0/w-d-xo.html
You did an amazing job with your DIY camper. It is beautiful and looks very comfortable. I would have made the entry door a tad taller but I can see with the expandable roof it might not be possible. Would you want a low-roof camper? Is having the ability to stand more important to you? Have you considered a portable power station instead of your current power setup? I think you could have more battery capacity if you used a solar generator at a lower upfront cost.
Having the ability to stand is nice and I can sleep in the cabover too. If the camper didn't pop-up I wouldn't have enough room to sleep in the cabover or use the camper very effectively at all. I built a camper in the past that had a low roof but it was really just a bed and storage space. I did consider a solar generator. My current system is more efficient, has a lower upfront cost and can be serviced or modified as needed.
Thanks. A hose with a spray nozzle attached to the water spicket on the rear bumper. I completely forgot to show that and you're the first person to ask. Folks must just assume I'm smelly 😂
Unfortunately I haven't gotten it down to Baja yet. I think that will be the true washboard durability test. I've done a few miles on fire roads and a couple thousand miles on the highway without any problems.
Yeah. My family has been "Baja People" for generations, so between my grandfather, father and brother I've seen several camping trailers and truck campers disintegrate on washboard. So far I've only done a bit of slow dirt driving, but it held up to the torsional flex and a bit of bouncing around. th-cam.com/video/rNzNHAf828Q/w-d-xo.html
Combined gas mileage went from 19 with the stock truck empty to 15 with the loaded camper. I don't know how much of that change is from the poor aerodynamics and how much is the added weight. I'm not sure I notice much difference in handling from the height. She didn't exactly have impressive handling to begin with and I contribute the reduced handling primarily to the increased weight. It feels very similar to driving the same truck with the bed fully loaded.
We want to hear from Amy 🧐, STOP using the fiberglass excuse. We know your holding her hostage on that boat. Santa Barbara Police will be our next call 👮🕵️
For sure! We just bought a composite camper shell from a BC company 17500$ Canadian, gonna build it out to our needs. So I appreciate the work all u TH-camrs put in recording & posting the work you’ve done! Cheers!
@@Mark-id7fq I watched a ton of TH-cam videos to help me through my camper project too. A great source of info and creativity that you get to mash together and make your own. Have fun building and using your project!

Very nice set up!
you should sell the plans so others can build it too lol i would $ them! this thing is legit.
Nice build. You’ve done a great job of fitting a lot of creature comforts into a small space. I agree with you on the North-south orientation and I am also a Natures Head fan.
Thanks. I'm pretty excited to have both of those things.
VERY VERY NICE MY FRIEND👍🤙STAY SAFE GOD BLESS.
Great build and awesome edit as well - nicely done !!!

nicely conceived and created....
Nicely done dude that takes a lot of talent, I hope a test video thru Baja is next? 👀
Thanks. A test video is next... I wish it was in Baja, but It's going to be on OHV trails in California.
I must say, you’re very talented.
Great job!
That's a great rig. Lots of creative solutions. Congrats. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Very glad to see you again. Some how, I lost you!! Love the new Rig!!
Welcome back!

Great build and design❤
Hi guys. 2 thumbs up!!!
Wonderful tour Matt! I could sure use that Overlander right now! haha
Thanks, but you're gonna have to build your own 😁
😄@@TheTravelingTogetherJournal
That looks great. Horse blanket would make some nice apolstery for your seats. We used to get the horse blanket seat cover for the old bench seats.
What I like most this build were the diy composite panels and the top up roof.Love its simplicity! New subs'r from Philippines!🇵🇭❤️

Nice. I would have made a couple of different decisions for myself but obviously it is super custom to the user and well done.
That's what I love about seeing other DIY builds. The custom ideas and creativity to make it happen.
Saw you on my way out your way into south big sur!

Thanks.

Nice job. How is the sloshing from the water tank? Noticeable while driving?
It’s noticeable but not bad. It would probably be more annoying in a modern, quiet vehicle. But this old truck is already fairly loud anyway
That's awesome camper. Any advice on replicating this build?
Thanks.
It's a time consuming build process that I came up with, so if you want to do it the sameway anticipate it taking a lot of time.
Beautifully done. I have one question. How do you shower?
Thanks.

Great build. Wondering what's the interior height and size of the bed?
Thanks. It's a queen bed and standing height is 6'1". I get more into dimensions and weight in this video:
th-cam.com/video/Bwbfe8-MII0/w-d-xo.html
Dude, that camper is the bomb... How does it hold up on miles of washboard roads...?
Unfortunately I haven't gotten it down to Baja yet. I think that will be the true washboard durability test. I've done a few miles on fire roads and a couple thousand miles on the highway without any problems.
@@TheTravelingTogetherJournal Washboards kill campers.... any campers... Death Valley's "Saline Valley Road" is a good test!

Thanks for the comment. I like the idea and will try to convince her to make the video with me.
How much does the 18 inches over your cab affect your gas mileage and handling?

how much does the camper weigh?
I explain the camper weight at 1:15 in this video: th-cam.com/video/Bwbfe8-MII0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LgGcvl4_7wRfBLLP&t=75
