    I don’t like this season finale.... we were promised either a great departure or a dead man in a ditch but instead got a dragged out storyline with the cliffhanger being pushed back to next season. To my mind it should have gone
      1: 2nd referendum to clarify what sort of Brexit the public actually want (or no Brexit)

      3: General election based on domestic policies to take the country forward

    • @ThoriberoCaroli
      @ThoriberoCaroli 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Indeed.
      Having an election based on one issue, then it might as well have had been a referendum instead.
      Now however, due to the wonderful first past the post system, a large part of the population actually wanting to vote on other issues, and some wanting a type of Brexit/remain but does not want to vote on the party which have that stance.
      This is going to end up with all interpreting the result according to their will, and no one really knowing what the British people really want...

But his videos are usually on the longer side (30 minutes and up) and aren't a stream of words in those moments like TL;DR's. There probably are more, maybe even a way to move them manually at some point, but afaik you can only choose how many are played. Mostly by accounts of length of the video. It's why the 10 minute mark is so important, it allows for a second ad, iirc.

    I know TLDR News is against Brexit but their videos on average are fairly neutral, this one however was quite biased. You failed to mention that Johnson was forced to request an extension by Parliament, therefore tying his hands, whilst at the same time conveniently glossed over the fact that Corbyn changed his mind about the election because he knew the bill had the necessary support and was going to pass whether Labour liked it or not. It was a politically expedient change of heart on their part, the justification Corbyn gave doesn't hold up, just a few days earlier when the EU had already agreed to the January 31st extension he stated that in order for Labour to support an election "No Deal" had to be COMPLETELY off the table.

    Considering just the other day Corbyn was saying his 'condition' for an election was No-Deal being an impossibility in all forms, including at the end of the Withdrawl Agreement, his conditions clearly weren't met.
    The simple truth is that he was outmanoeuvred and outnumbered by the government, SNP and Lib Dems. The Bill was going to pass whether Corbyn abstained or actively voted against it - He was left with a choice of going into an election having not voted for one, which would have been great election material for the Conservatives, or jumping before they were pushed and backing the election to save face.

    • @alantbaird

      The committee stage is overseen by the Chairman of Ways and Means aka the deputy speaker.

    • @cnocbride7256
      @cnocbride7256 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All bills in the UK Parliament go through the committee stage. The Finance Bill and many important bills go through what is called a committee of the whole house. This is where the entire House is considered part of the committee instead of the usual select committees that are made up of selected MPs to scrutinize bills.
      This is often for important bills that will have a big effect on the country and as the early general election will it was put to the whole house. The committee of the whole is not chaired by the Speaker by convention but by the deputy speakers, mainly the Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee (Deputy Speaker). They do not sit in the chair and instead sit at the clerk table.

      The reason brexit is so controversial is because of how shitty the referendum was held, it simply exclaimed whether brexit should happen or not and how to go about it. Some argue that means a second referendum should be held which actually gives clarification on how to go about it (for example the options could be no brexit, government deal, no deal) and if it happened like that chances are no one would fuss because it would actually be a reasonably phrased referendum with clarity.

It's both horrific and fascinating to watch how Corbyn has had his character sullied by supposedly left wing Blairite media. The rank and file have Corbyn's back. You can only ignore the urge for justice for so long before the people surge forth. Corbyn is portrayed as a 'crazy socialist' by the media. He's just the figurehead. The leader who speaks to the goals of the people. Get rid of him and we just get another socialist to lead OUR party. We've had almost four decades of push to the right, chasing capitalism to its extremes and complete neglect of anywhere in the country that isn't the South East.

      They are kicked from their party, not their constitutency.
      It's honestly just shooting yourself in the foot if you do it like Boris, he got rid off too many. It should be used to make an example not fuck over your majority.

    I would continue to be annoyed that I am unable to vote for another two years however, I expect that all this excitement will continue for the foreseeable future.

    How is it possible that either the conservatives or labour have any support in the polls? People just vote for the brands they know instead of thinking I guess.

    This is the peoples vote, right? Now if the people vote for parties which promise to repeal Brexit it is over or if they vote for parties which want the latest Brexit plan its definitely going to pass.
