1500hp Chevette??? WTF!?

- 85hp from the factory witha 90ci motor... you would have never expected to see the Chevrolet Chevette on a race track..especially at DRAG WEEK! This Chevette has had some extreme modifications made to it, including a huge 555 cubic-inch, twin-turbo motor pushing it down the 1320 in less than 8 seconds!! Would you have the balls to drive this thing?!

I had a friend in high school with one of these. When people asked him what he drove, he always answered:

When I was in high school I used to drive a Chevette and told everyone I drove a Vette, lol, imagine if that thing had some dedicated race slicks instead of mud tires, it would be deep in the 7's!!
He had the mud tires for on the street he had slicks on when he made a pass.
Mine ran in the 12s. In the 0-60. I think that works out to about 20 seconds in the quarter, but I never ran it over traps.
I miss those little cars!

In Brazil we have some high power chevette. The popular setup is use The 250S l6 turbo or a 2 liter 4cyl turbo from chevy.

Its super-short wheelbase may actually be a benefit if it was setup as a curvy road course car. But there's a reason why the professional drag race cars that do 7 second 1/4 mile times tend to have a relatively long wheelbase.

It's 2800 lbs without driver and has the aerodynamics of a brick. It's doing what it's supposed to.

Ive always wanted to build a sbc chevette ever since my old man built a sbc vega wagon....but a BBC chevette...thats a rarity. Dont think ive ever seen one in person.

I've had 3 of these badboys (mostly stock).... if you drive in winter or on dirt roads a lot it is THE BEST car ever.... I don't think any made 85hp, I think the good 1.6 made 68 (you want the 4 sp, 3rd is useless and the long 2 is worth it). If you drive on dirt roads or where there's a lot of winter its the most fun car you will ever have, You'll never get a speeding ticket, its as tough as a old pickup and easier to fix.

Not 85hp from the factory. The 1987 Chevette, which was the last model year built, was rated at 65hp. That was the highest HP model built. I should know, as I was dumb enough to buy one new. What a slug. I couldn't even take a fully loaded city bus off the line. LOL

My dad used to have a Chevette before I was born. He told me stories how that little thing was quick once you swapped a V8 into it (which he had). I can only imagine how crazy it must be with 1500 horsepower and a twin turbo V8 LMAO

Better than a Toyota Starlet with an 13B engine... THE MOST IRRITATING SOUNDING MOTOR ON THE PLANET! A 20B sounds great, but God I hate the sound of an 13B..
This car and motor 100% original and an awesome combo.. And for it being such a short wheel base, it sure goes very straight, unlike many other short wheelbase cars like many cars I mentioned above.. Nice times and MPH!!!

I agree about the disrespectful punks for sure, but around here you just dont see it anymore, its not the "in" thing. Like it used to be fartcan exhausts with big wing like spoilers and crazy non functional body kits, 20in rims on cavaliers etc. Now times have changed and the murdered out look is trendy, and kids with money are actually into making their cars fast more than not. They may be spoiled brats, but I have seen lots of them with some pretty fast and sweet cars, its just sponsored by mommy and daddy lol.
