I didn't get to it immediately because it's a longer video, but I got a lot more out of it; it's not merely inspiring but something I'll reference when I start on all these fancy new tanks I keep ending up with. No excuses for me now, I'm painting crimson instead of off-white but it's a Deimos tank in nonmetallic colors with weathering, I've practically got the whole roadmap in front of me! Marvelous stuff.

@@brainstorm8778 th-cam.com/video/1qnJ7HlsRo8/w-d-xo.html this kind of explains it, but they rub the graphite pencil on some fine sandpaper to get the powder. But you can use it just like a regular pencil, or a bush in this case to "edge highlight" the parts you want to have a dark metallic sheen

Love the pin wash. Definitely should utilize that more. I tend to paint my headlights too bright. Looking somewhat weird on bright models. Definitely gonna try the darker approach there.
Painted my sisters in a similar scheme and overall approach of high quality, but manageable for a full army and then some, using a similar technique of more flat panels and less stark contrast on the vehicles as well. If you are struggling with high contrast on vehicles, might I recommend to instead of achieving stark contrast by lightness, to use contrast in hue and temperature instead?
I did my girls with a warm sand color from below, and a blueish tone leading into the actual (off-)white covering most of the armor. Which made for a nice greenish tone in between, while providing some warm/cold contrast between shadows and highlight, adding some visual interest. For your scheme, a purple (cold) shadow applied before all the other steps or via filter somewhere in between airbrush colors might bump up contrast both by temperature and hue in a subtle yet interesting way. Or maybe a reddish brown from below if you want to maintain the overall warm scheme.

I suspect the historical base is much larger than it seems but not necessarily as visible. I play a mix of games from fantastical, to historical then scifi - the guys at the club who play historical games often have immense collections over years. The big difference being once you have the models, they are agnostic to the rules, this means collections can often go back decades and do not need new units that are just released. As for whom plays the Axis, the chaps I play with often end up with both sides of an operational theatre and play historical scenarios. Would recommend checking some of the rules from TooFatLardies - they have an eclectic mix of periods and styles of historical

Awesome video! I’m currently painting a regular space marine rhino. It’s taking forever because I’m learning the airbrush and never have time to hobby.
What’s the thought behind the tank sides and panels being lighter at the bottom? A concession to the idea of some modulation for contrast? What trick am I missing by lighting mine essentially flat?

    • @cultofpaint
