Ideally, we should first understand the nature of reality to then know what we should do. Keiji Nishitani in his magnum opus, Religion and Nothingness published in 1961, tells us that the basis of our true nature and the true nature of everything is absolute nothingness. Nothingness, sunyata, is the key novel idea that Nishitani and the Kyoto School of philosophy to which he belongs bring to metaphysics.
