Mark Twain said, "I'm not afraid of death. I was dead for billions of years before I was born, and it didn't inconvenience me in the slightest."
If so, he was quoting me in a kind of a way - I tell anyone (that can be bothered listening) "You are just as dead after you die as you were for all eternity before you were conceived." Very few do anything but gape at me ...
Good one.
@@johnhough7738yes Mark Twain was quoting you
Plus the place we live in is infinite and recycles everything so we'll do this all again. It might take an extremely long time from one perspective, but from our perspective it will be the blink of an eye. We probably have done all of this once before.
Ol' Mark was very perceptive ...@@RJ39767793
Funny how for fleeting moments I'll really get it, and I find there's nothing to do but laugh.
Is it like profound crazy type laugh with added feeling of freedom of all worries anxieties, free of physical success, free of hate for anything due to it being perfect to what it is ,, . I cnt explain the true madness to thst feeling in the fleeting moment,
What I do think along side it when observing the whole earth racing in my mind is,,, How we can take it all too serious sometimes ,, I have one word to describe our evolution in this moment.. , , ,,
its cute 😂😂😂 .
Yeah he said that in another one of his speeches
It’s the laugh of god
I know what you mean
Mate that sounds like you have a serious mental issue I'd adore you to get proper help
Just found Alan Watts and suddnely I am 17yrs old again and one with everything. No religions to distract me, no illusions to trap me and no judgements to weigh me down.

The biggest mystery is that why is there something rather than nothing
If God exists (it’s highly likely, how can something come from nothing), then God knows the answer, and when we meet the creator, we will get our answer.
@@vodkacannonHow can god come from nothing?
@@vodkacannonspot on my friend
@@SextusHempirykThere has to be a beginning, in the beginning there was God. God has always been there.
If there was nothing before God then who invented/created nothing.
You see there had to be a beginning
There is no such thing as nothing. Nothing itself is something.
The last final sleep. I await the bliss of darkness. Quiet. Peace.
Fear is not real. Neither am I.
But if, as some think, there is nothingness then you won't be able to feel anything, no bliss of the darkness, no quiet, no peace, just nothingness.
Me, I believe there is something after the physical death of my body.
I choose to believe that we will return to whence we came, back to the Creator where we will experience true bliss.
I believe that what your belief is that is what you will have, if you believe in nothingness then that is what you will have, if you believe in life after death then that is what you will have.
I believe that at the point of separating from your dead physical body your entire life does indeed flash before you, but for those who have done terrible things, life won't flash before them it will crawl and they will suffer for all eternity, reliving their sins endlessly, that is Hell.
Final? You think there are finalities? Why? You are reality, and reality will never reach finality because there’s nothing to reach, it doesn’t move, all
moves within it, you as a person is what is not real, and it will end, but there’s no finality for you reality. You are wanting, you have a desire for an end, that desire will always remain and try to play itself out until the desire is gone, you’ll never reach any of your desires, the thought of eternal bliss may please you now but that’s all it is, a thought, a thought of a dream at that.
Old but still interesting-
There was a psychic from Deal, who said
"I know that pain isn't real,
Yet when I sit on a pin,
And it punctures my skin,
I dislike what I fancy I feel" ...
Why the music? Alan Watts does not need that kind of drama. Without it i find the message much stronger. Thats my feeling. Thank you for his voice and the beautifull film.
Seems to be scourge of many videos, especially documentaries these days. 😂
Yes the power of semantics is awesome. You can say black is white. And white is pink. etc etc etc. But reality has not changed one tiny bit. No matter how much you work or play with words. Bravo Alan Watts.

A conscious state is infinite when we die ,we will remember nothing of this world.and no one will remember you .
When the brain dies consciousness dies. The end. Never to exist again. In the end nothing matters. Enjoy everyday likes it’s your last and everyday think about death. This is the only thing that gives your life meaning. Love is anxiety. Attachment is suffering. Life is suffering. Everything we do is out of fear and love. Tomorrow is not promised. Tomorrow does not exist. We are all screwed and all on the same sinking boat no matter where you come from and what you have. Enjoy the ride that you are creating in that manipulative complex in denial brain you have. If you are 40 years of age, you only have 2080 weeks left if you were to make it to 80. Lots of people care about us. I care about people. We all have personal struggles therefore we can't visit.
No we arent. Nothing IS real. How can nothing matter, let go and be NOTHING and die before you die. We are dog shit no more no less.
Amazing insight into the nature of reality. Such expression of simplicity is beyond extraordinary.
Is it enough to feel right now we have lived? We loved, we cried, we felt, from nothing we touched existence here. I have no idea where other here’s are but only I know my own here is here and coming is my end here. I am nothing and for me that is all I ever needed…..nothingness for I lived and loved others and it was grand and beautiful and was a gift. For that I am humble and for it I am grateful for nothingness was everywhere and everything to me for I lived.
Really interesting. Something about hearing this guy talk is soothing.
Alan Watts...I love these deep videos.
@@LD-eu9gd Yeah but his message lives on...
“You wouldn’t be able to see anything unless there was nothing behind your eyes” what a quote what a quote!
In a mother’s womb were two babies. One asked the other: “Do you believe in life after delivery?”The other replied, “Why, of course. There has to be something after delivery. Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what we will be later.”
“Nonsense,” said the first. “There is no life after delivery. What kind of life would that be?”
The second said, “I don’t know, but there will be more light than here. Maybe we will walk with our legs and eat from our mouths. Maybe we will have other senses that we can’t understand now.”
The first replied, “That is absurd. Walking is impossible. And eating with our mouths? Ridiculous! The umbilical cord supplies nutrition and everything we need. But the umbilical cord is so short. Life after delivery is to be logically excluded.”
The second insisted, “Well I think there is something and maybe it’s different than it is here. Maybe we won’t need this physical cord anymore.”
The first replied, “Nonsense. And moreover, if there is life, then why has no one ever come back from there? Delivery is the end of life, and in the after-delivery, there is nothing but darkness and silence and oblivion. It takes us nowhere.”
“Well, I don’t know,” said the second, “but certainly we will meet Mother and she will take care of us.”
The first replied “Mother? You actually believe in Mother? That’s laughable. If Mother exists then where is She now?”
The second said, “She is all around us. We are surrounded by her. We are of Her. It is in Her that we live. Without Her, this world would not and could not exist.”
Said the first: “Well I don’t see Her, so it is only logical that She doesn’t exist.”
To which the second replied, “Sometimes, when you’re in silence and you focus and listen, you can perceive Her presence, and you can hear Her loving voice, calling down from above.”
Maybe this was one of the best explanations of the concept of GOD.
Good perspective, I liked this a lot. Thanks
Exactly

Love this❤
Absolutely wonderful, Thank you ❤
Beautiful. How I appreciate this man. Nothingness… is the substratum of everythingness. And yet to call it nothingness, implies that there is really a somethingness. So really… it is beyond both concepts and that’s where words and language fail because the moment you attempt to describe “it”… well, that’s not it.
I came from a course in miracles when I was just a teen, which went right over my head but for some reason it just kept calling. Then came all the channelled messages. Then Neville. Which held my interest for a while until it just didn’t. Seemed to be a whole lot more to this experience we all call “reality” than just getting what your mind desires out of life. Then came Alan Watts. Then Mooji. Then Ramana Maharishi. Then the teachings of Advaita Vedanta and somehow full circle to ACIM. It’s amazing how life leads you.
Thank you from my heart to the creator of the video 🙏🏽

Intriguing. From his perspective, nothingness is the whole of where all of existence soons gathers to and where it all comes from.
In a way he wants to come to grips with death and the great beyond that no one can explain or know about until they meet their inevitable demise.
A brilliant man with a mind that needs an excuse to escape the anxiety of what death will bring.
Bravo
Truth is not an excuse, only lies are. Anyone who is an enlightened nobody is aware that everything is nothingness and nothingness is everything. It's a paradox, but it is simply truth.
@@ItApproaches one cannot simply assume to know truth based on his own validation of nothingness.
That clearly is an oxymoron.
With anything they believe or think to be true is false because all will fall into nothingness so basically their opinion wouldn’t matter and be based on a lie because it is defined by nothing and nothing has no meaning therefore their meaning means nothing so it is nothing and just a lie they tell themselves to accept nothing as their overall fate.
However their validity does not take away the validity of someone seeing themselves as enlightened as they don’t wallow into the innate despair that mankind puts on itself. Someone who is enlightened sees past the “nothing” and finds greater purpose thereby freeing themselves of the inner turmoil of the nothingness and places an even greater quality on themselves.
That is purpose, which contradicts the nothingness to our existence thereby nothing is not a hindrance to us but something we work past to greater extensions of ourselves through seeing past the nothing and fulfilling our obligations to ourselves and what the universe entails us to be
@@c.galindo9639 Truth is truth. It can't be anything else. Even though truth is, nothingness. Reality is full of paradox's, as it's perfectly imperfect. People aka humans do ASSUME truth. This is the whole human dream. Only nobody can be aware or truth.
Life is a game. Whether we choose to find purpose and fulfil it or not. Nothingness brings great peace to the mind. Alan Watts was/is brilliant
@@Joshold Much like a body of water, whether it's a lake or ocean or a pond, if there is no fish in it, that's fine. Whether there is fish in it, that's fine. Whether it's raining and the water droplets disturb the surface or a wind does, that's fine. No matter what, the water is still, just water. Same with the mind.

There is no such thing as nothing, for in order for something to exist it must have substance and there is no substance to "nothing". Also, there is no end of existence. Since matter cannot be created nor destroyed it will always, always exist in some form. You see?

I tend to think being death is like going under a general anesthetic and never coming awake again.
It is still terrifying to be annihilated... loosing one's self, those you love... everything you have lived with for a life time. It is one thing in life none of us can avoid.
I am not into this everything out of nothing yet though I appreciate the default state is nothingness.
Nothing cannot exist. Nothing is only a concept.
“There is no other world. There isn’t even this one.”

This ia exactly what i feel for about 10 years until today, human are formed by an incident, so does with all the living being on earth ... we just race to our death by time
In the grand scheme of things (i.e. Universe) we are so incredibly small and insignificant that we're not even a speck of a speck of a speck, we're basically nothing, so yeah😎
Ones legacy written after oneself left the world
So what you're saying is, that even in our lifelong and frantic rush to be something, we are in fact the momentary antimatter which preceeds the eternal matter
Somebody tried to tell you can’t imagine nothing
It's not a prospect, it's inevitable.
It is a very likely truth that we are in a manner of speaking "nothing". Otherwise you have the unanswerable philosophical questions, "What thing created the first thing?", or "How did nothing create something?" Resorting to "God" is no help, because "God " would be a too fantastically marvelous of a "something" to simply be here without explanation or needing assembly.
Who would have imagined that "nothing" could be so weird as to be mountains and oceans and stars and talking people?
Everything is.
Nothing as a being not as blankness. Nothing as the reality

@@cbones8897 ok so I’ve been trying to figure it out as well, and the more I observe I realize how very connected we are without realizing, because we can’t detect anything else without our five sense, but that dosent mean we’re alone. Agreed, I can only soothe myself by telling myself as a human I cannot understand it all, I shouldn’t be questioning it to the point where I have a mental breakdown which is what I’ve done many times. I’m working on just being mindful in the present moment and continuing to ask my higher power to guide me and give me obvious signs 🙏 hope this helps
Y y’all afraid of death which is the nonexistence of yourself which means experiences like boredom shame or sadness, remorse or sorrow or anything won’t exist anymore so it is impossible to feel that way anymore. You fall back into the fabric of the ultimate reality which is just like when you fall asleep. This truth is why the greatest tiers of innate humor in poetry is of transience & futility. They are the most relevant to our ultimate qualities as human beings. Because our most real state is of slumber, what you call death but I call being the building blocks of the ever changing and eternal universe. Much cooler than being a human. And no need to pay taxes, feel guilty sad or anxious about anything, and you’re always expanding and innovating and making wild things happen that seem crazy and sometimes not right at the time but ultimately serve to show you what beauty is so that you can begin to appreciate how amazing it will be like after death
