  • It's always good to drop in and see Cy and Sam at the new Cotic HQ in Chesterfield. This time I was also a picking up a test bike that a lot of folk have been pestering me to get on for ages the Cotic Solaris. So here's a quick chat through from Cy on his contemporary take on the classic XC / Trail hardtail before I jump aboard it myself.

    Looking forward to hearing more about this bike. I absolutely love hardtail’s and have admired Cotic from my SoCal trails.

    Happy riding, i have the a forest green solaris and the colour is really nice in the flesh.
    More importantly the bike is so fun and has a very sporty character. It has totally revived trails i used to find boring on my enduro bike and tackles long distance multi day trips well.

    I love that colour!
    The Solaris has always been a weapon. I still have my Mk1 with a RS revelation twin air fork and it’s the one bike I’d never part with. I’m pleased to hear that the new version is going back to be more of a cross country bike. I’ll have to see if I can get to a demo day.

    I do like that colour!! :) My ultimate steel hardtail would have a blue SID…. or a yellow Judy! Please Rockshox, can we have a modern Pike in Judy Yellow??

    the rear wishbone is a nice touch, but the tire width could be increased with a pierced wishbone style that Dekerf frames use.

    • @CoticBikesUK
      @CoticBikesUK 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The wishbone is never the limiting factor on tyre width on a hardtail. It's always the chainstays around the chainring.

      @@CoticBikesUK true, but i thought it might help with seatstay clearance, keep up the great work gentlemen, my nephew will be stoked at the new frame, he's a huge fan

      Oooh, looks like mine. Lovely bike. I never got on with the Sid despite lots of people raving about them - too much compression damping for my taste, couldn’t get even vaguely near full travel, so swapped it for a 120mm MY22 Pike which is ace.

      How much tyre do you want? I run a 29x2.6 Minion DHR in mine. Hard to imagine needing more rubber.

      @@GuyKesTVwhat’s the difference between the two types of tubing?

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tombailey3807 853 air hardens when heated so it actually becomes stronger around the joints which are typically a weak spot in a steel frame. It also has a higher strength and stiffness overall so you can use less of it and make a lighter bike. It can feel too sharp though which is why Cotic use a custom oval top tube and really skinny 4130 cro mo steel rear stays to return some spring. 725 is cheaper with a naturally softer / more damped ride feel.
