Great minds think alike! I like what you did with the quick disconnect. Everything you did was a lot cleaner than mine. Also, I'm very impressed with your wall of knickknacks. Give me a couple more years and I will have a collection just like yours.

Over the years I set up my own little hardware store on the wall, nothing worse than being in the middle of a project and needing a bolt, washer, connector etc. It's been ongoing since 1982.
As always, thanks for the comments / input, these FJs are a blast to own and modify :-)

What a great opertunity to install sound deadoner

All the door panels pop off easy enough to enable you to add additional sound deadener. What I have in the vehicle is ok by me but it is easy to add more.

Thanks Bud, it took quite a few years to slowly put that together. :-)

    Hello there sir....
    Question ❓
Where you buy those nest cargo trim for the back door?

At the time, I bought them from Toyota's Accessory Department but you can still find them at the link below:

Great video! I ran into an issue, I copied your setup but only one side of the switch will work. With the ground in the middle slot of switch the red on unlock side and black on lock side of switch, only the unlock works. Where every I place the black wire on the switch (unlock/lock) it does not work. The black wire is connected to the purple wire on the 2010 FJ. On your video it would be the black wire on 2007 or wire to left of ground. I checked all the connections, I traded out the switch. I tested the wires. The lock still works using my key fob. Weird, any suggestions world be awesome.

There were a couple times I checked everything out and it worked great "then" after I put the panel back together I had an issue where only one side of the switch worked. I found that the crimp on "taps" were unreliable so I ended up soldering the taps and the issue was resolved. I'm not sure about the 2010 models and their color coding. If you use the key in the outside, does everything work normally? If it does then that rules out any prior problems to your switch install. I would take the three wires and before you attach them to the switch, just try jumping them together until you get the desired result. Then, attach them to the switch. I know it's frustrating but all you're trying to do is add a parallel circuit to the key switch. Without being there I'm sorry I'm not more help.

Are you able to actually open the door from inside with this mod?

That a good Questions, As I sleep in the back of my FJ and have to climb out the front. Which is do able but still a bit of a pain. If I can pop out the back door. Be awesome. Plus popping out the window a little for fresh air is nice. Like to make it where if I pop it out a little. It lock in that spot. So if Im sleeping, someone can not open the window all the way.

No, as I said in the video, it just parallels the external key which locks, unlocks the rear door, and pops the window open.
I am. however, working on something where you could open the door from the inside but it has to look neat and tidy as if it came from the factory.

is this negative or positive triggered? thanks

      @tanktankerson1042  ปีที่แล้ว

With the relay, you can break the source on either side, positive or negative. I chose to break the positive.

@@tanktankerson1042 I would like to be able to open the back window with my aftermarket car alarm system. The Compustar alarm system has a negative trigger wire for the trunk release, controlled by a button of the alarm remote fob. what is the best way to wire this up? I do have experience with wiring switch relays and running 12v wiring in cars, but its been awhile and I'm a little rusty. thank you

Honestly, I'm not quite sure and I don't want to lead you down the wrong path. The way I did mine was just a basic wiring set up. Wish I could have been more help.

@@tanktankerson1042 ok, so the middle wire on your switch is a positive and the blue wire is to unlock backdoor?

@@intenserider8879 It's been a while since I did this and all I did was to follow the wiring diagram of my 2 way switch I added and figure out what wires did "what" off the existing key switch on the door through trial and error. It's been a while since I had this apart so I cannot explain further without going out and taking the back panel off the rear door.
