    Great video. I'm new to bonsai and just received an azalea as a gift. Do you have any videos that help a beginner go all the way back to just starting. I'm a little nervous about overtrimming the branches. Been watching a lot of videos. I'm in NW Louisiana.

    Hi Jason, I just potted my azalea a month ago. It is still really young so the branches are really thin. The leaves have started to turn brown and dropping but I was told that was normal. I am unsure of how to prepare it for the winter. Should I keep it indoor or leave it in a garage? Thank you!

    excellent stuff as usual! QUESTION: just picked up a stock evergreen azalea and as soon as i pulled it from the pot, it was obvious it was EXTREAMLY root bound. after doing the standar root break up, and now working down to surface roots, they are literally wraping around half of the trunk base in a very unappealing way. can i cut away these wrapping surface roots? is this azalea doomed? will it live, but I just need to accept this ugly coiled base?

      Topher Boyd you can cut it. if it doesn't live you arnt out much, but if you don't cut it, you'll always have that flaw, unless toy can incorporate it into the design. that's why I like imports. they started the work from the beginning, not later in life when it's so hard to fix.

    Great video! One day I hope to make it over and buy a tree from you guys. It's amazing how different the care is for lot of these trees in fl vs the rest of the country. I have a question I'm in central east fl and I have a young Japanese black pine that I've been keeping semi shaded for fear of burning it is that what you would recommend down here or do you think I can move it up to almost full sun? Thanks

    • @SchleysBonsai
      @SchleysBonsai  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MSC413 in order to reduce candles and keep your tree compact, you should grow pines in full sun. preferably 6 hours at least. inorganic bonsai soil and use organic fertilizers. there are many species specific techniques on pines as well.

      Jason Schley Ok I will be sure to move it to a better spot I had never heard that before.
      Thanks!

    Hi Jason! I just planted my first azalea trees today, and I know I've got a long way to go... ;)
    I live in Ohio, how would you suggest I water it and manage as they grow? Ty!!

    Great video. I moved here from California and have just recently become more interested in Azalea bonsai. I thought that since this area had so many azaleas that their care would be no problem. I 've since noticed it takes more than I thought. I also want to take the time to come by and visit, since I'm here in Astor and found out you are so close. Thanks again for a very informative video

    I’m scared my azalea bonsai is sick. It’s leaves keep falling off and are very dry. I reported it with bonsai mix soul and fertilised it with azalea fertiliser. And expose it every few days to afternoon or morning sun. I have trimmed a branch and the colour under is still green but not sure what to do about the leaves? Can you help?

    Good video. I just purchased a Satsuki Azalea 'Apple Blossom'. The leaves have brown tips - do you know what is causing that? I live up North in Zone 7/Southern New Jersey. Thanks.

      Bad soil, too wet, wrong fertilizer, nutrient deficiency, possibly insects. Very hard to diagnose without it in front of me, but there are some options to check

    Hey J, when doing a repot from organic soil to bonsai soil, should I remove all the soil or leave some organic soil? Also when is the best time to do a repot and hard pruning on azaleas?
    Thank you, see you soon .

    Hi there, can you please tell me when is the best time to repot an Azalea

    • @Lara-234
      @Lara-234 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends how long it's been in a pot and pot size

    • @-RizonGaming-
      @-RizonGaming- 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably in the summer after blooming. The azalea would be at its least fragile state.
