The whole helping-dad-with-the-computer thing is the most common ground I've ever struck with Asmond. It's a monthly thing for me in order to stop him wanting to buy new pcs.
My dad played wow with 2 accounts. One with a hunter as his main which would be nothing more than "pet attack. Auto attack." (fails to feign death, interrupting shot, wing clip or anything else. Basically just spam what wasnt on cooldown) and the second character, on /follow, with "heal" on the 1 key. He'd just reach over and press 1 on the second computer's keyboard any time he'd be low on health.
Im not joking. Hes been subbed since 2004. and still plays to this day.
24:15 Final Fantasy XI's original gear philosophy had this problem solved during the 75 cap era. First off, there was tons of incredibly powerful equipment that were nowhere near max level requirement to use them that were never just automatically all obsoleted by something with a higher level requirement. Throughout the entire game there were pieces from the low levels that carried up all the way through to the highest levels. And things that came out rarely straight up just obsoleted entire pieces of gear before, certainly not entire EXPANSIONS sets of gear, they were all about filling out new niches and expanding options, not just automatically obsoleting everything that's a lower level than it.
This is my absolute biggest complaint with FFXIV. Everything is obsoleted by level... Absolutely EVERYTHING. And there is no uniqueness to any gear, it's all just slightly higher stats...

Vanilla has enough content to support you for years
you can try doing every single quest, every single dungeon, every single raid, getting all BiS gear for your character and after you do all that ?
roll another class and try to get BiS with them, and then do it again until you get BiS on every single class (maybe even complete every single quest,dungeon and raid on every single character but that is pushing it)

doing all the dungeons is easy... minus stocks for horde or RFC for allies. Raids are so easy they aren't that fun. Reputations are a boring grind not that entertaining to watch.

The first time I went from Shadowglen to Ashenvale with a Night elf, and then from camp Narache to the Crossroads with a Tauren, my teenage brain just exploded from the sheer size of the game. I'm not sure if anything will ever give that feeling ever again.

I used to be the writer/"designer" of those forms - and other text, as I wanted my guild (no matter how much I loved/hated it) to stand out as the best, at any time... About the "content post Naxx" part. What Blizzard can do is rather make WoW 2, and make it so that it would be beloved by both Classic and Retail/Modern WoW players. Finish up the current storyline and a new one set in the distant future.
Meaning a totally new game, reminiscent of Classic but still having some benefits from Modern WoW.
And if you ask me, I don't want "Post Naxx" content based on Classic WoW. "Post Naxx" equals TBC.

Content post Naxx imo is that if Classic is popular enough they'll release BC, probably while keeping a Vanilla server running.
@@Buhnkiller There are ways to recognize that investment. Example, Dota 2 used to have an account level and items drops would occur at milestones. When they reworked this system into the league system, they made a "trophy cabinet" for your public profile. You select the order of the cabinet and the top three trophies are beside your name if people hover over it in the score board or visit your profile.
Valve credited players with a set of trophies recognizing their your old account level before that system was turned off. When they made changes to their item system, they turned a gem that was placed in the inventory as a recognition of beta players that had invited people to the game into a trophy to display as well. If you hover over an unranked profile in dota, and they have 100+ account level trophy and this gem displayed, it means that someone who's played over 3000 hours of dota has returned after a break, they might be rusty, but they're not a beginner.
Blizzard could easily do the same, but it would take a lot of work categorizing existing achievements and working out a trophy system. They key with the Dota system is how well they've communicated what the different trophies mean, from humble silver cup to ornate ribbons and stars for the highest levels. There's detailed text descriptions on what the item is for when hovered over, a new player who has no idea can see at a glance gauge how experienced that player is. It's a "big old epeen" measurement and it's very effective, like purple hearts, you might not know why someone has one of them but if they've got 10, they're a really big deal. A similar system in WoW could still give you massive bragging rights and remove the sting out of "starting again" by giving your recognition that no other new player could ever get.
Honestly any way you slice it, the future of Warcraft is having WoW2 at some point. Heck, give us WC4 and a couple of expansions in the interim to set up the story. Part of the problem with WoW now is that Blizzard killed it by 1,000 small cuts for old players, and it's too ancient, bloated, and confusing for newbies to appreciate. Oldfags want to rush through everything so they can sit bored at max, Newfags feel like they're wasting their time leveling and making the trip - so much so that many just quit or don't bother getting started.
New game means a fresh new experience for everyone, a level playing field, Blizzard can scrap shit that hasn't worked properly but is too late to remove.
You know what I'd love? Flying reworked. Instead of just being there so you can ignore content, give us new things to discover after we earn it. Quests on top of plateaus, have something like a cave city carved into a cliff face that you have to fly to if you want to access it the first time. They have the tool, why are they not using it?
There should not be a classic game but a few servers start the game from scratch every year and go through the expansion progression as originally done and consolidate at the current expansion.

It would be great if they just open the closed doors of the actual classic world. Means, Hyal, Karazahn, The Karazahn crypt, the unfinished areas on the world map which were intoduced in cata, but an alternative version of it. The Dungeon portal of Azshara linking into an actual dungeon. Old Ironforge and so on. . You might even get some unexplored town or ruins on the long empty seasides nobody get access aside of swimming. While keeping the Powerlevel at bay. Means nothing simply stronger than Thunderfury, but the newest hardest thing could be on an equil level. (the important thing is not to just outmatch it)
Wait private servers change stuff to make it harder? Well that finally explains why lvl30 Raremobs have 5K hp and twohit me. I always thought how in the world did i beat theese guys in classic? Yes they were elite but not simply impossible, on my private server on the other hand... never try to beat an named elite Boss as long he is not grey. Only possible exception... fear.
most Pservers just upped the armor, damage, and hit points of the mob, mob resistances was upped really, so physical damage classes got hosed more on private servers.

Classic private servers were not harder than actual vanilla. Even in the private servers they had no idea how certain things worked like spell resistance and armor values. They would try to emulate it but ultimately after the content creator Q&A and even the beta itself armor values are higher, things have random spell resistence, and all mobs cast spells like intended. Its slowed down leveling easily by 20%. Now only this Ion himself has said all servers he's looked into had values wrong or had them non existent. Example being caster bosses usually had High spell resistances while others would have drastically high armor. Meaning certain bosses flat out melee had disadvantages while caster has disadvantages in others. Not by mechanics but flat out design.
Ion even said "back then, we had a boss that we decided to just add 90 shadow resistance on, for the lols". The design in vanilla was drastically different to private servers trying to replicate it and they were almost always easier than they were in actual vanilla.

The pvtservers i played on were easier, usually missed "mechanics lul" as well, there were exceptions but none i played at least have been harder. Not in the least.
i see loads of people from darkspear today though it seems like every person i see is from darkspear, now i hardly ever see them in any of my groups but when im in boralus its like 80% of the people who run by are from darkspear how is it dead? if darkspear is dead then my server is super dead. i mean i know my server was way bigger back in the day, i would have left a long time ago if i didnt have literally everything there. i guess i could go back to playing one of my old servers but they are still like BC era

Still, I mostly felt frustrated to see people in wow because of mob tagging. That was always the case. Seeing a guy run to tag a mob that I'm clearly going after before I can tag it was infuriating every time. Sure, I could add the guy to a group but at that point the guy has been a major dick and I just want to fuck him up. Even when I do swallow my pride and add them they'd decline like 50% of the time.

I do love how ignorant this stance is and only people that never played Vanilla can make such bold claims. Even if the knowledge is more widespread, the logistics alone will always kill less organized guilds. Player skill means absolutely nothing if you cannot organize those players, and even more importantly, keep them mostly happy.
