Scotty loves talking trash on dodge caravan and chrysler town and country
But if you baby them they can get over 300k miles
Hey Scotty I got a Jeep wrangler 2018 sport unlimited 4 door 90k miles. I want to trade it in for the 2023 Honda pilot ex-l. What do you think?
A neighborhood guy (college student) had a summer job at the local Toyota dealer as a 'lot boy'. He'd stop by to visit occasionally and BRAGG and BOAST about how much fun he'd had that day taking customers cars out to a local car wash, or gas station to fill up to prep the car for delivery. He'd deliberately wind the cars up as far as they'd go in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, gear then slam them into reverse to 'boil' the tires. He loved to do 'neutral slams', especially on brand new cars. I just wanted to slap the dog crap out of him when he'd mention doing that crap. So disgusting.
Hopefully he got caught doing that crap and got fired
That’s why the youth get high insurance rates
Easily peer pressured immature lunatics
Well, you know his name.. should have called the dealership right away
I worked at a local tire chain shop and some of the technicians would abuse customers vehicles. There was nothing I could do about it. Avoid these places also. These shops hire anyone.
@@user-zv3fe4nz8oEven dealers hire just about anyone due to the labour shortage. Use local garages recommended by friends. If you don't have friends, use google maps and check the reviews.
28 out of 34? Yikes!! I took Scotty's advice and got a 2009 Highlander....made in Japan 😅🤣
200k and still runs awesome.
Quality control on modern cars is really bad, Scotty. It's sad.
True… but…. The toyota 4 runner and tacoma still seem less complicated and reliable😁👍
It’s not just with vehicles, either. I can’t figure out if we’ve sunk that low or if we just hear the bad stories because of antisocial media.
Yep it’s like everything is just junk these days 😩
True statement in general but Honda is horrible compare to others. I can’t agree more to Scotty as a 2018 odyssey owner.
I love toyota
Never trust a dealership! Just took a 2107 Highlander with 67K into dealership for oil change since regular mechanic was busy. They said I needed $1,600 in service everything from tuneup to air freshening. I told them absolutely nothing more than what I asked them to do. My rule of thumb is: the nicer the waiting area, the higher the price. That's how I pick a mechanic. Been using that rule for decades. If you see pilot, interior design or yachting magazines in the waiting area, run for the exit. Find a good local mechanic and save a fortune.
Just get one of those pine tree air fresheners at the dollar store and keep the $1599
If you keep going to those Stealerships, you Will never be able to afford to drive a car that is out of warranty.
It's a shame. You buy a Toyota for reliability and then the dealership isn't trustworthy!
Hence the term Stealerships 😉
Same with Honda dealerships. Absolute scum.
So you didn't know car sales people are rated only below politicians for trustworthiness?? 😂😂😂
@@JP-ho6zc It's not about the sales people. I'm talking the sleazy service departments.
@@joffyjazz so the sleazy service department tried to sell you stuff?? 😄😄
I own a 2000 Honda Civic ex, I bought it brand new back in 2000, I love my Honda, still runs great and looks great. People ask me why don't you buy a new honda, and it's videos like these, that make me not want one. my car has over 187,000 miles and no recalls on it. unlike recalls on today's Honda's. I plan to keep my car for many more years, no interest in a new one.
There was a time the Honda Accord was the best car.
Was that in the book of Acts where the disciples were together in one “Accord?”😊
I'm still getting an Accord this year. Still the better buy.
@@SaithusXtoyota and hondas are the most reliable, they have issues but they’ll last you the longest
The previous gen Accord really couldn't have been any more perfect. Honda wet the bed on the current gen.
My last and final experience with a dealer and warranty was a 1989 Ford F250, 7.3 diesel.
I live in Tucson. It was great u til I went elk hunting in Northern Arizona, where it gets cold.
Diesel wouldn’t start.
Dealer changed the HP fuel pump three times. I finally took it to an independent shop. They diagnosed the problem as a faulty glow plug timer. $150 and it’s fixed.
He’s not wrong on Honda ac compressor. My older acura rdx ran great pushing almost 200k and only thing that ever went bad was the ac compressor- loved that car
Then what will be the problem
Yea I got 2003 accord ac went out otherwise just maintenance
He is completely wrong about there being a brake recall on my Honda. Looked it up and there is none.
2010 civic and mine has ac issues I will not own another honda.

NHTSA safety recall results (2)
Recall information provided by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
Service brakes, hydraulic: Foundation components: Master cylinder
Recall date
2023-06-28
Recall no.
23V458000
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Civic, 2020-2023 Ridgeline, 2021-2023 Passport, 2021-2022 Pilot, and 2020 Acura MDX vehicles. The tie rod fastener that connects the brake booster and the brake master cylinder may have been improperly assembled during manufacturing, which can cause the brake master cylinder to separate from the booster assembly.
Recall consequence
Brake master cylinder separation can cause a loss of brake function and increase the risk of a crash.
Recall action
Dealers will inspect and repair the brake booster assembly as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 7, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are VEU, AEV, and ZET.
Honda accord 2014 with 215k miles, still runs great!!
I just bought a Blue 2006 Honda Civic EX with 167000 km for 6k CAD. It drives very smoothly and pretty good gas mileage. I'll stick with older Honda for now 😊
From Canada
I just got an 07 with 172,000 miles… I had to put an engine in it though as the previous owner ran it without oil. Solid cars
Toyota included. my 21 tundra is the worst quality since '85. 5 yotas to compare with
I bought a new 2004 Blue civic for $13,500 USD. Sold it with 30k mileage in 2010 for $13,500. Had a '78 civic I bought for $500 in 1990. Ran it into the ground. I now have a '21 HRV. Great car. Hondas are great.
I have a Canadian assembled 2005 Honda Pilot. It purrs and shifts like new at 250K. Like every older car though some high dollar repairs are happening. I'm waiting on the 2024 Subaru Forester if the seats have improved.
I have an 07 ridgeline and 2011 accord v6 they both treat me well
I do have to say my friends 2013 Chrysler Town and Country with 210k still goes down the road well, she drives around alot shooting photos. It's alot of highway mileage but I was VERY impressed how it still ran and shifted through gears smoothly. Mind blowing lol
I agree 100% with Scotty about changing your own oil. I've been changing the oil in my cars for years. I believe you should perform most of the maintenance on your own cars to the best of your abilities. There's plenty of tutorials on TH-cam , most notably Scotty's, to guide you on most aspects of automobile care and maintenance.
Yeah but its good to have the maintenance history on the carfax if you sell it later.

I did a cost break down one time and found that it cost me just as much to change my own oil as it cost to have a shop do it plus i dont have to get nasty and deal with disposing the oil myself

Buy a Honda don’t buy a Honda I’m so lost
Yet another reason for me to keep my 2003 Honda!
I've been driving my 2008 FA5 Civic Si for the past 12 years and it's been great. 200k km, winter driven and it still starts with the car starter remote at -25 °C. Shows no signs of fatigue engine or transmission and I have been revving it to
8 200 rpm probably more than I should have.
I don't want those new plastic, digital, touchscreen, no handbrake, overly expensive cars that are so tamed down that you feel like you're driving a ball of cotton candy around.
I have a 2010 civic with 289k miles. Only 2 ac compressors replaced along with basic maintenance
Cuban model will be very popular in the future: drive it until it literally falls apart.
I just had issues with my 2012 civic blowing cold air intermittently. Ended up changing the relay for like $10 with fingers crossed that the clutch on the compressor would start spinning… worked like a charm
I had a metro stick 3 banger. Its slow but reliable. Got 140000 miles an good mpg.
Pop had a 87 Dodge Caravan with tow package, we drove it from NJ to the Colorado River Expedition straight with 6 drivers and 3 Uniden Radar Detectors netting only 1 speeding ticket in PA on the way home, tons of fun with those bench seats and sliding doors! Best road trip car ever plus towing boats, snowmobiles, etc. Needed 3 motors in 10 years, but what a blast back then, memories!
Scotty i give you a thumbs up everytime your 100% right i realized Honda was in trouble when the gas was getting into the engine oil on all there new CRVs
This is really good content, subbed
My friend's wife had an old 3 cylinder Geo Metro with a standard than ran for 10 years or more! It was a really fun go cart to drive and we'd take it to the football stadiums or wherever 'cause it can park anywhere! One time we squeezed it into a half space behind a stretch limo in the VIP parking, right up front. It WAS a hunk of junk though.....
a Oil change shop stripped out the oil drain plug and used a Heli Coil to put it back together - and they didn't tell me ! A few months later my mechanic was working on the car and saw it when doing a oil change . He said that its very expensive to replace the oil pan BUT he could tap it out and install a new larger sized drain plug to fix it
I have a 2004 EX-L V6 Honda Accord. The AC was blowing hot air. The mechanic added some freon and now it works better and colder than my 2015 Tacoma.
As a Honda owner for 30+ years this is disappointing. I have friends who have Accords with the 1.5L turbo and have oil dilution problems, also premature head gasket failure. So sad. So far my '15 Accord with a naturally aspirated 2.4L has been flawless. I plan on keeping it for a very long time.
My brother messed up the threads on the oil pan fifty years ago. The fix was a plastic plug that looked like a butt plug. Easy to remove and re insert with a small rod supplied.
I’m still a Honda fan. Every car company has recalls. Honda is still a excellent car. Their engines still look to be very similar in design to the old proven 200k+ cars. I’d still buy a Honda. I don’t buy the being made in another country thing contributing to break failure. That’s a part failure. Especially if enough vehicles have been effected to prompt a recall. That’s not about who assembled it. Also these parts are installed as an assembly, torqued to spec by their equipment. It’s a part failure. I drove 3 different trims of the accord before I made my decision. They literally drove exactly the same. They all drove excellent and they were indistinguishable from each other. The quality is very good. You could drive 10 new Hondas of the same model and not notice a difference. All drive perfectly. I’m at 90k miles in 3 years and I can’t tell any difference from when it was brand new. It still looks brand new inside and out as well other than a couple bubbles on the infotainment screen which just happened and it’s driving me crazy. I do live in Florida though, and the heat is definitely baking it. Nothing I can do about it. Everything else is perfect.
I agree and Scotty was wrong about my Honda having a recall. I checked and it didnt have any recalls.
Every manufacturer has recalls, albeit minor ones most of the time.@@lancelotlink3907
That being said, of the current Honda Civics, the one that interests me the most is the Civic Sport Hatchback with 2.0L normally aspirated engine (no turbo) and manual transmission (no CVT). I simply trust that combination the most for the long haul. And those infotainment screens? If you keep your car for the long haul, that is going to be a problem - the two biggest enemies of electronics in general and screens in particular are heat and humidity. And good luck finding a replacement 10+ years later.
Meanwhile, my 2011 Honda Civic with 190K+ miles just keeps running like a clock.
@@wildbikerbill6530I, am a Honda fan going back to the 80s Accords. I actually have driven nothing but Hondas since 95. I just purchased a 23 Pilot and love it so far. I understand why all the Accords are dummying down their motors for emissions and gas but I don’t like it. I always thought a good compromise would be for them to go back to their old 4 cylinder, 2.2 liter engines. Those things in the old Accords drove forever, were dependable, had long life, and all you needed was to change the oil. They had good power as well for a 4 cylinder engine. I detest turbos, hybrids, and that 1.5 liter, 4 cylinder. These are good on gas but they have no real power. I just traded in my 13 V6 Accord with over 260,000 miles and no real issues. I mainly got the Pilot because it still had the straight V6 motor.
I think Scotty should tour the Honda Plants in Ohio I worked in one for over 30 years we fight very hard to keep quality up.

As long as you change the trans fluid (drain/fill) no flushes and oil changes no more then 7k intervals (if you do city/hwy mix) they’ll keep running

replaced the radiator on my 2000 Honda Accord a couple of weeks ago, during this 104* Texas heat wave (that continues) old radiator made in China - so is the replacement - and of course, they didn't match up on the lower mounting bolt(s). Everything else matched, amazingly, the a/c still blows some cool air, 178,000 miles, only other issue is an automatic transmission that acts wonky when cold. I'll probably be buried in this little car, could never afford a new one, but that's ok.
There have always been recalls. Nothing new is happening. Nearly 15 years ago Toyotas were accelerating out of control and killing people. We still hail Toyota as the premier auto manufacturer.

Scotty, I’ve got a 2003 Honda CRV with 140k miles on it but the 20 year old suspension is starting to give out. Is it a car worth replacing the suspension for? Especially since I got the car for cheap
As long as there isn't excessive rust on the frame/subframe, take care of that baby by replacing things when needed and you'll probably double the mileage.
Down in Brazil for 3 years and have narrowed my car search to 3: Honda HRV, Toyota Corolla Cross, and VW T-Cross. All use local “flex” engines to run on majority % ethanol. Any thoughts on which to get. TY
Honda and Toyota are making deals with GM, that’s the end of the quality
Recipe for disaster. Nothing wrong with buying an older Toyota or Honda, back when those companies were more concerned about the quality of their products vs. making crappy deals for the sake of profit.
Toyota stole every idea from GM to begin with and have had a partnership ever since.
What a year model was the last new GM product you bought? I have one with 364,811 miles and another with 164,000+. I've replace ac compressor, alternator and water pump on the oldest. Still waiting and I know it's coming soon to do anything mechanically to the newer one. If a manufacturers quality goes deteriorate then it can surely improve.
you must be out of touch, they had a relationship for 25 years between Toyota and GM that ended in 2010
Toyota has a deal with Mazda not GM 🤦♂️
HeyScotty, I’m looking for a minivan and don’t know what to buy! I had a Sienna and we had to replace the steering link bar thing 3 times in 200,000 miles then a severe coolant leak occurred which was not something a DIY guy can fix from my experience as it leaked again and because of the engine experiencing a severe drop in power and the air compressor going out I just sold it. Can you please advise me what is a good choice doesn’t matter the year I’m looking for a cheap work vehicle here with the room a truck bed offers and is easier for a DIY guy to maintain?
IDK I think if you get a base model Camry, they can be good cars. I have a "base" model Camry (2020, but the LE version which is near base), and have had no electronics issues. When you start getting into the expensive infotainment systems, heated seats, electronic parking brake, which the SE/XLE/XSE have, then you're asking for problems. I do have the blindspot monitoring but it's all been working great since day once. Of course I expect that it will fail at some point, but it can just be turned off at that point in the settings of the car.

Honda wants full synthetic in their vehicles, I got a letter 2 yrs ago stating this. I figured it was because they wanted to make sure of longevity. A lot of people use 87 grade gas and that’s not high enough it states 89 in the manual. I use 88 because anything over 88 is expensive for gas.
Use to Have a Plymouth Grand voyager we kept the fluid and filter changed... never had Transmission problems. When we sold still

I learned to work on cars starting with a geo metro 😂 good times
I remember working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car. We had a bunch of Geo Metros in our fleet back in 2000. In order to rent them out we started a $9.99 a day weekend spacial to rent them out. The reason why is everyone would avoid them like the plague. I worked at the Regional Office dealing with Consumer Complaints, even at $10 a-day would get a lot of complaints with the Metros. So corporate replaced them with the Mitsubishi Mirage.
Lol. They switched from one crapper to another. I was briefly in subrogation for a different big rental company and learned that business was pretty dirty. Clip a renter for $45 to “repair” a windshield chip and if they didn’t argue or question the bill, a couple weeks later, they’d have us bill $450 or more for “replacement “, knowing good and hell well that windshield chip was just filled and not completely replaced. They went nuts with charges and threw the rental agreements in the trash when 9/11 occurred. I lasted about 4 months and decided it would be more honorable to be the doorman of a crack house than to do damage claims.

I bought a 3 cylinder Geo Metro for my father. Standard transmission. Plenty of power to run down the highway at 80+ mph, even with the AC on.
They're light as a feather so their power to weight ratio isn't as bad as one might think at first.

I have a 1991 Chevrolet Geo Metro LSI Convertible that has the original engine in it. I had to replace the original transmission because it was worn slap out, got another transmission that was a used defective transmission that went bad, third transmission i got worked perfectly fine. It is a 5 speed manual. Granted my original engine is worn out completely somewhat and sometimes hits on all three cylinders to only two. Believe it or not though it still drives down the road straight as an arrow. It also still gets great gas mileage still to. I love driving that car. Only cost about $670 bucks when I bought it. Only had to put an alternator on it it engine compartment wise. And yes I live in the states.
I have a 2019 Honda Ridgeline... it was a bad decision... constant issues with the tailgate, and 'shuddering' transmission. The thing didn't even have a tailgate lock.
Now you tell me. 2022 civic with the naturally aspirated 2 liter engine. I bought brand new - already had to replace the main wiring harness and the valve cover gasket. It was under warranty but still. 18k miles on the car it shouldn’t have those issues.
Dodge should’ve stuck with the transmissions they had in the 1994-1999 caravan. You know the boxy ones.
Step mom had Two Plymouth voyagers and both lasted 15-25 years one had 400k and the other was 280k and she wasn’t one to even keep up with oil changes so I doubt she ever changed the trans fluid in them. But they kept on running strong!
Bring back the k20s and k24s!!!!!
Civic Type R and Integra Type S have the K20 series engine but out of reach for most people sadly.
My grandmother bought a, three cylinder, Geo Metro and it ran fine for a long time. It was nearly identical to a Suzuki Swift. The thing, no kidding, got nearly 50 miles per gallon on a highway trip to Florida.
I'm having my 2014 Acura MDX transmission rebuilt right now, and I did the fluid changes every 20K-25K miles. Honda still hasn't figured out how to make a good transmission.
True about the quality of work at dealerships. it is not guaranteed. Years ago I took a car to the local Ford dealer for work and the service manager was honest. He said I would be better off to take it to the local vocational school to have the job done.
my 7th gen accord sometimes takes 2-8 times self like self dies after 2 sec and the car starts after some attempts. can you tell whats problem like battery ,starter or battery cables
Dealers, yikes. I often buy Mazdas and their dealer network is really spotty.
I’m lucky to have a really good one here in Fort Collins, Colorado but I’ve been to quite a few bad ones
What’s your opinion about Toyota MR2s?
Have to disagree about the Chrysler minivans. Over 200k each on two of them and all I did was tires, brakes, and oil changes every 3k. Wife's current Town and country has about 180k so far tires, brakes, oil changes and 1 wheel bearing
Had one. Trans completely shot at 200 000 km.
Chrysler minivans have a bad reputation because the trannys all broke early on in the 1980s and 1990s. I rented a brand new dodge caravan in 1991 and the tranny broke on my trip. They became much better in the early 2000s after Daimler bought.
The dodge vans rode very very nice. Even the 1st gen.
That's how they sell, because they're very quiet inside and ride very comfy.
Not mine.. 2015 brand new. 3 months later. My transmission.. !! Took a. Dumb on me. !! Never again !! 😡😡😡😡😡😡
Family had a 2008 Dodge Caravan, bought new, put over 190,000 on it and never had a single solitary problem with it, just routine maintenance, tires, a battery or two, serpentine belt, brake pads. And yes, extremely smooth, quiet ride.
@@santaclause2875 I'm not a Dodge fan at all, but I would definitely proudly own one of their vans. And I like their Chrysler LeBaron also. Hardtop or convertible wouldn't even matter. But they're not that bad. People just like to neglect their vehicles and blame the manufacturer. Embarrassing to admit that you didn't do the required scheduled maintenance on your rather "expensive" vehicle because A: you're either too cheap
OR
B: too poor.
So they blame the automaker. Very simple math lol
@@harveyhankerson8359 yeah you definitely got a lemon 🍋 💛
I don't know for sure, but I have a feeling Chrysler has even worse quality after the Fiat buyout. China parts everywhere. Every "American" automaker uses chinese-made auto parts. I didn't say every single part was made in China. But even (1) part is too many.
@@thewiseguy3529 Very true !!!
Just bought a brand new HRV, ordered in dec got in April. This things got 6k miles. I know for sure there’s a problem with the control arm/steering rack. This thing sways at high way speeds. I don’t mean sway during windy I mean slight noticeable swing during non windy conditions. Brought to the dealer of course they said there’s nothing wrong. I don’t know what to do now. I called corporate they said see you can get another opinion elsewhere
What if in my 02 Toyota 4Runner, the clock and radio clicks on and off randomly? Got a new battery 2 days ago
What about new Honda type R 2023 FL5 do they have any problems ?
Well I just bought the new 2023 Accord Hybrid well see if it will have brake problems or other issues
Do an episode on the new Land Cruiser
get a oversized bold and rethread your oil pan
Watching these videos as if I'm going to do this myself 😂😂
Do you think the 3.5L v6 engine thats in the 2019-2022 Toyota Avalon will last a long time?
Yes, solid car. Old school Toyota tech for the most part. No turbo and conventional transmission, good stuff.
Are 1 series BMW any good in USA.?
I had a Metro and could move it by opening the door and putting my foot on the pavement. Max wt 380....and had to donate it when I needed to drive in winter.
Honda has certainly dropped the ball as of late-remember the oil dilution problem a few years ago? There is no reason for that problem & the recent callbacks. That showcases the fact that Honda's reputation is built on past glories.
My 2023 civic’s steering wheel feels “sticky” when you turn it the opposite way. It feels sticky then it gives. I’ve read other owners have reported this problem and they are saying Honda is currently investigating it. I’m hoping they will issue a recall for this.
I bought a crv in 2018, and had a huge oil dilution issue.
Three year old honda crv just out of warranty $ 8500 repair job from honda in CA
😂
Could you give us step by step if you woke up one morning and found a check engine light diagnosis for a notorious code like P0420/30
if hondas go bad there is no hope for humanity when it comes to reliable cars
There is.. Mazda is the answer 😅
@@ontarioman6301 But they're UGLY!
@@ontarioman6301 Actually, no...
My uncle had a 2017 CX-5. Both the transmission and the rear end failed at 70K miles despite regular maintenance.
@scottykilmer I have a 2019 Honda Passport. I wonder if I have a recall even though you mentioned 2021-2023 Passport.
The future sucks, but I'm doing just fine right now cruising down the road in my 03 grand marquis
Now you are going to have to start showing pictures of a Honda dealership when referring to a junkyard, Scotty!🤣
My 94 ranger turns 30 next year. She is going to reach 60 years and 1 million miles then we’ll get started.
Im sticking with my 2016 Toyota Corolla and my 2016 Toyota Avalon. Both are paid for, and they have the old 2zrfe and 2grfe respectively. Rock solid reliability.
He was promoting the 2022 Honda CRV just recently!
