I’ve had the Leica M11p for almost 3 months and in this video i thought Id share how have the camera setup and what settings I’ve changed and landed on using the most.

Very similar settings here. Auto ISO capped at 6400, rear screen turned off and highlight weighted metering. I’m usually in aperture priority though and I use AWB because I shoot raw and usually for a final b&w output anyway. I use 60MP simply because I’m an obsessive cropper! I shoot DNG+JPEG and sometimes just use the (b&w) JPEG + it’s pretty good. I use a Harry Benz strap because I wear the camera cross body and it has just the right level of friction to allow me to raise it quickly to my eye. I use continuous low drive mode but almost always just take one pic at a time - having continuous low just means I can keep the shutter release down to get two or three shots in a row if I think I need it to get the best picture.

Very timely video! I actually just bought a used M11 from the leica store, it's coming tomorrow. Good to get a good handle on the settings before I actually pick it up. Leica can pretty much thank you for influencing me by the way ahhahah

Great video - thank you. I can’t work out how to get the customise wheel to change the iso? The only options I have are No function/exp compensation/focus aid? What am I doing wrong please?
I go with black and white high contrast on the Q2 for same reasons. highlight priority. Aperture priority mostly. Shoot Jpg and DNG. Learning to be confident with zone focusing. Only ever use back screen to review photos and change menu. So, while q3 megapixels is enticing, the flip screen would only be a minor thing for me.
Had a bunch of sd card problems with one of my M11‘s, especially with angelbird sd cards. After Leica replaced my m11 and I switched to another sd card, I only had one sd card error
Interesting! That bloody Magenta thing is annoying, had no idea it’s from AWB, will experiment setting it this weekend. Also good tip on the Manual ISO dial, will give that a go too.
B&W with the red outline thing might be interesting but I just use the viewfinder or just shoot in zone focusing mode.
I’ve not had that SD card issue but I’ve had the camera lock up twice. Had to take the battery out and put it back in solve it. And I’m not shooting burst or anything. Only minor.
The back screen is the completely opposite problem to me, Everything looks in focus! Then when I check later, sometimes they aren’t 😂.
One other thing for me, coming from Fuji, is that I often use exposure comp and it’s a bit annoying that it’s not on a dial like my X100F has it. Only a minor annoyance again tho. Magenta is my main one. Oh and the AWB is a bit bonkers, on the same spot it can take different readings between shots. Only camera I’ve had that does that.
I have thought the strap was a tad too long so might look into a shorter one but not going to red. No red spot, no red strap. Unless Arsenal in the league.

I definitely have the same issue as you when reviewing the shots on my M11. When zooming in on focus point, it looks like I missed focus, but on my Mac, everything is fine. Hope they’re able to fix it at some point… thanks for the video

Same here, on m11 and m11p
on the M10-R the problem you describe is due to the images needing to load properly. Sometimes it can take a long time, and I imagine even longer on the M11 since the files are bigger. Is it also the case if you write to the internal memory? I imagine the internal memory is faster than the sd card
I get the same issue with the preview on my M10 actually. Same goes for the Leica app previews. I'm never sure till I pull them into lightroom
I have the same issues you have with the magenta and the screen quality issue. I shoot with a 35mm summilux and and when I check the pics they seem out of focus. My biggest issue is motion blur with the 60mp sensor and no ibis. Something I struggle with all the time but just part of the experience
I recently got a M11 brand new and I have the same feeling about the back screen on the camera. I doubt it’s my problem before watching your video, but fortunately it Leica’s problem 🙃
funny how since I made this video - I've just got used to the back screen. I don't think about it anymore. Enjoy the m11!
Does your camera keep the minimum shutter speed as set in the auto ISO settings? Mine seems to always go above by 1/3 stop. i.e. if I set to 1/250 the photos will be taken at 1/320.

Have you had a problem with the focus peaking suddenly turning off? Mine will stop suddenly about half way through my day. And yes, I have noticed the preview seems to be a bit out of focus a bit.
It may be helpful to know what brand of card you had the error with. Back in my Fujifilm days I had my first and only card failure and was saved by the 2nd slot. The card was Lexar so I’ve been wary of using that brand ever since and have stuck with Sandisk. I realise it may have been nothing to do with the card. Having recently switched to a Q3, I feel more vulnerable with the single slot along with what happened to you.
A very new Lexar - might have to try Sandisk if it happens again.
The missed focus / slightly blurry shot being presented on the screen is not just for the M11. My M10 does the same thing! It's really frustrating.

Hey, yes occasionally I've had this issue.
If I could afford to spend 8k on a Leica I would be so miffed to experience the doubts and glitches you describe. The unsharp screen surely is a fault and rather alarming.
Did I mention there was no issue with the images?
Sounds like you should spend even more on Hasselblad or Phase one because these things happen on those too.
I want one so bad...
Update your description to reflect the changes in your setup!
RE: SD Cards - the internal storage was implimented as a solve for the lack of multiple SD card slots as they would take up too much space. If you have a failure it’s more likely than not to be the card itself. They do have a life cycle and should be replaced every year or so like a wearable part.
Based on your settings, the Leica M10-P with the Summicron 35mm will be the best setup for you. You don't shoot normally lower than 5.6 as you said and you do not use the 60mp but instead 36mp. I upgraded my M10 to the M11 because of my work as a Architectural Photographer and I use the Summilux 21mm, 50mm & 75mm because of the night shots that I have to take, but apart from that there is not need for a M11 when doing street photography, for that I use the Leica Q3, is the best camera if you mainly shoot 28mm & 35mm.
Interesting! Why do you think the Q3 is better than the M10 for street photography?
A lot of things, the first is Weather Sealing, 60mp vs 24mp is ideal if you need to crop, you have 28mm and 35mm with excellent resolution without changing lenses, you have manual and autofocus depending of the shot that you want to take it helps a lot, it is less heavier than the m10 with any summilux lens, it tends to have less issue in the long run, rangefinder cameras might need to be re-aligned, the focus coupling can gives you some issues, etc, there are a lot of benefits of using the Q system over the M system for street photography, rangefinder cameras are really awesome to use but for street photography I prefer the Q3 but I still use my M cameras for street photography but for work I always use the M and SL cameras@@nikolasdeco1321
@@AlejandroVisualswhen comparing the in camera cropping features of the Q3 to actually using a 35mm lens on your M camera body, do you get the same sort of results as I’m concerned 28mm as a fixed lens might be too wide for everyday street photography??
@@elliotresnick5433 the Q3 is about 26mm when cropping i'm not sure how wide it is and I use a lot my 35 summilux, so if I haven't noticed anything it means at least to me that it is pretty close to 35mm

Trying to help here without diving into it with my camera: don’t you just hold down that function wheel and choose to have it control ISO? Then on the ISO physical dial you set it to M. That way your custom dial that you just changed then can control the ISO by clicking/dialing and looking at the screen to select what you want in the moment. Right?

You have to push the custom-wheel down whilst turning it.
