Things you get from an MBA:
    1. Branding of the Institute
    2. Network and Peer Groups
    3. Jump in the Career- Domain Upgrade/Change
    Should Not Do For:
    1. Business Knowledge
    2. Salary Jump
    3. Entrepreneurs should not go for an MBA - Real life values and skills matter more!
    4. Consider ROI for freshers/mid level experience from all angles.
If you have 4+ years of experience, Executive MBA from IIM/ISB or Foreign Universities.

    Hi Soumi,
I'm at the crossroads as far as my career choices are concerned, so please read through and give me your 2 cents because this could very well shape my life :). I'm a Cs grad and the initial idea was to go for Ms in Germany as the European market seems to be booming right now and would've been a good change but the other viable option is a Mba in India and my family wants me to stay here so the eternal dillema kicks in. I don't have an issue pursuing Mba, and as far as interests are concerned I wouldn't mind either Mba or Ms(for now). What complicates my Mba aspirations if I decide to pursue it though is my past academics. A mere 55.8% in 12th Boards and 5 years to complete my Btech owing to past mistakes make me feel like the Cat route isn't for folks like me. Being a General Male IT Engineer with this kind of past, how much will it haunt me down the Mba route if I decide to pursue it? I know nothing is impossible but I would hate for this to be a hurdle moving forward. Being someone with Mba experience pls tell me should I go for Masters or Mba, and your reasoning behind it. Thankyou :)

    • @InsiderGyaan
      @InsiderGyaan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Ur decision is very personal, so cant make the ms vs mba decision for you. But with your acads, I would say if u go for MBA get a few years of workex first. During that time gather enough other proof of excellence and leadership so that will increase ur chances of a top school.

Excellent video, thanks! I am a 2005 MBA from a tier 2/3 institute, and have 16 years total workex. I work as a marketing manager in a Fortune 500 IT services company, but i feel I haven’t really scaled up as much as I should have in these 15 years (though I must add that I have done varied roles within and outside of marketing ). So my question is, does it make sense to do an exec mba from IIMs or ISB? I had offers from SPJain Global and NMIMS which I rejected as I wasn’t too sure. Thank you much! :-)

Thanks Insider Gyaan for creating this video.
I am wondering If I can get your thoughts on this:
    - I have been working for over 10 years and have been feeling stuck in my career.
    - During coffee chats, I was suggested to consider MBA or MS Computer Science (I don't have an undergrad in CS but saw there are some bridging programs out there for those who don't).
Wondering what do you think about MBA vs MS Computer Science?
    - I think MS if usually for those who usually have around 2 years of work experience but may not be appropriate for those with more work experience.
    - I think with MS CS one tends to become a software developer writing code. Pays well but just writing code.
    - With MBA people usually tend to go into 3 buckets (consulting, IB/financial services & tech). My perception is that the work life balance of consulting/financial services isn't great and also getting there in mid 30s is tough but tech (product management seems to be the most popular role in tech post MBA, though the current tech economy isn't great with layoffs) seems more open with better work life balance.
Also, regarding MBA I hear a lot of buzz that some say it's worth it and some say it's not. There's this site/book the personal MBA that refutes that value of MBA: personalmba.com/. So don't what what to believe. Some quote this quote from the movie Goodwill hunting regarding MBA: "You wasted $150,000 on an education (MBA) you coulda got for $1.50 in late fees at the public library.”

    • @InsiderGyaan
