As an IIM alum, I can tell that while the job market fluctuates, the RoI from a good MBA cant be judged by 1st years CTC, its a lot more benefits that you reap in the long term and not just immediately monetary
I agree what you said, and certainly an MBA makes sense only for people with some prior experience irrespective of his/her field. I know some of my colleagues who did their MBA (even the IIM) ones right after their UG degree ,got a job and than became clueless once the work pressure and unfamiliarity hit hard. Also given the fact recently the number of amateur jobs have gone down, eg. Even entry level SDE positions now require 3+ yrs of exp for some reason.

Should i give cat 24 (without work ex and no internships) or take another gap yr for CAT25 (alongwith some internships)? pls guide me
@@James-m4r8b Maybe yes. But most importantly try to find a strong reason so as to why you want to do an MBA and also the specialization that you would like to target. Many people join IIMs for the sake of placements but later on are fired due to wrong expectations or low performance due to immense work pressure (You can see all of them turned as fulltime youtubers ). So choose a background to specialize in and become the best in that, that way you would be able to justify the high package paid by the company and won't feel insecure.
@@darshantawte7435 how do i know which specialization i want to do without actually experiencing that?? my mba reason is i want to know me i.e "what i want to do" as you know mba from iim is a generalised degree means in 1st yr you are exposed to all domain i.e finance/marketing/hr/consulting etc so i will be able to find which domain is best for me as you see i am doing CA (finance domain) and after experiencing i know i didn't find myself perfect fit for finance domain as i didn't like finance domain at all. Also another reason is that i feel that i want to do a successful business in near future IS THIS A VALID AND STRONG REASON FOR DOING MBA??? Also can you suggest me whether should i directly appear for cat24 or cat24 as a fresher or should i do job and get work experience of like 1-2 yrs then do mba after that???? i m confused 😕

1. Top B-schools struggling to place their students: True, the job market is tough right now, but the brand value of IIMs pays off in the long run. Even during COVID, the top IIMs didn't face significant difficulties and are still thriving. Despite lockdowns, SP Jain, IIM l , FMS and many other top B-schools have released placement reports for the current batch, and while there may be a slight decrease in placements, it's still decent enough to kickstart careers, with opportunities for growth in the future. Also, ISB is the only school charging over 40L in fees, and he only mentions this college as a reference. Mind you, the average fees of any IIM or B-school is around 25L, with an average package of 30L+, so you're still getting better ROI. Plus, you pay fees for 2 years and get a salary for as long as you work, not just for one year, and you also get incremental increases. Furthermore, if you're continuously mentioning the top few colleges of ISB, then mention FMS, which charges only 2L in fees with a 30L+ package. Show both sides of the coin, buddy. This is blatant manipulation.

Great insight, To really opt for an MBA degree if are moving from an individual contributor to managerial or leadership roles , Present Market has lot of uncertainties. saving for a rainy day is top priority.
Completely agree with the point of having more than 50% freshers in the classroom. It adds no value in learning if your peers have never been in the corporate or have worked by themselves before joining a master's degree.
I am from one of the old IIMs. And i do not recommend people to go for an MBA unless its very low cost-high reward one like FMS, JBIMs or you belong to a rich family so student loan wont be a concern
Pavan, your diligent research and insightful contributions are truly invaluable. The depth of your analysis and the clarity of your findings have the potential to steer countless students away from potential missteps in their academic journey. Your willingness to share such valuable information is not only admirable but also greatly appreciated. Thank you for your significant impact in guiding others towards informed decisions.
Hi Pavan, I cannot completely agree with one of your points that if the placment situation in Tier I B schools is grave now, the situation in Tier 2 and Tier 3 will be even worse. I would say the supply demand chemistry of Tier 1 colleges are fairly different from that of Tier 2, Tier 3 colleges. The profiles that the company come for in Tier 2 and Tier 3 colleges are different. A few examples can be IT Business Analyst, Sales profile in BFSI or Operations job in BFSI. Basically a role far away from the word "strategy", "M & A" bluh bluh. Such roles cost less and hence company will be able to offer. Also such roles are available due to organic businss growth of the companies even if there is no major expansion happening in the companies. But once kick started with such role and profile, the individual from Tier 2 and Tier 3 college has all possibilities and resources available in the universe to help him throttle through professional career. In a era of information, an individual from Tier 2 and Tier 3 college can avail all kind of certifications, short term courses to enrich and equip himself along with his ongoing job role. Career is a long journey and the storm of Tier 2 and Tier 3 event in a candidate's life may not work act as an eclipse all throughout his life. Obviously hard work and availing the right opportunties can wipe out the eclipse of having a degree from Tier 2 or Tier 3. I have many many examples is what I can say. I am just sharing my experience as one the perspectives. But many thanks for our informative video.
yes it is true that the pl,acements are going down due to slow down, but keeping in mind the rate of growth of India, when US comes to previous situation (which is probably within 5 yrs), the need of MBA would increase drastically.
To summarize 1. Placement Issue 2. Job type and satisfaction 3. Low work experience 4. Less practical learning skills. And make more networks with your classmates in your college. Basically experience nahi ho aur skill nahi ho toh mat karo MBA even top colleges arent able to do the right placement to students just on the basis of their marks.
I have completed by B tech from India and MBA from Philippines. By virtue of my journey I can say that what ultimately matters in the long run is the "skills" that you develop. Hence think about how MBA would help you gain those skills and be where you want to be in life. Don't just blindly get into an MBA degree (especially for highly sucessfull engineers).
@@penumarthikasi2387 it is highly contexual and depends on which path that you take after MBA. If you are building a job/ career you need the hard and soft skills in that area (e.g. Analytical skills, Market and competition analysis, Customer interviews and insights). Completely one sided opinion for the following reasons: 1) Not considering colleges like FMS and IITS. Focus is only on ISB and PGPX (Not even core MBA program of IIMA) 2) Scaring students in the name of elections. What if it is favourable, equally beneficial right? 3) Future prediction for 2025: What if any other pandemic or natural disaster comes or any or anything else happens. Maybe you are not even alive in the next year lol. You should never lose an opportunity on the basis of predictions that makes no sense. 4) Bad ROI for MBA then let’s talk about medical and engineering these days. IITD kids are settling for 10 LPA so students should stop studying and doing their undergrad as well? Also, ROI is not an year thing. 5) And the market was really down last year. So maybe you should make a video on why people who did MBA last year will fail in getting good career.
I agree with you on having holistic/long term view of doing MBA rather than fluctuating market conditions. Would just like to correct on one point: only the one-year programs from ISB, IIMs are considered MBA by global standards. All rankings you see for FT, QS, Economist are given for the 1-year program. The two year program are graded as MIMs. The rationale behind is obvious today- an MBA without good experience on your resume is only theoretical and not a great learning experience.
If someone plans to take MBA why not take it now? The content of the course expense same in future. If you say don't take MBA ever it has some meaning. what to do if you are 3 years experience already..
being a 2024 grad job market kharab job nahi lag rahi h, ms wale dost bol rahe unhe bhi job nahi mil rahi, mba nahi kar sakte right now cause iim can't place there students, toh kare toh kare kya freshers
Doing an MBA without any work ex is seriously the worst thing that Indian b schools can offer to ANY incoming student. The learning would be uni directional with next to zero input from the students.
@@neelbhalani5559 Based on what I have experienced, a person should have at least 2/3 years of hard core hands on technical experience + min of 2 years of team management experience before opting for MBA That way he/she gets maximum out of the course in terms of awareness about what actually works in the real world vs just bookish knowledge that most no experience MBA's provide.

@@neelbhalani5559 Working in mech or any industry for that matter will give you a basic hands on experience that is invaluable in the long run. Make sure that along with your core tech skills(mech) you also develop team management skills(that will happen when you have at least 3+ years of tech experience) With that background i.e tech + team management skills, doing an MBA will greatly help you to absorb what the course is trying to teach you. Moving to IT after your MBA (with your mech background) - the best option is to take up a consulting role initially and then ease yourself into IT. An IT guy with an MBA will at least have more exposure to IT as compared to a guy with a mech background but the pivot that you are talking about is absolutely possible.
I have about 6 years of work experience and am planning to pursue an MBA for the 2024-26 batch. I have offers from 2 B schools as of now. Would it be a wise option to pursue MBA at this stage?

Hi Pavan, I wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed your video. It was great, especially in comparison to what many others are saying about pursuing an MBA in the current job market. However, I noticed that there is a key issue that needs to be addressed in your argument. You seem to be confusing PGDM courses with PGPX/ISB courses. In PGPX courses, there is no issue with work experience. However, in one-year courses, the problem of career pivoting still remains, which is why people who want to pivot into different domains usually look for options outside of India. Another point I want to highlight is that while it is true that the job market is not in great shape right now, and placements are down compared to last year, what options do freshers (from lower tier colleges) and those with 1-2 years of work experience have in such a market? If they have a good job option in hand, then they should definitely continue with their job. However, if they don't have such options, doing a PGDM makes sense. You only do your MBA once, so making an informed choice is key. However, one shouldn't disregard it just on the basis of the current job market. Look at it from the current graduating batch's perspective, they entered into an MBA during a stellar market, yet they are facing trouble right now. So, everyone should do their own due diligence before making such a decision. It is indeed true that the current job market is in a poor condition, and it is also true that top colleges are still offering a 30 LPA average package. The choice is yours to make.
Even in PGPX, it is the case. People are not getting the right opportunities they were receiving in 2022. I talked to people doing their PGPX as well!!!
@@Pavansathiraju Yeah, I'm with you on that. PGPX folks don't really need to do an MBA at the moment since they have the opportunity to keep working in comparatively better roles. But for PGDM students, it's a bit more complicated because the other choices aren't all that great either.
@PavanSathiraju If I take job experience in a mechanical field and then if I pursue MBA, will I get a chance to work in IT companies? Or due to my past work experience I'll be mostly placed in some past work ex related companies. Also, a person who has work experience from IT has advantage to work in IT company after a MBA?
But sir job uncertainty is there all over the world right now. Not everyone can afford an MBA from abroad. In that scenario, all those who are doing IPM mat coaching for 5 years BBA MBA integrated programs offered by IIM indore, Ranchi, Rohtak, IIM bodhgaya, lucknow and all, what should they do now ? Continue doing IPM mat to pursue BBA MBA from the above mentioned institutions? They also costs you 40 plus lacs. Pls advice. It may help us . Thank you
Okay .. My counter argument is , although the immediate situation is bad.. after couple of years you can easily reach to high end of 6 figures to even 7 figures if you have an MBA esp from schools like ISB & IIM ABC. You'll get access to opportunities which is not available to just about anyone. So in the long run your ROI is going to be good.
Sir, can we interpret it as Tier 1 colleges are getting less offers then maybe Tier 2 & Tier 3 are getting more offers as the higher salaries are demanded by Tier 1 colleges ?
After cing this video and comments i was confused iam 2023 passed out batch currently iam preparing for cmat i wasted 1yr to do mba..... Iam still confused should i have to do mba or not
Best do marketing job after mba. Later develop relations with customers. Afterwards start own business and sell products needed by same customers to them and enjoy life for rest of life expanding business. Get one driver. Car. Travel for few years like hell for your own business and game set. More you travel more fast you collect funds back and rotate and grow MBA degree to learn tricks , by 30 start own business. Finish mba by 26. 4 years work for company in sales.
It's about adding value. I have around 5.5 yoe and work at a US based software company, make about 50 per annum, and I feel Software Engineers directly add value to the product. On the other hand, a lot of PMs and PGMs in my team can't even write the stories properly because of lack of in depth understanding of the product. If a few PMs and PGMs are let go, it won't have much impact. However, if ANY software developer leaves our team, it would seriously affect the project
Sir, how can i become a ceo or coo of a multinational company, by which stream or course should i choose, as a career conultant can you give me some right advise💯♥️
So what's the solution? What should a fresher do? You mentioned the job crisis and good opportunities after masters, but what about those who graduated from tier 2-3 colleges? This video reeks of manipulation. LET ME GIVE YOU A SUGGESTION The whole world is facing recession, making it the perfect time to pursue your masters. These 2 years, you don't have to settle for low pay or undesirable jobs; it's the ideal time to further your education and be prepared for the market and placements when you join in 2026, when the situation improves. And hey, buddy, we don't pursue MBA just for a fat paycheck; it's way more than that. So stop deceiving people. Jai Hind.
all points are very trivial, its still worth it to do MBA considering your college is well known and reputed! You go to any other country and do MBA, you'll face the same issue, yes, regarding the expereince req I can agree but it doesnt matter in the long run!
In India, very few people get jobs after A commerce degree. Even Bulge bracket banks that hire from good colleges, mostly offer ops roles. While you can certainly excel in a capacity in those roles, exposure might be limited. Do you think that will have detrimental effect on the B- school applications for international school, even if the work ex is in, lets say Goldman? How can we make up for it. A lot of people are alos from good front end PE VC roles
What are your views on FMS Delhi? Let's say if one can afford even top IIMs too but has to decide between both. Would FMS still make sense for him/her?
Great Research! Work ex is indeed an overlooked aspect when it comes to Indian b schools and it will definitely have an impact during recruitment(for someone who's trying to make a pivot) especially during the downtimes which is clearly highlighted in the video. One more important point mentioned is the increase in class size. One may look at this as a positive aspect thinking that now we have a lot of people to network with. That is true to an extent, but recruiters can't give a job to everyone
But sir, what if one is an older candidate (>31 years) and have everything riding on mba and its subsequent placement? Would you suggest the same? What if market doesn't improve even after 1 yr / after 2 yrs?
Pavan, I am 23y old. I wanna get a MBA degree from IIM so that it can work as a safety net for me, as i wanna start my own startup moving ahead. Current I am working as a Software Engineer, I fear that if I delay it by another year then I am getting old to start a company.
you want to start your own startup but don't know how MBA is going to help you ? For StartUp, one needs an idea that can click, not a certificate paper.
Agree with you but what i am seeing in the market is fresher from good b school in India earns more than 3,4 year experienced professional who has more skills and have more impact on project. I personally observed in my team that IIM guy who makes same ppt and doing same work gets paid 2X more than my other team mate but in actual that experienced team mate (not from IIM) gets lot of appreciation for his good work and more project value addition. Brand Matters !!!

👏This is the most pragmatic video I've seen in contrast to the popular advice nowadays **When the market is down, invest in your higher education.** 👉Someday make a video on how you research any subject so well and explain it flawlessly! Sir, btw, you also know Indian students abroad are facing a lot of challenges from hate crime murders to tough job prospects, Why don't you make a reaction video to Soch by Mohak Mangal's well-researched video on Indian Students moving abroad video?
Dude. 80% of seats in IIMs are reserved so how can you say they are finding it difficult to place the batch it's because of the tough job market. It's all because of reservations and undeserving people flooding the IIMs. Also, I don't think that IIMs value work experience as eventually selection is decided based on your GD and speaking skills, not your knowledge or intelligence.
I recommend anyone who's serious about mba and planning to go to top b-schools. Dont watch it, it will make u confuse and will bring all the negativity in ur preparation. People need to understand, Education and employability is two different things. We grow constantly in life after MBA, eventually end up doing somthing good in life. I prefer to skip this shit, cus i know it will f**k up my head.
1) MBA is a business degree. If you can't calculate your ROI & just say "We will do something good in life anyways", you need to reconsider your choices. 2) Understanding multiple perspectives and taking an informed decision is what you will learn in MBA. If you ignore perspectives - not sure what you will learn from your classmates!!

This is such a negative video. Firstly, students all over the world and in almost every field are struggling to get jobs because of the market conditions in US. Then why are you only targeting MBA? People who have gone abroad for masters are also struggling to get jobs. Why don’t you talk about ROI in that case? At least we have this concept of campus placements in India, which ensure at least majority of the folks are not graduating jobless. Secondly, you have compared average salaries of this year with previous years. Any sane person would look at the median numbers and put their argument forward, unlike you, lol. Maybe the average salaries have come down because, highest salary offered has come down, which is quite NORMAL in today’s time given the situation we have.

Should i give cat 24 (without work ex and no internships) or take another gap yr for CAT25 (alongwith some internships)?

@@James-m4r8b Maybe yes. But most importantly try to find a strong reason so as to why you want to do an MBA and also the specialization that you would like to target. Many people join IIMs for the sake of placements but later on are fired due to wrong expectations or low performance due to immense work pressure (You can see all of them turned as fulltime youtubers ). So choose a background to specialize in and become the best in that, that way you would be able to justify the high package paid by the company and won't feel insecure.
@@darshantawte7435 how do i know which specialization i want to do without actually experiencing that??
my mba reason is i want to know me i.e "what i want to do" as you know mba from iim is a generalised degree means in 1st yr you are exposed to all domain i.e finance/marketing/hr/consulting etc
so i will be able to find which domain is best for me
as you see i am doing CA (finance domain) and after experiencing i know i didn't find myself perfect fit for finance domain as i didn't like finance domain at all.
Also another reason is that i feel that i want to do a successful business in near future
IS THIS A VALID AND STRONG REASON FOR DOING MBA???
Also can you suggest me whether should i directly appear for cat24 or cat24 as a fresher or should i do job and get work experience of like 1-2 yrs then do mba after that???? i m confused 😕
What kind of prior experience is required?? I mean in which role?? Maybe a "Business Analyst" or a SDE related role at IT firms???

Such pragmatic insights-it’s really going to be helpful for so many youngsters (out there).

yes it is true that the pl,acements are going down due to slow down, but keeping in mind the rate of growth of India, when US comes to previous situation (which is probably within 5 yrs), the need of MBA would increase drastically.

MBA is not for every professional that needs to be stopped first ,B/C grades school should close

Thank you for your Opinion. Meanwhile you are exposing the reality of an MBA which no one is talking about.
You are a true person.
To summarize
1. Placement Issue
2. Job type and satisfaction
3. Low work experience
4. Less practical learning skills.
And make more networks with your classmates in your college.

Completely one sided opinion for the following reasons:
1) Not considering colleges like FMS and IITS. Focus is only on ISB and PGPX (Not even core MBA program of IIMA)
2) Scaring students in the name of elections.

Minimum how many years of experience we should get?
@@neelbhalani5559 Based on what I have experienced, a person should have at least 2/3 years of hard core hands on technical experience + min of 2 years of team management experience before opting for MBA

@@neelbhalani5559 Working in mech or any industry for that matter will give you a basic hands on experience that is invaluable in the long run.
Make sure that along with your core tech skills(mech) you also develop team management skills(that will happen when you have at least 3+ years of tech experience)
With that background i.e tech + team management skills, doing an MBA will greatly help you to absorb what the course is trying to teach you.
Moving to IT after your MBA (with your mech background) - the best option is to take up a consulting role initially and then ease yourself into IT.
An IT guy with an MBA will at least have more exposure to IT as compared to a guy with a mech background but the pivot that you are talking about is absolutely possible.

This video is very insightful sir, just the heading instead of a Trap, Mba with work experience, could have been better.
It was insightful... thanks... even the short term management courses offered by IIMs are taking the shares of job market for professional as they're already in field
So basically you can survive with a graduation certificate

It's about adding value. I have around 5.5 yoe and work at a US based software company, make about 50 per annum, and I feel Software Engineers directly add value to the product. On the other hand, a lot of PMs and PGMs in my team can't even write the stories properly because of lack of in depth understanding of the product. The whole world is facing recession, making it the perfect time to pursue your masters.

The PGP for Experienced professionals counters points 3 & 4.

Agree with you but what i am seeing in the market is fresher from good b school in India earns more than 3,4 year experienced professional who has more skills and have more impact on project. It's all because of reservations and undeserving people flooding the IIMs.

Yaar why don't these b-schools make work-ex compulsory and end for once and all this debate of fresher vs work ex .
Sir do some QC of the videos, the reference doc at 1:12 is missing. Didn't the editor checked it😅 before distribution. Btw love your videos ❤
I did check & the editor also checked! sometimes mistakes do happen:) thanks for the catch and feedback. Will be more careful
@@Pavansathiraju hope you didn't mind the cmnt❤️ you are way experience and knowledgeable than me. 🙇🏻
I understood the Overarching point you are making and it's of immense value for MBA aspirants like myself.
Thank you!
I think its not the responsibility of the college to place the students. Its the place you get knowledge and great connections. This is what is been followed around the world
outside India.
I also believe that before joining for an MBA , its better to gain experience for better evaluation
Freshers don't get jobs because they are freshers then where they will go ??? After 2 years the market will be improved
What about the job postings asking bschool degree from premier institutions?
But we'll be graduating almost after 2 ti 2.5 yrs. POV: someone who is PLANNING to do an MBA currently. what about the market condition at that time.
This is a disguised promotion video of a Foreign MBA program, by tapping in the fame of IIMs and the current market conditions. Please have an in-depth look at the linkedin profile of the author/speaker. Hope my comment wouldn't be deleted.
If you think about it that way.. Sure:)
I would rather keep this comment so that people can have a laugh at it:)
@@Pavansathiraju Sure. The value of anything depends on one's perception and is a matter of time. Please think of yourself as an ambassador of an Indian entity and give a thought about it. Laughing or not is a matter of one's choice.
I would graduate in 2027 in btech, should i go for MBA after that!?
depends upon what you want to do in life. Don't fell for sheep herd crowd.
Damn bro i literally quit my shitty job for Cat 2024 😂 now you are posting this !!!
I can feel you bro same here😂
Don't listen to him, keep preparing, I'm also preparing for SNAP 😅
Hi Pavan, Can you please share your insights on accelerated general program management from IIMs ?
What is your objective for doing that program? Is it placement? Is it just getting a brand tag? Or something else?
Once you decide on the objective. Talk to some current students or recent grads and see if you can fullfil that objective!
@@Pavansathiraju objective is to have a jump in my current role and also the brand
See if you can find anybody doing the same thing BY leveraging their MBA degree (check linkedIn).@@Maitrivlogs24
What ever the outcome i would like to pursue MBA from the top B school.
sir, ill be passing 12th in 2025. being a commerce student, what else should i aim for? what are your views on ipm program offered by iim indore, rohtak etc.
mba is meant for commerce students
Yes this indeed I too analyzed that a day will come when there would be less or limited scope of Bschool graduates. For knowing reasons please connect with me.
This was analyzed 5years ago with my research
how to connect?

Real estate is unaffordable in India. Even if u get a good job. Can't get a decent flat below 2.5 crore in any top tier 1 city. Life has become hell.
I can help you with this.
I know a real estate broker who offers you Flats and Villas with less than half the amount you have quoted, that too in Hyderabad
I'm a fresher bcom graduate preparing for management entrance exams, if not mba how can I secure a good job?
Go for PO exams.😢

Should I do mba in Australia?
I am searching about it and one of my far relative is doing mba in tasmania.
Australia education system is big scam, don't come here they will charge you 80 lacs to give you no job at the end of mba course. I have spoken to so many students, they are depressed.....
Is it the same trend in global business schools like INSEAD as well? Can you pls share feedback on their placement performance? I was planning to apply second MBA this year.
Consider that Indian MBA is not recognised anywhere else in the world, plus the world values experience and not an MBA degree(from India). So often Indian Engineers work all over the world an earns 5 to 10 times the salary than an MBA grad earns in India.
Thank youu sir!!! Coz it will Veryyy helpfull...!!ur single research have the weight...!!!🪄
I was thnkng to strt mba ..after ma degree but ...now i knw it wont worth it
Hello my package is 6 lakh as quality I have done pgdm from lexicon mile.

One of the most common title goes viral nowadays are these.... they don't know every contextual relevance of their topic in academic growth of the mass.. completely misguiding and demotivating these types of videos.
They simple deny the existing academic ladder and don't give any practical solution to apply.... these videos should be reported if creator don't spend penny to think consciously.
