Great tips, after the draining test, I have seen people just changing it without testing

My 90 GMC Sierra runs fine until I'm in heavy traffic with the AC on. Changed many parts already except radiator. I did take my infrared thermometer and I did see a difference in the radiator temp. SO, I'll be changing it out tomorrow. Thanks for posting sir..

      Had the same issue.
Had the engine overheating light pop up when in heavy city traffic first then it popped on as well on "empty" roads.
2 days later I changed the radiator.
When playing around with the old radiator could see water going in at the top but only trickling out at the bottom.

This was really helpful. I JUST bought 05 civic a week ago...... Theres no cap on the coolant reservoir (ive ordered one) .... And the car overheated, steam rolling out. Checked coolant level, it was OUT. i added coolant.....and it hasnt fully overheated, but temp guage creeps up very high when im going 40 or less.....and the big thing is a bunch of gunky coolant is coming out of the coolant reservoir (remember it has no cap......theres a radiator cap, just no reservoir cap) and its all over tha place underhood. The oil dipstick looks perfectly fine ..... Do you think this sounds like clogged radiator? Not al blown head gasket right?? Sorry......single mom here, just trying to make this car last.

I would get the radiator replaced. But if the coolant is coming out of the reservoir that means that it is flowing, which means that it should not be clogged, according to this video. You did state that the temperature gauge was creeping up. This would indicate that the engine is not being cooled. How about the water level in the car? Water is also needed to cool the car down as well.

Hi, is water still circulation if thermostat fault?

Thing is, I went to the mechanic and they stated that my radiator needed to be replaced; however, my car shows no sign of overheating. I do have the heating element problem. There is also coolant leakage. I am thinking of taking it to a mechanic today to get it fixed. It is going to be costly!

The very last tip you gave -- warming up engine while leaving radiator cap opened, I noticed the coolant started to slowly move upwards and leak out only within under 1 min of starting engine.
Would this be a good indication of a clogged radiator?
Coolant color & consistency is clean & clear, no rust build up anywhere. No leaking problems.
But I had a overheating issue & loss of power to engine during acceleration, which caused overheating w/ white smoke on passenger side of engine.
Been trying to diagnose the problem before I buy parts or go to a mechanic.
First thing I'll do is change out the dirty air filter I had on this 03 Civic.
Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks for the vid.

If not clogged warm coolant will flow back from the (lower) radiator return pipe.
One other symptom is fan not starting because the extreme heated coolant from the engine that passes the thermostat won't properly flow through the radiator so hot coolant won't reach the radiator fan switch?

I've replaced my water pump, thermostat, burped it, new radiator cap... Still overheats, but not like when you said... one the thermostat opens up the temp gets all the way hot in a few minutes... especially when accelerating or going up a hill... could this be the radiator still? Thank you.

Have an 03 f150 and it will get hot in winter then go back to normal immediately, blows cold till it goes back to normal then blows hot, changed thermostat, waterpump, overflow cap and still does it. Any ideas? Also on warmer days it won't go hot at all just goes to normal.

    • @Top5AutoRepairs
      @Top5AutoRepairs  ปีที่แล้ว +2

There could air in the cooling system, coolant level probably low, heater core probably clogged and I guess you already mentioned thermostat replacement. Stuck open thermostat can also cause all those issues.

What does it means if when open drhe rad cap when cold and the coolant would not move at all, and after reaching around 180 degree at the upper radiator hose the coolant starts to spill dramatically thru the rad upper hole? It does spill the coolant like 2 feet high. Im troubleshooting a temp needle going from half to 3/4 on the gauges when in traffic or the ac is on, note that temp is steady at half on the gauge on highway speeds, thanks for the video, it gave some odeas to try,,, cheers
