What can you do when you’re not where you want to be in your fluency?
As we go into a new year, you might be looking back at last year and feeling like you didn’t accomplish what you wanted to in English. No doubt, this is a discouraging feeling!
But have you ever stopped to ask yourself what exactly is holding you back from achieving your goals and being where you want to be? Or, maybe you have improved this year but you haven’t realized how much progress you’ve made!
No matter where you’re at, today, I’ll walk you through four different stages that could be causing this gap between where you are in your English, and where you want to be.
Here are the four stages I discuss in today’s video:
1. Have you set high expectations that are unachievable?
2. Have you shown up for your English and created a practice habit?
3. Have you practiced, but not improved because you fell into the illusion of learning?
4. Have you improved, but you can’t see it?
Which of the stages do you identify the most with? Let me know in the comments!

I came to the conclusion that fluency is all about knowledge. that's the same reason why you can talk about ur favourite sport or TV show all day long nonstop and you can't talk for 2 minutes about global warming, it's all about what you actually know to say .
I totally agree with you
Good point👍! Also, and most, it depends on definitions, expectations, mindset, perception, [lack of] hard work, determination, ambition, etc.
I can not talk all day long nonstop. I can sing for about two hours nonstop.
That works for me !
That’s exactly what I needed to hear.🙏
Sometimes I feel like my English is really good and words come out of my mouth so effortlessly. But there are also days when I struggle to put a few sentences together without making a mistake or getting stuck because I can’t find the right word to use.😮💨 On those days I tend to question my abilities and even the purpose of practicing. It’s a huge relief that I’m not the only person feeling that way and that the reason why I doubt myself is because I might have unrealistic expectations. I just think I’m going to see visible progress on a daily basis which is kind of silly when I think about it now.😁 Thank you for this video Hadar.😊
It also happens in our own languages😲. Fluency is not a flat and still state but a dynamic one, both in a foreign language and in the mother tongue. Don't be so hard on yourself and keep improving, whatever you have to do.🙂
Very nice in your talk about English language 🙏
You're the best teacher on TH-cam
Thank you for your giving idea and advice.
My english level is so poor but i try to speak
as much as i can but i din't have confident infront of people and then i can't speake infuently teacher.
Thanks for making me look back and appreciate the progress I have made! I had been condemning myself for several months already until I watched this video.
So happy to hear this❤️❤️
Thank you for these helpful suggestions. I've been struggling to improve my English level for a while. This video has given me a lot of great ideas to help adjust my learning approach, and I plan to incorporate these tips into my routine practices this year.
I recommend your videos to all my students, even though they might easily change teachers! Well done! Great videos! Keep it up!
Thank you my teacher
Thank you so much teacher.. I really love the topic. It's really true.. This is four language for me.. I am trying to to be honest... God bless you.. And happy new year.
I am feeling lucky that could be your podcast listener. I was learn a lot from you. Not just only the knowledge. Your
big heart, intention, attitude. Actually you inspired me a lot.
I really love speaking English fluently. It’s a beautiful language.
Welcome to the huge community Hadar has touched with their hart and wisdom.🎉
your motivation is amazing .
Thank you a lot teacher. I really needed these words.
Thank you so much for your tips to improve English and accents that would be really helpful to me 😍Mam
Hadar, good morning. I've seen many of your videos and I like your tecniques, your pronunciation etc, etc. My problem is my lack of speaking and practice. I read a lot, I'm not bad to write, and I enjoy studying, but I have difficult to speak and understand conversations. My name is José and I'm 76
Hallow, because you have already recognize your problem is about speaking and listening, you should start practicing speaking and listening skills, try to do ithem everyday by shadowing native speakers just for 30 minutes as well as trying to listen to English lg everyday for at least two hours. After 3 months you're going to see a huge change
There will always be a gap between what we can understand and what we can actually produce. I don't believe the gap is "created" because of passive exposure. It's just a fact about the human brain. What we can understand is always greater than what we can produce - including in our first language.
Thank you teacher
I'm happy with my developments
Thank you so much Hadar and happy new year!
Thanks
Let me think oh yes happy new year's for you brilliant teacher hadar god bless you and your family your videos are very important for me let's go
Happy new year Hader , I have seen and felt myself a little bit improved. Thank you Hader.
I just discovered you. I am struggling to improve my English. Please, do you have a kind of chronology that you can send me of your publications so I don't skip steps? How well he does it and how much optimism he has transmitted to me! Thanks for doing what you do.
Wonderful!!!!!
Thanks so much for teaching the lesson. 👍🙏
Have a lovely New Year Hadar. For me it's hard to be consistent and committed on my goal, I can't get rid of the distractions coming from myself and my environment. I put high expectations and lack time of practice recently. I set goal for this year will be more focus on my English grammar and speaking. Thank you for your wonderful video Hadar.
Sometimes English is not what you need. What you need is a wife.

I love watch your videos 🙏
Hello Hadar,
Happy New Year 2023I
I am Jann (from Hong Kong) It’s a small city.
Hadar i really think that you should rebrand your excellent advice in that your advice can be used for any form of language learning or even beyond that. I think that your downloads should reflect on all learning of language and that way you would have even more views. I would advise you to remove the mention of English learning completely and that way all learners could visit your site for great advice. I came upon you by accident since I speak English. But I wait for your downloads so I can apply your advice to my own learning. By the way your hair looks great. Thanks again Tommy.
👍Good point 💯! However, there are much more people learning English than any other language. And Yes!, it's true, that apply not only for languages but for any goal one set for oneself.🙂
Thx alot for your vids
Do you have any advice to understand music especially hip hop music?
i want to feel fluent, but in my particular case, some days i can feel fluent and smart and others i cant speak in the correct way, do you think that it is normal in my procces, i mean i think that this depend a lot of the mood of the day and the energy that we have every day, maybe our brain doesn’t work properly all days. and sometimes i feel frustrated.
That sounds absolutely normal and healthy! 😊
I didn’t learn phonics, that why it’s not easy to pronounce the new words
And where I put the tongue and how to pronounce correctly.
Also I really want to proof to myself I can do it and make it if I want to.
Step forward and action
I really really need your help Hadar.
What’s the best way I need to follow next?
Thank you so much Hadar🌈

você é ótima.
I feel scary when having a fully conversation with foreign people.
Always feel like blank in my mind.
I had a few bad times about my job interview with the foreigners
They said my English is not excellent enough to communicate with them
Even all the colleges are HK people
But they would like to use English as the language to communicate.
I admit that I am upset .
I am so amazed that you can speak English in many accents yet English is not your native language
👌👌👌🙏🙏🙏
I'm not fluenty because m'y brain doesn't working 😭
