      I mean to be fair this is a very flashy and EXTREMELY situational technique. While some people might clearly not know what they are talking about, you could make some fairly accurate criticism of this movement with even basic grappling knowledge.

    Just a personal opinion on the roll. Personally, I like to do a more full roll, I find it can help with speed and if someone sprawls in an mma fight, they'll more than likely come face down into your knee. On the flip side tho, this method has its pros, the main two being A, it's easier to get from a longer distance and B it's easier to follow from leg kicks (eg hall vs penn) definitely would recommend alternating between the both tho

      While that is true putting yourself in such a position does make it very hard to defend yourself. While this technique might look cool, and it might be effective in a purely grappling setting, I for one wouldn't try it anywhere else.
      The only time I've seen anything similar in MMA competition is Tony Ferguson's dark souls roll, and I think that only works because the man is legitimately crazy and extremely confusing to fight.
      It's not hard to throw a low level kick and have it connect, hell it wouldn't even be difficult to just take a step back and kick them when they come up. Going for a takedown against a prepared opponent without setup is asking to get hit.
      Look at Askren VS Masividal, I'm very sure many would say "you can't just flying knee someone to the head when they go for a leg".

    • @chadsworthgigafuck
      @chadsworthgigafuck 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AveSicarius I would never attempt this in any competitive match lol. That being said, I think people don't factor in that you actually have to react fast enough to employ a successful counter. This move is very fast, and unorthodox, if you aren't prepared for it, and the person knows what they're doing, it's gonna be extremely hard to successfully counter this, or any move for that matter.

    • @AveSicarius
      @AveSicarius 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chadsworthgigafuck
      It's like a spinning hook kick, it's surprising and you can do it very quickly if you know how. BUT if you know what to look for you can act right at the start, or even before the movement actually begins. That's a big part of fighting, and why so many techniques become much less effective when your opponent has a good knowledge of your style.
      If you know what to look for this technique is really obvious, I guess people could set it up by feinting a single/double leg prior then dropping into the roll.
      Unorthodox techniques only really work until people know about them (until they are orthodox basically) because they usually rely on surprise. You probably won't hit Wonderboy Thompson with a spinning back or hook kick for example, because he's seen it all, but Dan Henderson would run right into that (and he has multiple times).
      That's a big reason why BJJ isn't as effective in full contact as it used to be. It's orthodox now, and people know what to look for.
      I don't think many people are using this technique though haha, so probably good to go. You get major style points if you pull it off at least.

    Not the true imanari roll but close. The guy's left leg should be under the hips and not in front. He messes it up mid roll when he pauses to thread his leg through. May seem minor to those who don't train, but it's actually important because you open yourself up to counters leaving the foot in front. If you just watched this video and decide to try it, make sure you do it the right way. Not hating - but it matters. Oss! 🥋

    Fighting BJJ people --> randomly get butts in your face
    Its like an obscure animal defense mechanism in the "true facts about ..." series by zefrank.
    Imagine being attacked and you drop on the floor and roll while constantly pointing your butt to the attacker. That is how the BJJ practitioner do.

    Just remember if for God knows what reason someone actually successfully does this to you in a fight, they just gave you 5 little toes to break 1 at a time. 😁

    • @kobiee2x137
      @kobiee2x137 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go ahead and break his toes “1 at a time” while he snaps your ankle so bad that your foot can high five your calf muscle.

    • @PhoenixBlade
      @PhoenixBlade 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kobiee2x137 no there is a totally different move for that. You see his hand placement? He is pinning down the leg and prying it to keep it captured. The moment he puts his hands on the foot to twist it he would loose that prying action, and ideally that's when you escape. Again assuming someone can put this on you.
