    I wish I had found this video sooner, I am now 37 weeks +4 days with my first child (22 years old) and I didn't even know hyperemesis was a thing until Ive had to experience it myself. I remember everyone telling me the nausea and vomiting would get better & that it would go away in the second trimester and unfortunately week by week passed and I never got any relief 😢 but thankfully once it got diagnosed as hyperemesis gravidarum and I started trying nausea medications eventually I found a medication that helped and have found which foods trigger that nausea and vomiting and it has gotten so much more manageable for me. Being sick and kind of miserable 24/7 was definitely not what I was expecting going into my first pregnancy but I am beyond thankful for modern medicine and I just keep reminding myself that I am going through this for the best reason ever and it will be so worth it in the end which is finally so close!😊

    I’m 36 weeks pregnant with a baby girl and my morning sickness still hasn’t completely gone away. I still get nauseous and sometimes vomit in the morning. At the beginning of my pregnancy I would get severely sick every 2-3 hours, which subsided when I ate something. Food had to include something with bread, pasta or crackers, or else it wouldn’t work to subside my nausea. As my pregnancy went along, I could go more hours without eating and not feel sick. Now I still only feel sick in the morning, which makes sense since it’s 7-9 hours without food. But having to eat more frequently than I had to previous to being pregnant has slowly made me gain more weight than I’d like (30 lbs already).
    My sister in law gets hyperemesis during her pregnancies and she is currently pregnant... she lost 25 lbs in the first 12 weeks of her pregnancy and was severely dehydrated and put on IVs. Now she’s on medication and it is more under control.

Thankfully that little babe should be here in a few weeks and it will completely go away! And actually sounds like you are on the right track for weight gain--recommended is 25-35 pounds, and you only have 4-5 weeks left. So don't beat yourself up, you are doing great. Sounds like your sister in law is having a rough go too, but I'm happy to hear the meds help a little for her. You both hang in there!

The bonjesta the ob put me on did nothing. I was constantly eating crackers to push the vomit back down my throat all day long.
    At 21 weeks, I remember telling my ob that I was still suffering. He didn’t believe me. He told me it was just heartburn and to take tums. A couple weeks later, I was vomiting blood and suicidal. So many people just do not understand how terrible it can be. And because I was gaining so much weight, noone believed me.

Everything makes me nauseous even breathing through my nose, the mere thought of food, and even plain water. I vomit everyday. I have basically been living off of vitamin water and Gatorade for the last 3 days.

    Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I am currently 6 weeks pregnant, and struggling with nausea at all times of the day. Since I have extreme fear for vomiting (I have been diagnosed with emetophobia), I struggle to eat and drink. After one week of being on a 600 kcal diet, I start to struggle with the thought that I will have to do this for another 10 weeks. I am a skinny girl, and already lost at least a kg this week. My boyfriend urges me to start vomiting to release the anxiety, and maybe open up the option to eat more. After seeing your video, I tend more towards medication. What would you recommend?

      I am also emetophobic and had horrendous nausea from weeks 6-10, but I didn't throw up a single time or take any anti-nausea meds! I mostly listened to my body on what it would tolerate me eating, and I made sure to eat something very small every 2-4 hours to keep the acid from building up in my stomach. Fresh air also helped whenever any smells indoors would make me feel sick. I'm now on week 12 and regaining my appetite. Best of luck to all expectant mothers!

      As for protein--we usually have some grilled chicken in our fridge that I like to nibble on. I also like to put some peanut butter on an apple. But honestly (I know that data says protein is supposed to be best) I found salty and carby snacks were the most helpful. I find myself eating a bowl of cheerios at 10pm or making pancakes. Its grapeseed oil and young living oil.
      Question- I was prescribed diclictin or how ever you spell it. For sickness but I took it once and i couldn't function i was so tired. The zophran or what you said for nausua does that make u so tired too? What about the natural gravel is that ok? Thanks for your help

  • @lisaherron2423
    @lisaherron2423 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Thanks so much for this! I had terrible nausea my first pregnancy till 20 weeks.. it was constant but worse in evening and overnight, I didn't sleep much. Because I had no vomiting, my family doctor would only prescribe Diclectin, which didn't help. I missed a lot of work and my employer was not happy. To cope I ate carbs constantly and gained 50 lbs. We're trying to conceive again and I'm afraid of a repeat! In your practice, do you consider using medications for severe nausea alone if it's impacting the pregnant person's quality of life?

    • @TheDoctorsBjorkman
      @TheDoctorsBjorkman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lisa. That sounds brutal. And sounds like you coped in the only way you could!! If the carbs helped, I'd eat carbs constantly too. Every doctor is different, but generally, if nausea is making it so you are constantly miserable, can't life your life, go to work, etc...then I would absolutely have a discussion about starting prescription medications. It's always a risk vs benefit conversation that is unique to every patient, but there are usually mom & baby safe anti-nausea meds out there that might be able to help--even if only a little. It might be a great idea to have a talk with your OB about starting some meds early in your next pregnancy, before it gets bad. There is some data that prophylactically starting meds can prevent it from getting severe. Keep us posted on how it goes. We will be thinking of you.

    So i had this constant queasiness, never felt like throwing up, so none of the typical tips helped me. Neither ginger tea, nor mint tea. Only eating to the point of super stretched stomach or eating a cinnabon cake would help. Which is obviously not something i could do 4 times a day for 6 weeks or so. So i had to take some tablets - diclegis, however now im noticing that if im taking them at night the queasiness might still linger during the day. So may need to take them during the day.

      My husband helps me by comforting me and helping me de-stress. My man will offer to give me foot massages, cook for me (if I can’t get up from bed- and I am weak), help me with daily chores, he’ll help me shave my legs (lol its hard shaving when that belly bump grows in), tell her she’s strong and that you’re there for her. We are 24 weeks currently sometimes my husband will get frustrated with me because he wants to help but really just don’t get frustrated because she’ll get stressed and feel 10x worse than she already is. Be patient and tell her to get rest and nap. Remind her that she’s growing a baby inside of her and it’s a lot of work! Just be patient with her and always grab plastic bags for her if she has motion sickness. Pat her on the back every-time she pukes.
      For me, I have asthma so I’ll have my man get my inhaler and give me a pump if I can’t hold it myself.
      After the baby is born ask if she plans on doing birth- control. Its very easy for women to get pregnant again. That’s a personal choice but I know I’m definitely only having one child cuz HG sucks!
      Hope this helped. Unfortunately you can’t do much just be patient and try to understand her struggle. Tell her to tell you what to do as well if you’re tired of wondering what to do, it’s okay to ask for help.

      It does sound like you are drinking plenty of water! If your urine is a clear, pale yellow, that is also a good indicator that you are not dehydrated. That feeling of a dry mouth is common in early pregnancy, and some women find that chewing gum or using a dry-mouth mouthwash helps. On the flip side, some women have excess saliva in early pregnancy. It is crazy how every body is different! If you are worried, it is always a good idea to talk to your doctor so they can review if you have any signs of anything else going on that could be contributing!

      I'm going through the same thing , I go alot more , drink lots of water and occasionally have to mix up with gingeralle .. constantly have a bad cough and any pressure on my stomach causes a little bit of urine to come out even if I just went . I usually get up atleast 2-4 x a night to pee. Their are even times I go and not even 10 minutes have passed and I can't rush to a bathroom quick enough just to let out a little bit .. idk what to do in this situation.. I've always had a small bladder and very little control of my pelvic floor but it's even worse. I still feel so weak and dehydrated, with a sore throat . Its miserable how thirsty I get but I can't drink alot without a tummy ache and my throat still hurts - it doesn't even relieve it .
