Creating My Custom 3-link Long Arm Suspension System / PART 1
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 8 ก.ย. 2024
- Time to build a 3 link long arm suspension with crossmember for the Jeep XJ. Also dial in Caster, Camber and Pinion Angle.
I've run short arms for 10 years and now that I've got the green light on some long arms I'm building a new crossmember and three link setup using DOM tubing, 1.25" and 7/8ths chromoly rod ends along with poly bushings to try and find some good offroad and on road performance.
Its an ambitious and involved project for me and my basic workshop but hopefully the end results are worth it.
Thanks for watching,
Mike

Watching from SE Arizona. I like your presentation style and attention to detail. On to part 2!!
Awesome, appreciate the comment and thanks for watching!
This is some hardcore installation going on , loving it !
Yip no what your talking about mate 🤪very good 👍🏻🏴
Thanks mate, it was pretty involved for me but hopefully it drives good! Thanks again for watching
change that upper axle bushing to a rebuildable joint, currie sells a pre machined one but if theres a common rebuildable joint like that sold in europe just machine it to press fit into the upper
Thats the plan I think. I bought a poly kit that I can use in a sleeve. It's not a flex joint but it will do. Thanks for watching
MAN! You're committed... Amazing the amount of work you inflict to yourself considering the tools and the garage...
You make me think of Ulysse.
Awesome work Mike! It’s amazing to see what you accomplished in your garage with basic tools. Because of your location, lack of available parts. And crazy shipping fees from the USA. It’s kinda forced you to just fabricate what you need/want. The Jeep has evolved over the years. And you have too Mike. Your one hell of a fabricator 👊
Not vehicle mechanics inclined, but enjoy the channel.
Amazing, what you can get done in an afternoon
Not going to pretend I understand anything you just did, but you made it entertaining 👌Carry on good sir
Dong arms, it's the only important part!
Thanks for watching
this brings back memories
Of when I built my transmission support/longarm kit
For my '97 XJ
Wow I've followed you since u started with all the body work in ur bushcraft days. The jeep in so gd now love watching it just get better and better just a beast. What's next😂?
Well this was a spontaneous kind of thing and I'm actually wanting it all done ASAP so I can get back out and do some winter adventures 😄.
Next up is rebuilding the rear camping setup, or updating it.
wow to pretty cant drive that on the road looks awesome
havent seen any of your vids for while thinking dogman might got ya good to see your well
Dong arm's inc. Just dont let Jimmy see it.
Damn man, that is a huge amount of work, but it will be super nice when it’s done… thanks for the upload..:)
Ive always cound the Turdaflex butt plug 2000EX to fit a bit more snug than the OEM one
Hundred percent 💯 👌
Excellent work Mike . Well done mate and thanks for all the illustrative shooting and uploading . 👊
MCQ DongCraft.
Awesome! I've done that on my zj
We Miss You :D
Good stuff my friend! 👍💪
Nice work
Much respect. Nice work!
“Butt plugs, whatever I can get” lmao!
Good to see that somebody cares for doing things right. I have 89 4.0 XJ and I'm planning to do front link upgrade. I would go for 4 link but it might be not aware enought how tight it is up there... Love Your XJ! Greetings from Poland! Can You elaborate on why you choose 3 link not 4 link?
I just chose a 3 link because of exhaust clearance. It was much easier to make a three link work under the jeep. A 4 link would be better for safety but I don't want to build a new exhaust. Thanks for the comment and for watching
Nice job man!
9:04 your getting up like youve just been trapped in a collapsed mine for 2 weeks lol. i can feel it from here. grinding anything off at that angle is terrible
Yeah lol, it's always brutal grinding under vehicles. These days, I've opted for more protective gear, which seems to extend my patience for it all. Thanks for watching
Do love how you managed to slip that butt plug in there like the true professional you are 😎
Just a thought ... we all know where at least 50% of your sore throats comes from but I've watched you welding a lot with a face full of fumes. If you can aim a fan at about head height but not at the weld height to try and get rid of a lot of that. Makes a huge difference to the amount of crap your taking in and you'll feel better for it. Either than or spring for an air fed mask. Expensive but you've got monsters to raise and all that 😉
Appreciate that. I'm often wearing a mask with a gas filler on it although I didn't have a replacement filter this time. I will try the small fan tip along with the mask, should help with the dirt throat! 😉
Thanks again for watching and for the comment
They Shlong arms mate, get it right.
And about the rear end? Are you keeping the leaf springs?
With the cross member are you worried about the front drive shaft rubbing. From the camera angle it looked really close.
Its further away than it looks. It must be the camera angle or something. Thanks for watching
hi good day, i have 2000 4.0 xj, wanna build just what you did to yours, and i wanna ask please if what measurements of those long arm you fabricated, eye-to-eye please, instead of buying why not build my own right, and thats my problem, dimensions and ill start from there, just the long arm sir, thanks and much appreciated if you could give me some numbers, have a great day, cheers
I will get you some measurements on the arms. Do you want them in Metric or Imperial?
Hi, I have a problem with the climate/hot air system on my 1998 Jeep Cherokee XJ 2.5 D. Airflow only goes to the windshield and the A/C compressor runs continuously regardless of the position of the hot/cold selector or airflow selector. Please, if you know how the system and the control panel work, help me with some advice. The airflow selector doesn't switch, it works only on windshield position.
I don't have AC on mine so unfortunately I have no experience on it. I imagine though that the jeep has a resistor that has failed. Probably a climate control resistor that's burnt up.
With regards to the direction of air flow this is a failed switch or solenoid. Mine has a similar issue, it won't blow air on my feet. I haven't taken it apart yet to look at it. Sorry I can't be more help
Check for vacuum leak. Which vent is used is changed by vacuum and defrost is the default for the system if no vacuum is present. The defroster setting engages the ac system to dry the air and to run the compressor for off season maintenance. Hopefully that helps good luck
The tool you are mentioning at 6:11, I don't have that in my garage. How does it help? Just gave a follow on the insta aswell. I normally only work on Saabs as you would see ;)
Its a precision tool used for bungjng dung shoots in the event of a 'bitten off more than I can chew scenario'. Its really helpful!
Thanks for watching
