That is my grandfather on the piano, Arthur Weinstein. Played piano as a young man and continued to share his passion for music until the day he passed away in 2010. He returned home from Korea in 1957. In January of 1958, his wife, Dorothy, gave birth to my father, Russell Weinstein. An amazing guitarist and a human encyclopedia of all things music, had an extremely dysfunctional relationship with his father which has always made him feel disconnected from his own dad. I hope finding this footage for my dad can show him that him and his father have much more in common than he thinks. Music has honesty saved my dad's life. My father served with the 25th Infantry Division from the time of the Japanese occupation until well after the Korean armistice. To this very day he speaks about the fearlessness and ferocity that the Turkish forces he knew exhibited. He says they were some of the finest soldiers he ever had the privileged fighting beside.

Poet Victoria Hunter no no. She was considered plus sized back then. Sure she smoked and drank, like any other person then. Plus yes she got a bit of work on her face (her nose, but not implants, if u compare, and from what surgeons have said), but her body is natural and curvy, the only thing slim about her is her waist, and that’s just how she was built. It’s natural. Yes she did bleach her hair but with dark or blonde hair both she looked beautiful and iconic. Her IQ was definitely another very beautiful thing about her and for me, her intelligence and personality and sweetness, plus that smile and those eyes, will definitely too my list of things I find beautiful about her. Her body comes after that too though.
Poet Victoria Hunter she is most definitely not my role model but she is still someone I admire and respect because she truly has had a hard life but she still thrived (except her sad later years). everyone and their mother knows she was hooked on drugs before she killed herself - she was depressed. I don’t want to look like her, I’m not white either. Her body is nice for sure though, but I want to be myself. Beyoncé? Ur seriously telling me, a huuuuge fan of Beyoncé (and MJ), that she wouldn’t be respected after death? Honey, she’s respected NOW while she’s alive, why wouldn’t she in death? Also she may have gotten a nose surgery, and who knows what else but it does not take away from her beauty at all, such small things, same w Marilyn. Whitney Houston is also still respected after her death, and same w/ MJ. You could have used a better example because there is definitely a difference between how white and colored people are treated but that doesn’t mean we have to hate white icons. She got work done, but so have so many celebrities NOW, ones people idolize 🙄 all in all, im just saying there’s nothing to hate her about: her beauty, her sweetness, her IQ or her mind. P.S. I love her for her mind too. I wasn’t meaning to come for you, I was meaning to object to the Marilyn slander, but yeah.
Poet Victoria Hunter (heh that’s all you replied to, aight). I’m not even white lmao nor do I like most white people bc I do have a not so good view of them. Ur life was hard but that doesn’t make any other person’s life less hard. She didn’t know her parents, from what I heard, she had a bad foster mother, she was sad for a lot of her life and was constantly emotionally abused by the men in her life when she just wanted to be loved. She was rich and famous yes but she got there herself using her charms, body, grace, singing and dancing. And she was never really happy. can’t hate someone just cuz they got rich with their own merit. She made bad choices but so did any other person. No one is perfect. Anyway, that’s all I have to say. I’ll end it here bye. :)
Fun fact: She was freezing considering it’s was very cold outside. But she persisted that she’d perform for the soldiers to make them happy. She was also on a solo trip during this moment from Japan with her honeymoon with Joe DiMaggio as he was doing business in Japan. Such a sweet woman with a good heart.
You're spot on, Angela! Love to see other Marilyn lovers especially the ones who have done the research 💜 I believe she also really sick after this performance as well.

It is true that February temperatures is very cold like Southern part of Canada. I was grade 2 student of elementary school in Korea just after Korean War ended. At that time our country was among one of poorest country in the world but now South Korea become 20th wealthy country in term of GDP. We Korean are thankful for the support from Western country, particularly from USA and other Western allies, like UK and Canada.
My husband formed the all-soldier band "Anything Goes" to entertain the troops as the war was winding down in Korea. Marilyn joined that band to tour with them. He is playing the drums to relieve one of the back-up singers. What stories he has to share of those fascinating 4 days!
Camille Yahm AMAZING! You should coordinate an on-camera session where he tells those stories and upload it to TH-cam! I bet a lot of people would be interested in hearing of his adventures!
I work in a retirement home for Screen Actors Guild members. Some of the residents who are now in their 90's knew Marilyn. They all said she was the sweetest, most down to Earth person. One of them was a play write and a former screenwriter, who was a good friend and neighbors with Marilyn back in NYC in the 50's. He showed me a photo of her at his apartment, where she had come over to a pot luck he was having. She was sitting at a small table with a small group of people having what appeared to be the biggest belly laugh. He said she was an excellent baker and was so well read. You could talk to her about anything.
Thank you for sharing this intimate episode, as what's mundane but true in life is genuinely precious.. (so rare in showbusiness where all is projected as fantastic)
wow she's so legendary, almost mythical, of course I've seen her face everywhere it's rare to actual see footage of her . so unique, as beautiful as they claimed she was. it's not just her looks, it's her poise too
not only that despite what people said about her and her troubles she was very sweet and treated everyone fairly i don't know why she used to get so much hate
Isn't the internet the best bloody invention ever! Being able to visit history in a few clicks of a button! Wonderful. I love the 50s but kinda glad I'm around to enjoy our technology lol
Natalie Lina people say she was plus sized because of the way the sizes were back then. she was very slim and in good physical shape. the pictures they use to prove she was plus size was from when she was pregnant
T R she was not,you can obviously tell she ain’t that big from looking at this. People believe that because the sizing was different at those times and people think those are the same as today. She was about a size 4
She actually was a size zero in today measurements from what a modeling organization she worked with had on her. The times she looked more thick was when she was pregnant which was a few times but she could never carry a baby full term unfortunately:(
She wanted to be a star. But she was destined for tragedy. She was too pretty, too talented, and too nice. She had no idea how high a price they would make her pay for that stardom. The nasty old demons who run Hollywood ate her up like hungry lions. If the studio had left her alone she would probably have enjoyed a long and happy life. They pimped her out and ruined her.
@@FallacyAsPraxis I would also add that she had major issues because of a very sad childhood. Her dad abandoned the family & her mom was sent to a mental hospital. Marylin married at 16 but divorced her husband soon after. Hollywood capitalized on her looks and her thirst for ‘wanting to be loved’. Simple as that but so tragic.
@@mona2242 Many blame Hollywood for contributing to her tragedy and they do bear responsibility. However, even if Hollywood was never a part of Marilyn's life, there was no guarantee of Marilyn living a long, happy life as she never appeared to make a choice to confront and deal with her demons - feelings of abandonment and desire to be loved. She appeared not to love herself yet wanted others to love her. She self-medicated with alcohol, drugs and men rather than making the choice to deal with her past trauma. I don't believe that there was no one in her life that could not see the destructive path that she was on and didn't lovingly tell her and try to persuade her away from her soul-destroying lifestyle.
she was never considered plus size. when it was revealed her dress size was a 12 people assumed it was a modern 12 but back then it was about a size 4. she was extremely tiny with a 22 inch waist
@@Vexarax I've noticed that too. Beauty standards always come and go in cycles and the curvaceous body type is back in style now, but with more of a focus on ass 😁😁😁 I wonder what will be the next trend for the 2020s.
Love hearing what a strong singing voice she really had, not just that "little girl whisper" we'd seen/heard in movies. She's pretty much belting it out!
Over the years hollywood has failed to replace marilyn, 65 years after her death and her name is still powerful, her personality, charisma, sense of humour and fashion still stands the test of time indeed she was a woman far ahead of her time.
Marilyn was quoted as saying in an interview, that this performance was the first time she realized she was famous. For the longest time she couldn’t believe that people really loved her and was very self conscious of her talent.
Most people assume that Marilyn was strictly a Hollywood confection -- talented, for sure, but still an edited product. But here she is live on a bare stage, and she's great. She's beautiful, sings great, and had a ton of confidence and charisma.
How awesome! My boyfriends grandpa is in his 90s and served as a medic in the Korean War also. Is your grandfather still with you? I should really start asking my bfs grandpa if he saw Marilyn. He met Frank Sinatra a couple times and Lucille Balle once he loves telling stories of his time in the Army, so many great ones
This woman was a true star! She lit up on stage! She was magical and beautiful. There aren't too many people that can do that today! No Wonder why Marilyn's talent lives on! and There wont be anyone like her. She will live in the hearts and minds of many for a very long time!
Missy T Whitney was not better singer the other bitch only had nice whistles but she couldn’t control them Like Mariah can , Mariah is better musician then Whitney, whitney was just cover singer , Mariah MADE music . Whitney was horrible mother and killed her self leaving her child to kill her self . Whitney ruined her self and her voice . Mariah is classily and better
Missy T lol Whitney voice in 2000s was HORRID their video of the news even saying why is she having a farewell concert when she sounds how she sounds , she was younger than Mariah too . Whitney was just cover singer her biggest hit is a cover song . Mariah has Christmas classic she wrote that will live past Whitney and everyone else

She had never done this before; but she was so confident, she owned the stage! She could easily have played Broadway or Vegas if her emotional stability had not been so fragile. She was a born trouper and a born star.
Antoinette Jolie - Madame Sade Oh, someone sounds a wee bit jealous. I've read your other comments on here. You should watch yourself before you turn into a bitter, unwanted spinster. Or has that happened already?
The Book of Joshua Any Woman Can Put on Pounds of MakeUp & Short Clothes & Make a Crowd Go Crazy. I Would Know. I've Worked in Club/Entertainment Industry For Years. Maybe You Also Didn't Watch Her Interviews on How it Took Her Hours to Get Ready to Become 'Marilyn' or How Ppl Did Not Recognize Her at All When She Went Out in Public 🤷🏽♀️ ..That's What I'm Jealous of? 😆 By the Way, I'm Only Watching This Video Because They Mention it in a Book I'm Reading.
Antoinette Jolie - Madame Sade Thanks for your comment... and confirming what I said. You've worked in the entertainment business for years... and you've gotten absolutely nowhere. So you see someone as dazzling as Marilyn and you're probably sitting there wondering how this person with "too much make up and big thighs" made it and you haven't, (as I'm sure you're thinking, judging on your comments). Well listen lady, being a star isn't just about looks; it's about charisma and the way you connect with people. And the few comments I've read from you REEK of bitterness and jealousy. And I don't know why women always cut each other like that. You gals are always claiming men are the sexist ones. But, really, you lot don't have each others backs at all. Particularly if the target is attractive. I've seen this too many times. I wasn't trying to offend you, really. But you absolutely fall into the category of women who see a successful woman and wonder why it isn't you. You WISH you could have this effect on people like Marilyn did - there you are night after night working in clubs / on stage / whatever / trying to make your dreams come true. But you are still in the waiting line. My advice? Enjoy those that can, like Marilyn. And be happy with what you've got. I'm sure you're a nice person. You need to reconnect to that part of yourself and appreciate other women's talents rather than leaving catty remarks on TH-cam, (body shaming??) I get the feeling you're more than that. Take care.
Can you believe she interrupted her honeymoon with Joe the Yankee clipper to entertain the troops and encourage the wounded? Brilliant! Considering MM was a film actress who required many takes to get it just right this was great. Here she is performing live on stage in front of thousands in the freezing cold with a live band no less and back up singers. She did ten shows for the adoring troops and sang one signature song after another with aplomb. She could have easily performed on Broadway or had a Vegas show and raked in millions. What a gal!
She seems so free, so happy and wow even more beautiful (if that’s even possible) what a gloriously complex woman!!!! On international woman’s day..... I gotta say Marilyn your a whole lot of woman xxxx
This has probably has to be one of the greatest salutes and ways to thank a soldier. A woman, beautiful inside and out, sharing her talents in a very flirtatious, fun-loving, gracious, sensual, and gorgeous manner. True love. Not tacky, or over the top, but a bit daring too. She still was classy. I think the men must have really been moved actually
She was the first hypergamous feemale of her time and many feemales followed her first steps when feminism hit the scene.... Nothing special just ****titution and she capitalized very well, she got with President for money and resources for goodness sake! But lets stop praising these lifestyles of females who use their bodies to get what they want!
Totally agree with all you said, and was thinking the same thing. She did these performances with love (and she was good!) and was titillating but also tasteful.
Even when she was at her heaviest she was thin, that's Hollyweird for ya!! In fact look at pics of her at her heaviest she was gorgeous and looked like a woman should. If only people could have known then what runway models today would look like imagine what they would have thought and said. It's absolutely disgusting.
Still feel like hollywood is still trying to find their 'new' Marilyn and they still can't replace her. Legendary. Also, it's crazy to think my grandpa, God rest his soul, was a Korean War vet and that he's sitting in the audience in this video somewhere. Miss you, PGL.
The delicacy and the grace in the movement of her arms, hands, fingers and body. Let’s not even talk about her soft airy voice and her ethereal beauty. What an icon !
A bit of history of this day that she performed for the soldiers. She was actually very ill, with pneumonia and those close to her were worried and felt she should call it off. She persisted that she needed to go on with the show, as it was for the morale of the soldiers. She did not want to let them down. It was also freezing cold and she performed in a sleeveless dress. She was definitely a sweet and kind human being. She looked stunning, regardless of her obstacles that day too !

@superteddeyy: I highly doubt. The sun light is right into his lens so he was seating in the the wrong location and on those days, it was really hard to get the right exposure, with unfriendly light, considering everything manual. If you see, the site photographer is far to the left (Not in the field of footage but you can see his flash popping several time), just form the other side, despite having the sun also in that direction. I think the picture you have in mind, is his job. I guess this guy at best could have some silhouettes of MM. Then the bro on the left (Photographing soldier's right) is so excited and moving so much, blocking half of what the guy's pictures! But good eyes on your part. For a second, I though there is another photographer to his left, using small flash (A luxury for those days) but it seems that its only Marilyn's diamond ring dazzling (@ 05:19 and then two second later)!

This is so great! Thanks for posting. I always thought she was a terrific singer and this really proves it. I heard she caught pneumonia from singing in just her little cocktail dress out in the freezing cold. She didn't want to disappoint the troops. Apparently Joe DiMaggio was eclipsed by her fame while there so just shows how popular she was already.
I was there, I saw her through performing like a diva with no chains, no strings, just a free spirit mesmerizing everybody with her voice and charm and my God they she was heavenly beautiful.
This girl has seriously natural beauty. Even if she did not change her haircolor she was still beautiful. Not many people in Hollywood can say that not even the Kardashians.
This was when Marilyn was on her honeymoon with Joe DiMaggio in Japan and the army asked her to go to Korea for a week to entertain the troops. She was overwhelmed with how loved she was by the Army men. When she got back to Japan she said to Joe, "You can't imagine how incredible is was hearing 100,000 men cheering your name." Joe said, "Yes, I can and have."
That sounds like something he would say. I always believed they divorced because he literally couldn't stomach both the ongoing jealousy and fear that would plague someone being married to another person of this caliber of star quality and desirability, and the fact that she was just as famous but more beloved and admired than he was. Being a woman gave her a quality that Joe DiMaggio couldn't have, and the male attitudes at this time both would have made her attractive and yet irritating to him. People always want to grab things that aren't something you can hold.

@@ReddishNeck Have you actually ever watched Elvis, either from his beginning years or later on in concert during his jumpsuit years? You could never say he was stationary, especially at the beginning! Plus you cannot put Marilyn in the same bracket as Elvis and Michael, because Marilyn was never a professional singer. So happy she got this experience which helped her realize how loved and adored she was by her audience. And what she brought to the table as a performer.

Sad how the Netflix show Blonde seems to focus on so many negatives and ignores the incredible highlights like this
Yes , It's like the movie Blonde was made by a group of people who hate Monroe. The most disrespectful movie for a biggest star
i absolutely hate that show. im never watching it. ive only seen clips and decided its probably the most disrespectful thing ive seen.
That stuff doesn't sell, but the drama, drugs and death does.
Remember, Blonde is a work of fiction. Marilyn is a bookmark in history. Neither the book or the movie has much to do about history.

she was so beautiful
Poet Victoria Hunter yes she has all those features but she’s still beautiful
Poet Victoria Hunter oh shut up
Fun fact: She was freezing considering it’s was very cold outside. But she persisted that she’d perform for the soldiers to make them happy. She was also on a solo trip during this moment from Japan with her honeymoon with Joe DiMaggio as he was doing business in Japan.

My husband formed the all-soldier band "Anything Goes" to entertain the troops as the war was winding down in Korea. Marilyn joined that band to tour with them. He is playing the drums to relieve one of the back-up singers. What stories he has to share of those fascinating 4 days!

No auto tune here. Just voice with a beautiful vibrato. Her hands are always expressively delicate.
they managed to record her voice well enough..no muffled noises
Watching this can't see why people consider her as plus size, she ain't skinny or bones but plus size???
Just slender with curves
Natalie Lina people say she was plus sized because of the way the sizes were back then. she was very slim and in good physical shape. the pictures they use to prove she was plus size was from when she was pregnant
she wasn’t a 10-12, she was a lot smaller than that, sizing just changed from then to mow
T R she was not,you can obviously tell she ain’t that big from looking at this. People believe that because the sizing was different at those times and people think those are the same as today. She was about a size 4
classicarah I'm pretty sure there's a misunderstanding of what I said, but I was referring to her actual clothing thats in collections
She actually was a size zero in today measurements from what a modeling organization she worked with had on her. The times she looked more thick was when she was pregnant which was a few times but she could never carry a baby full term unfortunately:(
Marilyn had a lot of problems but you can tell deep down she was a kind and decent person.
@@FallacyAsPraxis yes💔
@@FallacyAsPraxis увы 😔
How the HELL was she considered plus sized?? She looks like a healthy woman with beautiful curves!
she was never considered plus size. when it was revealed her dress size was a 12 people assumed it was a modern 12 but back then it was about a size 4. she was extremely tiny with a 22 inch waist
@@Vexarax I've noticed that too. Beauty standards always come and go in cycles and the curvaceous body type is back in style now, but with more of a focus on ass 😁😁😁 I wonder what will be the next trend for the 2020s.

What a gal!

For a second, I though there is another photographer to his left, using small flash (A luxury for those days) but it seems that its only Marilyn's diamond ring dazzling (@ 05:19 and then two second later)!

Yup lol I was just watching that part too! Wow just crazy

Me too
Neah Neah that's if you went to heaven, study islam
Alyssa Cilliers Same girl same
I have the utmost respect for the people, especially the ladies, who tried to bolster the morale of the troops.
🤮🤮 do you mean the comfort women?
Marlene Dietrich was a tireless entertainer for Allied troops in WW2
@@sophieminter0 No, but I do not look down on them either. Providing companionship, however fleeting, to people that may soon lose their lives protecting us, is nothing to be ashamed of.
@@sophieminter0 what was a comfort women
@@sophieminter0 comfort women weren't providing morale, as you know. They were trafficked intro being mass raped by the Japanese initial army. The United States has dulce the same, it's just not talked about and seemingly smaller scale, but look for the soldiers testimonies on TH-cam and you'll find them.
What a woman!!! Legendary and timeless!!! She is "Number one" forever 💋
OMG how beautiful she was. It breaks my heart to see how women that have embraced their beauty and intelligence be destroyed for just those things. But she got the last laugh. They're still drooling over her. What an amazing talent.
How she was destroyed and when?
@@SlayBaseOne she wasn’t destroyed, she was diminished by mainstream society to her looks while she was also very intelligent. However, it is Hollywood
Really missing when celebrities had more class.
PoGirl when movie star quality actually meant movie star quality along with movie star looks not so much what we see these days
@Se A lol
@Se A class is not spreading rumors about the dead
@Se A haha
First person that popped up in my head was cardo b tweaking while pregnant on stage lol.
She's wearing a full dress. Neckline's not that low too. Yet she exudes sexiness. There's something in her and her charisma. Nowadays, dresses must reveal too much before they say it's sexy.
Playana Kobi well, nowadays “sexy” is the same as “trashy”
Agreed
🙄😒
yet in her day what she was wearing, and as a sex icon she was probably considered trashy then too. these comments: same shit, different era. ya’ll aren’t making some profound comment, just judging what women wear as usual, which ironically i’m pretty sure Marilyn Monroe had to endure as well.
edit: sp
The dress shows her curves, like how people finds catsuits sexy given the right curves. Nothing different about it.
She looks as though she is genuinely enjoying herself.
Looking fabulous and relaxed performing
This is so great! Thanks for posting. I always thought she was a terrific singer and this really proves it. I heard she caught pneumonia from singing in just her little cocktail dress out in the freezing cold. She didn't want to disappoint the troops. Apparently Joe DiMaggio was eclipsed by her fame while there so just shows how popular she was already.
You can’t catch pneumonia from the cold or being cold. Medical fact.
You can really hear her chops on Bye Bye Baby - controlled, tone, vibrato, pitch. Lovely to finally see this footage.
No wonder why the world keeps talking about it, she is a real beauty. She's beautiful!
I was there, I saw her through performing like a diva with no chains, no strings, just a free spirit mesmerizing everybody with her voice and charm and my God they she was heavenly beautiful.
You were there ? What do you mean
You were there? You’re looking a lil too young lmao
@@celestegarcia923 lolll
Look at how graceful her hands move. Like a real life princess. Wow.
Look at all those guys....just hanging on to every word of the song she sings. So very sweet!
1:10 the way the guys in the back look at her. I can only imagine her charisma : )
Marylin Monroe, an iconic woman. I hope she found her peace ❤️
My grandfather was there he would always tell us the story of how he saw her in the freezing cold and she still sung with such passion
She was naturally beautiful. No Botox, fillers, over pumped up lips or tattooed eyebrows. Will never age. What a legend.

Hello
Your comment is repulsive. Everyone admired her. She is not a toy.
Brilliant performance... Thank you for uploading a gem like this one !
This girl has seriously natural beauty. Even if she did not change her haircolor she was still beautiful. Not many people in Hollywood can say that not even the Kardashians.
She did change her hair color.
One of the first to go under the knife fully. Do some research darling. She is the blueprint for the Kardashian's.
@@lillyroon5937 and PLENTY more.

Indeed.
This is proof that she could really sing. No dubbing, no editing, no film enhancement. Just a single microphone. God she was something!
Her magnetism remains unsurpassed still today. Great Marilyn Monroe 🌟💋
♥️♥️♥️♥️👄
This was when Marilyn was on her honeymoon with Joe DiMaggio in Japan and the army asked her to go to Korea for a week to entertain the troops. She was overwhelmed with how loved she was by the Army men. When she got back to Japan she said to Joe, "You can't imagine how incredible is was hearing 100,000 men cheering your name." Joe said, "Yes, I can and have."
Too bad that the two of them could not stay together. Her fault that’s she could;d not understand he was just at heart a working class mug.
@@JRobbySh he was a cold man
That sounds like something he would say. People always want to grab things that aren't something you can hold.
hahahaha
Notice even the musicians can't take their eyes off her...same thing when Elvis sings, his guys always have their eyes on him too 👀
Agree, two of the most beautiful, charismatic and talented people to have ever walked the planet!
@@xdra31 add on Michael Jackson and you have a killer trio
@@NotJoegoldberg Bit different with Jackson as he moved around the stage and danced a lot so his band really couldn't look at him in the same way as Marilyn and Elvis who were more stationary.
@@NotJoegoldberg Agree, but Michael ruined his looks with too much cosmetic surgery. He was beautiful imo naturally, but if only he’d not had anything else done after how he looked in the early eighties, he would have been perfect!
She was an actress by profession who just happened to sing!
So happy she got this experience which helped her realize how loved and adored she was by her audience. And what she brought to the table as a performer.
She was a freaking legend!!!! She is the perfect example of beauty with talent
She was so magnificently beautiful !! As a beauty -- she set the bar so high! She was not only beautiful on the outside -- but beautiful on the inside. No one will ever get as close to perfection as you see in Marilyn Monroe aka Norma Jean ! So many try to imitate her -- hoping to find something of hers that they can use -- but there will never be another Marilyn Monroe.
WOW!! She is SO beautiful and she performs just as well live as on screen! WOW, she is truly legendary with a true, raw beauty. Thank you for sharing, this was super cool!
Truly beautiful she flew halfway around the world stood in the cold an gave all of herself to the soldiers Supernova
