I love seeing her play an intelligent, emotionally stable character. She was often typecast as a dumb blonde, and people thought that's how she really was. But she was actually very intelligent.
This is a charming scene, for many reasons. First, she's not totally glammed up as she usually was, so along with the spectacular outdoor background, her realistic and natural-looking clothes make her more down-to-earth. Second, she sings an innocent and simple song, very well. Third, she's interacting with a little boy instead of an adult man. All of this is very different from the more familiar Marilyn movie appearances.
I saw a scene from her final unfinished film (later made as "Move over darling" with Doris Day. In it she returns from.having been lost at sea for 5 years and meets her children, they not knowing who she is. Marilyn's interaction with the children is coming straight from the heart.

Interesting Marilyn really learned the guitar cords and sings very pretty. I think she was a better singer than some people give her credit. The songs were limited in most of her comedy style movies but she has a lot of range and can hit high notes. I love her soft voice. Besides all of the other things about Marilyn, I've always loved the way she talks. She had a very unique voice. No one talked, or talks like Marilyn. She truly was one of a kind. And I wasn't even born when she made this film.
I saw this picture in 1954 when I was age 8! Even then, I knew that Marilyn Monroe was an unusually beautiful & unique actress! Years later, 1994, my wife & I went to Jasper, Canada, on a driving trip & went into the hotel where Robert Mitchum & Marilyn Monroe stayed while filming "The River of No Return"! After leaving the hotel, we saw the only "triple rainbow" that we ever saw in our lives, engulfing the entire town! That whole area is awesome & should not be missed!
This was great... I love marilyn with her country look. (She probably wouldnt agree because she wasnt like that) but she even made white sheets look elegant!

My mother took me to see this movie when I was a little girl. It made a great impression on me. I kept singing the theme song about the river of no return while I reenacted her scenes in our basement. The Misfits with Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe is quite memorable. The scene where Marilyn Monroe bounces the rubber ball connected to the paddleboard was another scene I tried to reenact as a nine year old. I believe that was Clark Gable’s last movie. Mom also took me to see the memorable movie Niagara with Joseph Cotton and Marilyn Monroe. Thank you mom for introducing me to the world of cinema. Thank you Marilyn for your wonderful contribution to the arts.

There is a reason why most of the older directors and producers and actors and actresses always come and say that they had more freedom back then than they do today because today you're actually told that you have to be a specific way it's why audience's hate modern movies.
@@EternalFlameOfGod what I mean in my comment is that she wasn't allowed to explore her talents in film hence why she created "Marilyn Monroe Productions" trying to break the typecasting of dumb blonde/damsel in distress role. and don't insult my intelligence please because I have studied Hollywood and its system and agree with you that modern movies compared to last centuries are dreadful in story telling and production and I don't see Hollywood as glamorous it makes hell look like the Palace of France all that fake-ness and behind the scenes abuse im glad to not be a celebrity in the modern world let alone the old one.
@@charlessoutherton8946 I agree that she definitely didn't want to play the dumb blonde character, but I would disagree with this idea that women back then ever really cared about whether they played the Damsel in distress or not. It's a modern phenomenon, only modern people say that women back then were complaining about not being able to play the hero. Women back then just wanted to tell good stories, Doris Day is famous for literally saying "I just want to make people laugh and cry like a good actress.". I do apologize if you feel like I insulted your intelligence. But there is absolutely a difference between old Hollywood and new Hollywood and it's not even close. Most old school actors and actresses had fun today people are depressed.
@@EternalFlameOfGod thats fine, sometimes comments can be misinterpreted but I also agree the massive difference. nowadays people are wanting to play the victim or the high vibing ego which is all empty energy that has no relevancy or relatability to the enjoyment of watching film/tv or creating nostalgic memories with stories worth telling.
@@charlessoutherton8946 I can't really ever watch Modern films. I prefer 40s-50s films. I do also like some 80s-90s and 00s but it depends. I think the worst 2 eras were the 60s-70s & 10s-20s.
Marilyn with long hair & jeans looks stunning! 😻
Good grief, she's actually playing that guitar. Her finger placements are correct.
I’ve heard rumors she insisted on learning the part to make it as authentic as possible. Don’t know if it’s true or not but still cool to think about
true, i play guitar too, wow didn't lnow she knew it
dynodish she was multitalented. Definitely an underestimated actress of her time.
She’s so talented
Her bass line with her thumb and chord placements are bang on so shes definitely playing the tune that matches the soundtrack.
Perfect landscape for a perfect beauty!!! Immortal
Interesting Marilyn really learned the guitar cords and sings very pretty. I think she was a better singer than some people give her credit. The songs were limited in most of her comedy style movies but she has a lot of range and can hit high notes. I love her soft voice. I can imagine her doing a jazz/pop style album in the later 60s like Anne-Margret or Diana Dors did. She could do anything she was so talented, she always reminds me of Dolly Parton . God bless her.
Over 30 songs total in her movies. How's that limited?
@@Badfingerbabe777 i know who Diana Dors was. I thought you were a bit naive in your statement. Had she lived, her career was destined to expand. But it is what it is. Most movies back then were light hearted. The music reflects it. She would've been given more serious parts but singing and musicals are generally not serious movies. So again, this is all we have, but she did have some good tunes that I thought she showed a lot of talent singing in some movies
So that's really her singing? She sounds amazing!!
exactly you are spot on - I like Dolly Parton because of her style, her turbo tramp style and her talent, same goes for Ann- Margret - all this nonsense sexy girls have no talent - Dolly Parton even sings about Jesus and moves a whole gospel church!
Yes, she was pretty and had a few skillsbut Iwouldn't compareherto Dolly Parton because Dolly ismore than just a prettyface and petite pretty figure that camefrom a hard life and could ding and play. Msny prople don't realise it but Dolly Parton has written a lot of famous modernsongs that other famous modern singers sang as major hits. You justcannotcompare these two women. The only things they have incommon are being blonde, attractive,in showbiz and coming from humble poorbackgrounds. Marilynis the prettiest but I think Dollyis the more artisticallygifted one.
Wow is that her playing the guitar! Marilyn is such a legend!
She Really can Sing, sounds Lovely 😍😘🌷💘
Some like it hot
And play the guitar which is more important.
No matter what she's doing, singing, dancing, walking talking or posing, Marilyn never fail to leave me sitting speechless... Truly Hypnotizing.
Thanks for posting this... '"💖"'
I love her jazzy voice. Nice to see her in jeans.
This is honestly her best look of all time
Was that fake hair?
after the movie she said Robert mitchum was a gentlemen never tried anything with her never said anything dirty he was like a brother and Robert said I never would have guessed she could act like that shes the best actor I ever worked with he also said there was no pressure own this movie the director never got mad and told all of us to take your time enjoy yourself he said we all felt comfortable a matter of fact we finished the movie a week ahead of time because no pressure
During the shoot of this movie, these two persons were constantly in quarrel with each other............
Commas would have been great
@@tvoommen4688 Where do you get that information? Sounds like gossip.

Can we all just talk about how beautiful she looks with long hair.
What an amazing voice. I loved her hair long. Xxxx
I love her hair long to😍💖💖💖
Such a soothing voice.
It's like she came back to the 1950s from the 1980s with her hairstyle, lol.

None of the above, and sorry you feel that way.
Definitely playing the guitar. She had so many talents.
There's this book I'm reading where some of the chapters talk about multiplying your God given talents and gifts I'm a big believer that while in your mother's womb her mom either had things spoken over her so whatever things that were spoken to her mom it resignated to Ms Norma Jean now she dropped out of high school so that may have held her back but back then the war was starting and from what I take she's working at some factory out in California I do believe also that everything happens for a reason Romans 8:38 All things work together for the good to those who are called according to his purpose people may read that and think what's this got to do with my career I believe we're shaped by the situation we experience we go through or face things happen for a reason while at times with Monroe you wonder why things like that happen to someone like her temptations were real for her so she had no structure surrounding her
Besides all of the other things about Marilyn, I've always loved the way she talks. She had a very unique voice. No one talked, or talks like Marilyn. She truly was one of a kind. And I wasn't even born when she made this film.
@Griffith Williams what do u mean?
So, you were not born when this was made. What is your point.? Most people have seen movies that were made before they were born. No big deal.
Michelle You seem like a nice person.
She doesn’t get enough credit. She’s not just a pretty face.

Love her here. She seems more real and down to earth. Beautiful voice too!!!
The mother wS stark raving mad. You think she should have stayed with a lunatic? 🤔
Legend M.M. is so beautiful with long hair too. Love this movie too 💖💞🦋🌹

I saw this picture in 1954 when I was age 8! Even then, I knew that Marilyn Monroe was an unusually beautiful & unique actress! Years later, 1994, my wife & I went to Jasper,
Canada, on a driving trip & went into the hotel where Robert Mitchum & Marilyn Monroe stayed while filming "The River of No Return"! After leaving the hotel, we saw the only "triple
rainbow" that we ever saw in our lives, engulfing the entire town! That whole area is awesome & should not be missed!
She’s just so incredible. So special and unique. Such a beauty and talent. Love her forever ❤️
5:35 just jaw dropping and unbelievably beautiful! The background, cinematography, music score, and acting is quite haunting and gorgeous!
This was great... I love marilyn with her country look. (She probably wouldnt agree because she wasnt like that) but she even made white sheets look elegant!
Or a potatoe sack.
I've seen her wearing medical scrubs with undone hsir, no makeup, bare feet etc. and she still looked stunningly gorgeous.
Shes so gorgeous and good voice .
love her acting here!!
Old movies actress and actor acting were very professionally then today... I love Marilyn Monroe ❤️ i always keep my phone lock background and home background pic of Marilyn Monroe cuz i miss her. Marilyn Monroe is a part of world history
Marilyn was awesome here. Just love her!
She was so beautiful. One of my favorite actresses and someone I've always loved. This is always how I like to remember her.
This is the first movie I saw as a 5 year old kid at the drive in back in the 50’s.Its been my favorite movie of all time.I know it’s just a B western but when I saw her up on that giant screen for the first time even as a kid I couldn’t believe how beautiful she was.I love her singing.I think the Hollywood studios missed out on her singing ability they were to busy trying to make her look like the dumb blonde.I wish she would have made a lot more records back in the 50’s.I really thought when she recorded Kiss from Niagara that it should have been big on the radio but the studio did not promote it.The good lord definitely broke the mold after he made her. There is no woman in Hollywood that has ever come close to her.Never will either.
Great story. There will never be the likes of Marilyn in cinema ever again. She is a True movie legend.
Dam long hair intelligent role,
They should have used this more.
She’s gorgeous here, love the acting too.
Sad Hollywood destroyed this look for another
Most people won’t come to understand the full depths and range of talent Marilyn or should I say Norma realy had.Rest in peace Normy we still love you.😔🙏🏻❤️
She legally changed her name to Marilyn Monroe on February 23rd, 1956, so I guess she ended up identifying more as Marilyn Monroe.
wow shes amazing!!!! beautiful!!!!
She looks gorgeous !
I love Marilyn Monroe and im a big fan of Marilyn Monroe period baby
Yeah!♡
Marilyn was wonderful in this movie. Actually in any movie. All woman right there.
shes just an angel...a true angel. talented, smart, nice. perfect
This is my favourite Marilyn Monroe film! Absolutely love the fact that she has long hair and love the fact she’s wearing jeans and shirt. I’m inspired by that look today. Marilyn ur soooo beautiful inside and out. ❤️💋.
So beautiful... She was an angel! 😢❤
'Beauty is only skin deep'? She was beauty to the bone!
Voice of an angel
She is very natural here!
😍💗She was such a tender, loving and fragile soul.
I love her acting here.
What about her singing?
jeez, how beautiful is that, doesn't even seem real
She suits the denim cowgirl look so much :) She was a good actress and naturally pretty before fame ....she didnt need the eye lifts and the nose/jawline surgeries ...makes me sad whether she felt she needed them or was coerced into having them.
WeAreAllNeo Marilyn never had eye lifts or jawline surgeries, just her nose and chin. And she was naturally beautiful
this movie was shot after those thought...
NeoScota Oh please! I hate the silly stories that biographers made up. Half the surgeries she supposedly had didn't even exist when she was alive! The x-rays someone produced saying it was proof of MM's, surgeries had another woman's name on them. There's literally NO PROOF she ever had any work done, only rumors... repeated again and again and again. Sigh.
@@Father-Nature I was a nurse in surgery and theatres, and can see she had work done. No doubt put under pressure from the film bosses.
@@whiteeaglewarrior Oh, you can "see" can you?! Thank you for your professional opinion on someone you've never met yet alone even examined close up! I thought someone in your profession would prefer EVIDENCE rather than salacious conjecture from gossipy biographers. Side by side her Norma Jean pics look the same as MM ones aside from make up, hair and lighting.
NOW i get why my grandfather loved her so much
Her singing was amazing here!!!
She's really so talented.
Not only beautiful, but she can act ,danse and sing with sweet voice.
And play guitar 😙😍
This is my favorite Marilyn Monroe movie.
Gorgeous marilyn 💐
She would have made an excellent mother. Gone 2 soon....
You never know, she may have been a great mom...especially because of her troubled childhood was difficult.
Women can be parents, but they can do other things too,
There's compelling arguments for both sides. But no one is perfect. I just wish she had a shot.
She could have been great at lots of things. This is 2020. Women are accomplishing all kinds of great things. I have never heard anyone say that a male actor would have been a great dad.
@@Michelle-pn9xt I'm not sure that is what they are saying, you may have taken an innocent comment out of context. It's well documented that Marilyn dreamed of becoming a mother and had several miscarriages. Of course, this was a movie and they are actors, but it seemed she had a very warm, friendly attitude towards the child. Jermecia was simply saying it's too bad that Marilyn didn't get her wish of becoming a mother because she seems to do well with children. I am sure if it was a male actor who was well documented of wanting children, but it didn't happen, and then that actor passed away, people may indeed say the same. No one is taking away from her accomplishments.
Absolutely wonderful in every way, this woman; has continued to teach us long beyond her life, just too smart too big too good too hurt for the rest of us. How can people admire someone like Elizabeth Taylor, when there's Marilyn Monroe in mind.
Happy Birthday Marilyn. That was just fantastic.
I never even knew she sang or played a guitar! Well I like it!😃👍
I'm crying watching this 😔
She is really an icon and inspiration to all women. Everyone want to be like her, but no one can be as beautiful and sexy like her
She was amazing! My god blessed the big screen with this angel!
She was beautiful in this movie but The Seven Year Itch will always be my favorite😍
@Marilyn Cwik Excellent recommendations, but you forgot Niagara. Rose Loomis is one of the great screen characters largely because of the way Marilyn acted her.
@Marilyn Cwik I love How To Marry A Millionaire as well. Marilyn had wonderful comedic timing as Paula. I feel like The Seven Year Itch didn't give Marilyn anything to do, the character was only there to be lusted over by the older married guy.
Singling out a favorite movie is tough. She was so good. I feel that comedy is her Gift. She is a truly funny lady. So I must say that she Owned the part of Lorelei to absolute perfection. No One could have done that better, No One. I like her movies, even the ones that did not do great at the box office; she still shines!!!
I have to say.... Marilyn.... never paid too much attention to her.... but she really was quite spectacular actually
Never seen any one looked like her she had unique feminine beauty person and beautiful rounded forhead and thick curley
Marylyn looks and sounds so sweet playing the guitar. It is wonderful footage of her, when times were more simple and life was so wonderful, so sad that all changed for her.
