I have been trying to understand building my GTO strategy for a long time and one of the things I always struggled with was range advantage. The way you described the range advantage at roughly four minutes into this video was eye-opening for me and finally pulled it all together. Thank you!

Loved seeing you go into exploitative incentives with the node-locking feature. It’s really instructive to (as you have said) develop a hypothesis, adjust the parameters to test the hypothesis, and then learn oodles both about what motivates Pio and how to profitably deviate from equilibrium. If Larsen isn’t betting optimally, Linus shouldn’t raise optimally. Great vid.

I like the pace of your analysis. I think it's worth noting that QJ only has 58% equity OTF. And i agree that OOP's range is doing well on this flop relatively speaking. One more thing I want to point out is that QJ is blocking a lot of the hands it needs protection from (KQ-AQ, QTs) so it seems like a good X back candidate

I have one question on the turn: pio do prefer a full pot bet with AJ combos containing ace of diamond because it blocks nut flush draw in linus shoes. Some how sounds to me strange because this large bet could value this nut flush draw on the turn. So if we somehow block one part of the calling range that we want to value/ protect , i don't understand easily the choice of the solver. Thank you.

I think the reason for the check behink on the flop is so you can have top pair in your range on some runouts. QJ is the worst Q LL 3 bets presumably so it makes the best hand to balance.
great video, really appreciate it. I think preflop ranges could be slightly changed, but I understand thats difficult. personally I'd add more strong suited broadways, stronger Ax that have two overs (A6, A7, A8s,) vs low pocket pairs

I have Pio and you only need 2 things. A decent proceasor (i5, preferably a new gen i7) and at least 16GB RAM. I had 8GB when i bought Pio but when you work with wide ranges it wont be enough.
I would get 32gb ram. I have to trim inputs especially when the ranges are wider.

on the turn, you say the EV of calling vs raising run pretty close together. where do you see that in PIO? great vids, thanks!
If you look at the right hand of the solver there is a button for "Strategy + EV". After you click that, you can put your mouse over the holding you want to analyze and in the bottom right hand corner it will show up in the matrix, showing the EV of each possible option.

Why is the solver betting bigger more frequently with the A of diamonds (when holding AJ)? My first thought was to bet bigger with the other suits, to get value from Axdd. Or is it for some kind of pot control to bet bigger less frequently with the other suits? If Axdd hits, you won't lose that big of a pot?? Thinking out loud

Do you generally lose a significant amount of EV by simplifying to a call-or-fold strategy IP? Is this true on both the flop and turn?
I think Pio went for a raise OTR with QJs makes more sense when we see how the hand was played out and what LLinus possible ranges are. A raise OTR can represent a strong flush or a full house. LLinus did 3bet, so his nutted hands are: K♦Q♦, 99, Q♦10♦, 66, even 9♦10♦ on the lower end to balance weaker suited connectors to 3 bet range. While i can see how the smallish bet on the river seems like strong, from my live experiece it's like a weak value/blocker bet. Exactly the type of hand i expect from Dan, trips, strong but still vulnerable. So Dan is probably still fearing a strong raise, which like Pio suggests, would work in getting Dan to muck his strong but vulnerable trips.

I think an argument could be made. I know that for pokersnowie, when a person is 3bet in later positions, AJo is called, but if its in earlier position, then pokersnowie will advise to fold.

Does Pio only consider EV in chips? If so, then raising the river might be ok in cash games, but in tournaments it's not good.

6:12 - i do not understand how having Ad makes you want to bet larger. Wouldn't unblocking Ad make you want to bet larger as you can target that part of his range? Or is the assumption that Linus would fold AdX vs a large bet on the turn here -- meaning that a large bet actually targeting Jx / combo draws?

Have you considered putting this behind a subscriber wall where you have to pay to see it. You might not have many people willing to pay to watch it but those of us that are serious enough about poker to want to watch it in the first place would likely pay to see it. This is prime content for serious players.

Why would Pio Solver like a pot size bet on the turn if you have the ace of diamonds? If they have flush draws it makes your equity a lot higher, so you want them to have them. Bigger bets will force those hands out sometimes. Unless it makes them jam a lot after that bet too? Also let me know if I can message you some questions about hands would be great.
Holding the Ace of diamonds gives you more equity because it blocks a number of Linus' flushes which have decent equity against trip jacks. I agree that if Linus has a flush draw it would make it more likely for Linus to call on the other hand, but I think in this spot after the checked flop, PIO is focusing more on building the pot so it emphasizes the equity advantage over whether or not your opponent has a hand that can call. Also its a 3b pot so Linus should not have junk here.

Confused at 6:15. PIO favors having Ad for a pot size bet as he blocks NFD. However, my faulty thinking is that if he is blocking the NFD, he should favor betting smaller as he dominates the other range more and there is less to deny from. How am I wrong here? Thanks, great video as always.
you're not wrong at all. blocking Ad means you should in fact bet smaller, or with a smaller frequency, since less combo's that you beat can call you now. So i do not agree with the statement that that is the reason to bet big; i'd even say it should be the exact opposite. but yh, pio decides through whole ranges, not just single hands, so that EV for both players equals around 0.
I think it does make sense in some situations to bet larger when not holding the flush blocker because it makes it more likely that your opponent has a flush draw that will call a large bet. Understanding what PIO is doing with blockers/unblockers is one of the trickiest things because I think there are so many variables involved, PIO will use them differently depending on the situation.
Is It GTO Im not sure If you thought that the combo were talking about had or did not have the Ad. It looks like you make a counter argument as if we said that it makes sense to bet bigger with the Ad in our hand. But If not the case, then all of us are on the same line; that we should bet smaller Because villain can have more fd combo’s, which was not in line with What Pio wants to do most of the time
Pio is saying to bet bigger. I am just speculating on the reason why. Perhaps holding the Ad is viewed as less risky justifying a bigger bet in a 3b pot and with the flop checked. However the EVs of all the options are very close so I wouldn't get too caught up on it.

I don't get how he choosed the initial range for Larsen. He says it comes from snowie but in no world preflop snowie advisor gives such a large range for an UTG calling vs a HJ 3bet. Calling 65s oop? Cmon. I probably missed smthing ? Plz someone explains :-p

I don't think it was a bluff, its just high up in the distribution when blocking the flush and also Linus should not have too many full houses either so trips with top kicker is close to nuts

I think you could fold, but I dont think calling or raising are bad options either. QJs can be dominated but it also has good postflop playability. Seems if you fold all QJs to a raise from MP (6 max), you can be exploited.
@@FindingEquilibrium oh i didnt realise it was 6 max. i assumed it was 8-9 handed. but i dont really see you getting exploited, the utg raiser would have to be raising a huge % vpip and then you can adapt your range accordingly. i dont mind flatting or 3 betting qj suited in position vs opener but i just mean losing the minimum is to get out preflop for free with literally 0 chips invested.
how wide does the solver say you should be opening 6 max this deep?
you said the solver checks 99% of its range here? to me that makes no sense i would be betting closer to 99% of my range when taking the lead in position in a 3 bet pot. this is standard poker theory you can literally 3 bet any 2 cards at the correct frequency but you have to fire a high % as they are going to miss the flop more than 50% of the time. that was old school logic anyway.
Why can't he have AA/KK? Does he 4b 100% with them?

so Linus has PIO completely registered in his brain, a photographic memory seems to be required these days, the edge getting slimmer and simmer.
He’s checking qj because it’s low in his range and he can’t bet 3 streets with this hand

River brings the Flush besides all the other Hands he could lose to. How could he raise that river would be more interesting question. Just call is just right, nothing above it.
And yet the solver says to bet - i think because the pot is relatively small (no bet on flop, .5p bet on turn and .24p bet on river). I think if you play passive any time a flush gets there you are losing a lot of EV in the long run.
But if you raise here you only get called by better hands. Which worse hands would call here besides J 10 suited, recognizing pre flop action?
Solver says to call a raise with many two pair hands. If you don't call, you are overfolding and your opponent can print money by bluffing you.

I'm just the messenger. PIO says to pot it, probably because the flop was checked and its a 3b hand so the solver is more focused on building the pot with more equity.

of course everything is considered in context. i never said always bet with flush draw blocker. we are talking about this particular context.
