Possibly one of the most astonishing video i've seen on precision wood working. This level of skill is quite abnormal, really. Thank you for sharing this. You got yourself a well-deserved sub.
I'm not even a fan of woodworking in general, but I will always stop what I am doing to watch a master ply his or her craft. There's something very engaging about it.
Now this is the kind of gift I would gladly receive , what a lovely thing and a joy , knowing someone used their time and talented woodworking skillset to create something beautiful. The world needs people who take their valuable time to give into it , not take from it with worthless pursuits. Thankyou for uploading this , you and people like you make me happy. :)
Film perfection IMO. Perfect lighting, music, and camera work. This, added to such incredible woodworking skill, makes for a mesmerizing effect. More please!!
Beautiful video! Liked all the little details you included, the cat, the slow pace and the workshop sounds, the music and looking at your tools. And liked the lovely box that emerged at the end. Imagine it is for someone special. Thank you for sharing all this
Glad to see that there are sill fine artisans and that not all skills have be lost to mass production. Your video shows woodworking skills that are not taught today,Bravo.
gotta admit, normally i don't like music while watching videos like this but that was relaxing music and not normally heard. Well done. Both with the box and the music. the box came out GORGEOUS.
An absolute pleasure to watch! Watched this in x2 speed without music, then replayed in x1 and with music and was absolutely immersed. Hope to see more soon!
This is an exceptional piece of work. Watching you work was a great pleasure as I can see that you are determined to ensure that everything you do, you do to the best of your abilities. As a Japanese embroiderer here in the UK, I recognise that drive to be the best you can which comes from attempting Japanese art. Thank you.
I consider myself to be a master woodworker. Though I use alot more technology than hand tools. But this kind of workmanship blows me away. Much respect!
You sir are a master. Beautifully made and the attention to detail was wonderful to see. Simply amazing. Can't wait to see what else you make. Thank you for sharing your talents.
Very honoured to have received praise from you Peter, it means a great deal, thank you. It was great visiting your workshop, and I hope to visit again some time soon. Thank you for the outstanding service and support from you and Jim.
It's so good to see our customers work and always a pleasure to watch other makers techniques - whist taking a sneaky peak at their workshops :-) Jim was very impressed with your work and gave me the nudge to check it out. Hope to see you again soon.
@@keiyosa3404 interesting. I haven’t tried a bandsaw. I’ve been cutting mine on a bench top router table, and side cutter bits of various thicknesses, along with a jig.
Excellent craftsmanship. I watched this video after several Japanese handcraft videos and I found it fascinating to see how you used such a western technique to reproduce an eastern style box. For example, the western planes push and the eastern kanna pulls. Nothing wrong at all, just really interesting to see the differences.
Hi, thanks for the comment! I tend to use a mix of western and Japanese tools. For dimensioning the Kumiko, I use the old western plane shown as it tends to wear less of narrow stock compared to a Kanna. I use Kanna for almost everything else. Please see the sawhorse video for a few scenes where I use Kanna.
Neil Richards Ranga Pirate Thank you very much for the kind words, Neil! I have taken a quick look at a video by ClickSpring, and they are certainly very good! I’d love to at some point provide a how to video, but I don’t quite feel I’m at a teaching stage just yet. Thanks again 👍🏽
A 'how to' would be appreciated, however; keep doing what you're doing. Your woodwork on this box is the best I have seen. And your videos are a pleasure to watch. Not fancy or an overdone production. Just good old-fashioned craftsmanship. I'd be stoked if my level of ability was even half of what yours is. I look forward to seeing more of your work. On a side note, where are you located?
i think this is verry nice and respect to the guy who made it. The only Problem is that stuff like this can be easyly made with a CNC and allmost nobody will see the diffrence. Its nice to have it for your own and getting remembert to the process of manufacturing it when u look at it, but there are just a few people who would really honor the efford going in to handcrafted stuff like this and pay the Price for it.
This makes me feel bad about my own abilities lol. You have amazing skills and are a wonderful craftsman. I can only hope to reach such an elevated level of proficiency one day.
Excellent workmanship. I don't see how any could give a thumbs down to this video. Your box is a thing of beauty. BTW, I just subscribed and gave a like to this video.

@@megawetdiaper Well, I can only surmise that you are one the dislikes. I don't understand why: but to each his own.
@@johnvanderhoof1248
Lol. Perhaps Ryan sees how simple this box is to make and how much time and equipment was used to make such an ordinary item.
@@megawetdiaper hey Mr. American, it's Made In Japan. So stfu. There is always that one american who cannot accept that asians are better.

I could watch over and over again. I wish I had half of the skill needed to build such a thing of perfection.
Production quality as good as the craftsmanship. brings a tear to the eye.

This man make art with woodwork!!
That is beautiful! Thank you for posting that video.
I can’t imagine trying to cut miter key slots with a hand saw. I loved watching the craftsmanship.
Thank you. We find them to be a little nicer than table saw cut ones. We’ve done them on a bandsaw with a jig too.
