I’m experimenting with some new lighting techniques in this video. They’re not 100% dialled in yet but I’ll get there eventually. I would love to know what you think?

I'm exactly like Robert Groves and who is walking the same pathway. I too am amazed at Nick's professionalism and skill set. Yes he does has some big $$ equipment (he is a Pro) but he also has much the same gear that we have already in our smaller wood shops. Although I have been wood working for several decades, I feel I have taken a quantum leap in my skill set recently thanks to Pro experts like Nick who are putting in so much at his expense into making these YT's for us to enjoy and learn from. I'm now 1 of Nick's Patreons - least I can do to support this work. I very much doubt that I will acquire the fabulous Artistic flare Nick has - it's hard to learn that, but we can sit back and appreciate/ enjoy this side of his craft.

I think the ordinary wooden box is still a test of a craftman's skill. You need all the same skills you use to create your larger pieces. And the result? Something that is intriguing still. I love the styling reminiscent of Moderne, and the move away from the expected in the joinery. The draws with the dowels instead of dovetails - which would weaken the design theme. I love how that choice echoes the draw pulls, and their recess, and is carried through the whole piece. Repetition is legitimation of a theme, and your understanding of how to execute a design to communicate to the observer what you want is a delight. Bravo.

From one Nick to another, I prefer this style of video. I've been watching your videos for years and, in my mind, you were an artist who uses wood as your medium.
The new commentary style brings a level of human fallibility, but there are enough makers who provide that style of imperfect appeal (I'm sure we all follow that same channels).
In my mind, I had you elevated with the channels like New Yorkshire Workshop, This is My Alaska, and Doucette and Wolfe.
Btw, I'm using this particular video as a template for a jewelry box build right now!
