    The Tools & Equipment I use- kit.co/nickpedulla
    This custom made Watch/Jewellery Box is made from Walnut and Copper. The drawers are made from Tasmanian Oak with handmade Walnut dowels.
    I don’t normally build small pieces like this but it was a special build for a repeat client of mine based on a Record Cabinet I built them in a similar design.
    The entire box has been made from Walnut that comes from the same board as I wanted grain and colour continuity throughout the piece.
    The handles are made from solid copper round bar and the shadow lines have been made from custom cut copper sheet. Both have been polished and coated in a spray lacquer to prevent tarnishing.
    I’ve glued the copper sheet shadow line to a rebate in the walnut top and bottom. This presents some potential issues with expansion and contraction as the copper runs across the wood grain. There is a slight amount of flex from the very thin copper sheet although I wouldn’t totally rely on this, but from the many tests and samples I have done in the past this hasn’t been an issue as of yet.
    This piece has been designed to fit my clients watch collection. The box sits twelve watches and has a compartment to fit other jewellery like rings and necklaces.
    Standard Questions-
    - What glue do I use? Titebond 3
    - What finish do I use? Osmo Oil satin

    I’m experimenting with some new lighting techniques in this video. They’re not 100% dialled in yet but I’ll get there eventually. I would love to know what you think?

    As a lighting designer with 30 plus years experience I would say you are doing some nice lighting. If I may offer a suggestion, the lighting for the tablesaw is too frontal. Try bringing it in from the left side of camera highlighting the blade area more. Beautiful work and your shop is amazing. Cheers

      I'm exactly like Robert Groves and who is walking the same pathway. I too am amazed at Nick's professionalism and skill set. Yes he does has some big $$ equipment (he is a Pro) but he also has much the same gear that we have already in our smaller wood shops. Although I have been wood working for several decades, I feel I have taken a quantum leap in my skill set recently thanks to Pro experts like Nick who are putting in so much at his expense into making these YT's for us to enjoy and learn from. I'm now 1 of Nick's Patreons - least I can do to support this work. I very much doubt that I will acquire the fabulous Artistic flare Nick has - it's hard to learn that, but we can sit back and appreciate/ enjoy this side of his craft.

    As a novice woodworker I have some questions;
    1. What is the machine at the beginning you used before the planer?
    2. What are you spraying on the inserts/shelving at 11:10?
    Number 3 isn't really a question but I see the signs of a craftsman/tradesman on your right hand at 13:58. It looks like it got nasty for you one time 😳.

    I think the ordinary wooden box is still a test of a craftman's skill. You need all the same skills you use to create your larger pieces. And the result? Something that is intriguing still. I love the styling reminiscent of Moderne, and the move away from the expected in the joinery. The draws with the dowels instead of dovetails - which would weaken the design theme. I love how that choice echoes the draw pulls, and their recess, and is carried through the whole piece. Repetition is legitimation of a theme, and your understanding of how to execute a design to communicate to the observer what you want is a delight. Bravo.

    If you are not a woodworker, you may not know, that putting 3 dowels in rather than 2 is sooooo much riskier and such a higher level of craftsmanship. If any one of them is out by half a mm its so easy to see. And he drilled them on a press by hand... Its small details like that, that I love. This box is amazing.

    As a professional video producer and amateur woodworker, I love the amount of craft you put into both. Most videos on TH-cam are overlit with "stadium lighting". Yours is much more restrained. The light isn't wasted on the background walls. However, a 3/4 backlight opposite the keylight would provide an edge, and go a long way to separating you and your work from the background. I think that would answer the negative comments that it was too dark or hard to see quite well. Overall, the shooting is excellent, and I love that you don't waste our time with lame jokes and smash cuts to irrelevent stock footage.
