      No one will ever find baking soda in my house for any reason. People put this stuff on a pedestal.
      I put Murphy on a pedestal.
      Sorry to each their own you might say.
      If this stuff is an abrasive, why are people putting in their stomach? Have acid reflux, 2 table spoons of yellow mustard 2 hours before bedtime. No more meds for me when it comes to this.
      When it comes to cleaning? Murphy's is not an abrasive, it can be use brillo with it. However save your money with fabric softener. Murphy's in your wash will not only clean and smell great but the dryer will make them soft. Been using Murphy's over 25 years.
      Take care

      Happy your carpet is holding up fine. And since you said Hoover from 1997, I assume it’s a bagged vacuum. Older Hoovers don’t clean that great but they clean fine so there’s probably white a bit of baking soda in your carpet. But bagged vacuums generally handle fine powder like baking soda a lot better than a bagless machine. But I’m sure your motor bearings are drying out after all those years

I also replaced the brush assembly a few years ago but not for any reason other than I wanted a new one.

    The vacuum powders like Arm and Hammer sure got the smell out of my apartment. The previous tenant was a smoker, but that was not my own carpet. People also recommended spraying diluted essential oils in carpet, but have you seen those oils eat through plastic over time? Since our vacuums are mostly plastic now. Instead, I put a drop or two on my vacuum bag, or you could put a few drops on the exhaust filter. That makes your room smell nice also. Once the motor heats up, warm air is blowing through the machine and bag or filters that heats up the scented oil.

The brushroll will beat the powder out of the rug onto the floor. Then vacuum the top again. If it was actual carpet, vacuum very slowly. Maybe push the power head deep into the fibers of the carpet. Then vacuum again. In all directions. I hope his helps. And please don’t put it in your carpet again. Just use a normal carpet cleaner to freshen up the carpet. 😂

    Thanks for the demo. Yeah any kind of fine powder or ashes from your woodstove can clog up the filter of vacuums (including central vacs). If you hear that high pitch wine shut your vacuum off immediately so you don't burn out your motor. The good news is if you have a cloth filter you can clean them and even wash them and allow to dry before using again. (Also never vacuum ashes from a woodstove that has been used in the last couple days so you don't start a fire within the vacuum hose or canister. Really best to not suck up powders at all and it is worth bending over and picking up and hard objects rather than testing the vacuums ability to suck it up.

    Also what the problem is is well not a lot of people don't realize this is with a bagless vacuum cleaner when you start to suck up Carpet Fresh it seals off the filters and it makes your vacuum work harder and also a creates a lack of suction which Dustin return is forcing that carpet deodorizer deeper into your carpet because there's no suction to pull it up once the brushes agitating it out of the carpet

    • @ThePrime206
      @ThePrime206 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@johnjingleheimersmith9259 well that might be an obvious solution. However when you're still a vacuuming and you don't have suction then all you're doing is driving that granulated powder deeper into the carpet fibers. Which then starts acting as an abrasive against the carpet fibers and starts cutting the carpet fibers making your carpet wear out faster. So the best thing to do is not to put that on the carpet to begin with if you want to save your high dollar investment and not to ruin your vacuum. Cuz you can sit there and clean the filters until the cows come home and it's still not going to remove that carpet deodorizer out of the carpet

    I understand you're trying to help people, but there are some things you may not have considered.
    Don't use that much bicarbonate on such a small area. That amount should be used on a carpet in a large living room.
    If you pour it straight out of the box, it will have a tendency to go on the carpet in globs (I can't think of a better word...sorry). If you can, pour the powder through some sort of sieve so it will flow to the carpet in a more even and thinner flow...but you still have to be careful because it can still come out in globs. The bigger the gobs the more difficult it will be to vacuum it out of the carpet.
    Yes bicarbonate it an abrasive. So is dust, feet, pet hair, and anything else that can be rubbed into, onto, across, etc a carpet or rug. The act of vacuuming is more abrasive than the powder itself. Never stand on a vacuum while the motor is in use. It will destroy the motor, wear the bristles down to nubs, and take away years of use from your carpet.
    There are many grade levels of pile that make up a carpet or rug. You must take in account what that level is and adjust how you clean it from odors or stains. There are many different materials a carpet or rug is made of from synthetic to wool as well as the thickness. The variables on how they are made should be considered before putting anything on a carpet.
    Even with the most expensive of machines, that act of vacuuming not only sucks up the powder but it will also push a certain amount down due to gravity and how the bristles work.
    Baking Soda or bicarbonate has always been known to absorb odors. That's why it is suggested that you leave a box in the refrigerator. When it seems as if it no longer helps with bad odors, you take it out the box and replace it. In other words, you want a certain amount of powder to stay in the pile to help absorb odors. By vacuuming once a week or so will take all you will want out if you observe the above considerations.

      Your whole comment in the most basic way said that using baking soda on your carpet is a good idea. So focusing on the main point of your comment, you are simply incorrect. You can ask many vacuum and carpet experts and they will all say the same thing. As for standing on your vacuum to get it all out, I never said I recommend doing that. I simply did it in this video to show how much is still left in this carpet. As you can see I film this in a setting where I can do experiments and give the best information out there. Well, my carpets should be thread bare by now and my Shark toast. I do this weekly and I want a residual amount under my wall to wall carpets. Carpets are twelve years old, still in decent shape. My Shark is six years old and I've never changed the hepa filter because it's fine. Getting new carpets soon because of six cats and a dog. All of my appliances last well beyond the toast date because I take care of them. I use a dusting container to disburse the baking soda so it is a light dusting. Not dumped on the carpets. Keeps the carpets clean & fresh smelling. I don't use the Carpet Fresh 'cause added chemicals and I have pets. When my vacuum breaks I'll let you know. The entire house has been cleaned like this when I am not doing a deep clean which is every 6 months. I guess there is a point to this. What it is I am not sure. Let's face it vacuum cleaners aren't what they used to be. All are garbage. I was raised with a Eureka that would make salt jump from 6" away from the vacuum and yes it was tested against a Kirby my brother in law was selling and the Eureka won hands down. Of course everything is just junk today. No longer made in the USA. We picked up vomit with the Eureka and my mother was furious but it did the job. It just smelled bad until she took it apart. Needless to say we can all tear a vacuum apart today and put it back together thanks to the vomit. We never need repairs for vacuums just the parts.

    Hey so i’m in need some advice.. i had a box full of baking soda on my mattress and i started vacuuming it up but then two minutes in it just turned off, i emptied it and plugged it back in but it stills wouldn’t turn on so im guessing something is clogged so i probably cant use it anymore, and the same happened again with my old vacuum i used. but i’ve only got about half a box full of baking soda on my bed now.
    do you have any tips/solutions on how to remove the baking soda from my mattress?
    or a type of vacuum i could purchase that won’t end up stopping?
    could i get it steam cleaned with the baking soda still on it or would that damage the cleaner too?

      I find it interesting that the vacuum shut off. Maybe it overheated. Try to make sure there’s no clogs or statin on the motor and try again once the vacuum cools down. A vacuum that won’t clog when you do this would be a Dyson. Especially a Dyson upright. They wouldn’t clog. Something cheaper would be a shark. But the shark will clog easier than the Dyson. As long as you’re not sucking up a ton at once. It should be fine. Something you could try is to maybe out a sheet on the ground and then stand up the mattress and beat it. Or use a large piece of plastic. Either way. You could try to beat most of the baking soda out and use the vacuum to suck up the very little bit that’s left over. Give my tips a try and please report back. I would love to know how it goes

      If the carpet was severely soaked the best option would be replacing. The water got through the carpet and into the underlaying pad. Getting smells out that deep down is near impossible. If replacing just isn’t an option. I recommend using a carpet cleaning machine. If none of those are an option. Use carpet powder. Not baking soda. Both are bad for you carpets but baking soda is a lot worse. Just make sure to vacuum the area very very well and make sure you do the powder when the carpet is dry. I hope this helps.

      Best way is to clean your carpet with a carpet cleaner machine. Like a water extractor machine. Decent ones can be found for $120-$250. They will remove stains and make the carpet smell great. If you’re on a budget or you’re just cleaning g a small space, there are ones you can get or about $90. But they don’t have any fancy features and they won’t work for large spaces. The money you spend on a carpet cleaner will well worth it. Because if you have a Stain, you can clean it right then and there without waiting. Your carpet will last much much longer and look much better.

    bc you're supposed to put the baking soda on then shampoo the carpet, only a dingus would try to vacuum up baking soda it would just get everywhere...my grandmothers carpets are plush & she has them steam cleaned every 2 years. she shampoos her carpet in between with unscented baking soda and its a beautiful white color. she does this bc of boys & pets. there arent any patches or anything from what youre saying, probably bc she does it the right way. you have to shampoo it out otherwise of course it would stay in the carpet. i always dreaded going to my aunts bc she wasnt the smartest and used baking soda refresher powder on her carpets constantly bc she was a smoker. its discusting and smells of fake flowers. as kids we would run on the carpet in our socks and it would make our feet super sensitive bc baking soda burns your skin if its in high amounts. also had a bad habit of giving me hives and cracked heels. i dont agree with carpet powders as there is no sense to them at all its literally buying something to throw it away, and they just create more allergies like contact dermatitis, and just..sit there in your carpet sucking up all the nasties creating a breeding ground. ew.

    Yikes, can't believe how many people got taken in by this video.... It's HIGHLY subjective (no absorbing time, sloppy vacuum technique, no measurements of extracted baking soda, etc.); and most carpet dry cleaners are not the same as baking soda, they're a cellulose-based "sponge" with chemical detergents, not sodium bicarbonate. If you want to watch someone who really knows what they're talking about, look up the Vacuum Facts channel. This guy ^ is ignorant at best. And for the record, I was a professional steam carpet cleaner for 7 years, and recently switched TO micro-sponge cleaning (HOST, Capture, Zorb) because it's superior in almost every way. The only reason it's not more popular in the US is, basically, successful marketing on the part of steam-cleaning companies.

      @DillonCleans  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You were a professional carpet. Cleaner for 7 years and you think a guy that recommends $800 cordless vacuums for all uses is the person you should listen to? That’s funny. I’ve also been working with vacuums for nearly double that you cleaned carpets for. I think I know what I’m talking about. You saying baking soda is different from carpet powder is absolutely correct. But the demonstration being done here was to show that no matter what fine powder you put down, your vacuum can’t remove all of it. And even if it removes a decent amount of it like to should, you should know that it’s bed for your vacuum. Because it can clog your bag and strain your motor. Or go through the bad and destroy your motor is you don’t use HEPA bags. Or it could get past the cyclonic system and permit or filters and bagless machines and. Destroy it that way. Please know what you are talking about before writing a mean comment. And as a word of advice that ever single person who knows something about vacuums cleaners will tell you, don’t listen to vacuum facts. If you ever have any questions about anything you could always ask. But if you comment disrespectfully you will get a reply back matching your energy. Have a nice day.

      You can rent a machine to clean your carpets with from places like some grocery stores and hardware stores. You can also try spraying slightly diluted vinegar on your carpet. The smell of vinegar won’t stay in the carpet. But it will eliminate odors. I have recommended this to people and people have had good results. The powder will make your carpet smell good, it will just ruin your vacuum overtime and ruin your carpet over time. But I highly recommend that everyone with carpets buys a carpet shampooer so you don’t have to always rent one and you can have it for whenever you need it. It will also get the carpets nice & clean. not just kills odors.

The top 3 carpet cleaners for me are the bissell 2x revolution pet pro. Bissell 2x revolution. And the Hoover smartwash. I have the Hoover smartwash but all 3 are good options. The bissells clean a little bit better but the Hoover is more convenient. The bissell 2x revolution pet pro is slightly more premium to the 2x revolution but I would get the 2x revolution because it’s a little cheaper. All 3 also have a hose so you can do stairs and upholstery. The smaller carpet cleaners don’t have that. That one that you picked out is ok. I just think you would be better with these 3 options. Hope this helped.
