    I agree with you about the slipper clutch holding the power fine. I have set mine up with CBR cams, airbox mods and a tune, and after 12,000km even with rally racing abuse at 9,000-10,000 revs all day... it still works fine.

    Jake, the 300 uses a 38mm throttle body, a crf250rx uses a 44mm. The new KTM 125 2 stroke has a bigger throttle body than the crf300l. At some point your gonna have to address the choke point.

    Am looking forward on the coming up videos for the new mods, I also have the black widow exhaust on my 300l and yes it was kind a loud, my first and least expensive solution was to put a silent kit from the wings exhaust that they make for the KTM 690 Enduro and that made it quieter so for now am happy with it.

    Interesting about the piston bore. The klx has had big bore kits going all the way to 351 for years that have a good reliability record if I'm not mistaken. I'm guessing maybe the piston is somewhat taller? That would make it harder for the piston slap to occur.

    People always bring up reliability. Compared to the 70’s, reliability is not much of an issue. Electronics, building tolerances, limp modes, over rev protection, etc., make all vehicles reliable

    • @Firestorm637
      @Firestorm637 ปีที่แล้ว

      Horsepower from the factory obviously more reliable. If it was designed from the factory with turbos is one thing vs you bolting on a turbo and doubling the horsepower.

  • @johannescarlsson4559
    @johannescarlsson4559 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wished you put the Bill blue 305 kit on it, that would be even more power 😉

  • @Firestorm637
    @Firestorm637 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oversquare vs undersquare balance. Rpm x torque = horsepower although there is a number above to compensate /constant. More internal internal inertia. Once reason Ferrari/Lambo like multi small piston/small liter engines, ie V12’s.

  • @DmenDuroRider
    @DmenDuroRider ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nikasil bore that will keep the reliability up. If you change the factory Nikasil bore to a steel sleeve/liner then you will most definitely lower the reliability. Another plus is Nikasil bores have very low friction compared to a steel sleeve. You can also get a steel sleeve bore nikasil lined. Love the build and where it going!
    EDIT: NO WAY I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT HAS A FACTORY STEEL BORE!?!?!? Hey if you plate the steel bore then you would increase reliability over stock.

    What’s the compression ratio of the new piston? I’m asking because you may actually notice a small decrease in power throughput some
    Of the rev range. The forged piston usually weighs a few ounces more than the cast piston. Which take much more umph to spool up too high rpm, however your also INCREASING reliability. Higher compression will
    Not effect reliability nor will your valves being open longer duration from new cams either. You may want to check your valve lash every 30hrs for the first 60hrs but after that you can go back to regular maintenance as usual

      Engines dont blow up, look at the components which will be exposed to the greater force produced. Connecting rods big ends take alot of the force, try to find a forged piston. New rod bearings, can you find a forged crank? Don't rev it until the engine has warmed up to prevent piston slap.

    it's possible people are having slipping issues because they treat their clutch like crap and burn up the plates.
    but you can't go accusing people of that regardless of whether it's true because then they're not a man any more and you're an arshole for even suggesting it.
    but i guarantee you, most people are never taught how to use them without abusing them.

  • @Blockbuster2033
    @Blockbuster2033 ปีที่แล้ว

    At this point I really don't see a reason anymore why you don't use a 450 RL haha. At this point it would be cheaper, easier and better, while being about as reliable. People discredit the reliability of the 450 RL, but it is actually extremely reliable. It's detuned to 43 hp and has a three-ring-piston in a motor that was designed for about 150% of that power. It's basically indistructible. On top of that, the 450 has waaaaay better suspension AND is lighter.
    I still enjoy your projects, and you also do it for the learning, but I think it is a bit of wasted energy.

    • @TheGardenSnake
      @TheGardenSnake  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "cheaper, easier and better, while being about as reliable" not really. Did you watch my video about the mods I recently did?

    • @dancarlos1216

      The 450 has a 16k mile rebuild interval or something close. Way more than I thought

    • @Blockbuster2033
      @Blockbuster2033 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheGardenSnake I haven't watched that video before, but I just did right now. Here is the thing: You're comparing the 450 RL to EXCs and Betas, but fact is, it is not comparable to those bikes. Those are hard enduro bikes with two-ring-pistons and almost 50% more power than the Honda. And even those bikes have oil change intervalls of 30 hours. If you ride them on the street, that would equate to about 1000 miles. And even with those bikes you can massively extend the oil changes. I regularily do 60 hours on my Beta. I have a friend that does oil changes about every 150 hours on his EXC and it just keeps going. He is way past 2000 hours and only just now needs a rebuild. As a matter of fact, manufacturers put conservative numbers into the manual because they don't want to be responsible if anything happens. And I'm not pulling that out my ass. My university professor is the guy that designed the Aprilia RSV Mille engine in his time at Rotax. And I regularily talk to him about motorcycle engines. (Great example of conservative numbers is Honda specifying to change the chain every 15 hours in race settings, that's about the time I ride between adjusting my chain tension... in race settings lol). There are many people that have done way over 20.000 miles on the RL without even adjusting the valves, because they are still in spec, yet Honda says that you need a full top end rebuild after 20.000 miles, complete with new valves and everything. Honda also says to replace the fuel filter every 1800 miles... I think I know nobody who has ever replaced their fuel filter... ever, and yet their bikes keep running.
      I understand that you like modifying your bike and like you said in your other video, you would have likely spent the same amount of money on the RL if you had one. But you wouldn't need to do the complicated power mods.
      Like I said before: I still enjoy your projects, I like what you're doing, I too am learning some new stuff through them. This is all just my opinion... meaning: I would have done it differently for the reasons stated above. I even considered riding around the world on a RL once, but they are hard to get here in europe these days, so I'm looking for something different.
