You and bxd were the first motovloggers I ever watched which was probably close to 8 or 9 years ago it feels like. The two of y'all still got the best content out there.
Because you've recommended it multiple times on this channel a few years ago I got myself a small compressor and a brake bleeding kit similar to yours and it is one of the best bike related investments I've ever made. Holy crap it makes bleeding brakes such a breeze. A few minutes from start to finish. Boom. Done. Perfect result every time.
on my 250 supermoto i literally thought the rear brake was broken because i had ben bleeding it like a mad man but still it would not brake att all. told my boss about it and he was like nah keep trying because bikes are a pain in the ass to bleed. so i did when i came home and kid you not i was only 3 pump cykles away from it regaining brakes
This has been an amazing series buddy! Your vid’s are the reason I ended up with a 300l. I used the same tuner from brute performance for my krx1000 and it really woke the machine up, hopefully it will do the same for honda.
I want to get a project bike now but I live in a van lol. This thing sounds beastly. Good job man! Those vacuum brake bleeders are magical. I love using mine. Makes bleeding brakes solo so much easier.
i'm about to live on the streets soon. i just kind of got abandoned few months ago and ben unable to get a job and shit. finnaly decided to go get help but they want me to sell my bike. i ain't selling my bike it's only worth 2000$ which will not get me anywhere and it's the only thing that actually keeps me from suicide right now. rather live on the streets than sell my bike.
Very NICE Build Jake, I was subbed Long time ago BUT got new Laptop and Lost all my SUBS. Just found your Channel again and I;m thinking of getting the CRF300 and putting on the Super Moto Wheels, Your Channel has given me LOTS to think about, Wales UK].
Man the bike is coming along great so far. I just wish i had the time and money to do a full rebuild on my bike and possibly have sponsors to help but I am not that fortunate.
I had the same shutting-off-problem with my XT 660. In the end, it was a bad connection on the kickstandswitch. Sometimes it worked, Sometimes it killed the engine shifting from neutral up or down, the bike thinking the kickstand was down.
Okay I got out of bikes for alittle bit but how does one of the pioneers of motovlogging have less subs the the guys following his foot steps. Is it bc they got weird and went “mainstream “ chasing them views? Either way glad your still around making content. Missed watching these.
First thing i thought of was the new oil, maybe the clutch was dragging and caused it to stall when you put it in gear. But i dont think thats it, doesnt explain the fuel pump and there wasnt any resistance on the rear wheel. There was a thing going on with third gear and not being able to start, which itchyboots experienced in the middle of the desert. Maybe it has something to do with that
With itchy her bike was “stuck” in gear cuz the shifter was slightly bent in touching the case. And wouldn’t start in gear was likely sand/dirt/slight damage from the fall interfering with the kickstand or clutch switch. She really just needed to rock the bike back and forth to get it to shift along with pulling the shifter off the case.
🤷♂️ I’m thinking it was the air idle control valve. Once I unplugged it and plugged it back in every worked. Also that valve isn’t working now. The idle never comes up when cold starting it. But I never got that 100% confirmed.
@@TheGardenSnake Thank you Jake - fixin to join the Patreon as got a CRF300L as well. Excellent videos! Like doin the mods like 1/2 the fun besides riding. Got other bikes as well but dirt/street bikes seem to be the most fun.
that was an odd issue, I wonder if the gear indicator or clutch sensor was getting hung up inside, like the bike wont start/turn over without the clutch pulled in
Well I tested both of those on both sides. Harness side and sensor side. Testing in ohms I went through all the gears and could see it going from pin to pin. Harness side I could go from pin to pin getting 12v and the gear indicator would show each gear when jumped. 🤷♂️
Very nice! I bet that thing will make around 30 rwhp when it's tuned -- maybe more. FYI, the Takegawa cam link appears to be broken -- is that the SP Takegawa Sports Camshaft No. 01-08-0056?
@@TheGardenSnake Thanks -- the one I found listed it for the CBR250R and the CRF250L, so probably the right one. I'd post a link to it but TH-cam seems to lose it's tiny mind every time I try to post a link.
I reckon it's got to make 30-31bhp at the wheel once Jake gets it Dyno tuned for optimal air/fuel ratio everywhere, and hopefully the PC will allow the ignition timing map to be modified to suit the new spec. It would be interesting to see it mapped for pump fuel and another map for a race fuel to see if there's much difference?
Not sure how the gear position sensors work on these but wouldnt be surprised if the sensor was indicaying multiple gears at once and was mucking with the 5v rail in the ecu, the way it died was much more like that as opposed to anything intentional by the ecu, wouldnt surprise me theres no check engine light on something cheaper like this, could be wrong though im more of a standalone ecu tuner, dont really touch stock ecu's
That was one of the first things I checked. Tested on both ends. Went through the gears on the sensor side testing on ohms. Then the harness side in dcv checking each pin. Jumped all the pins and watched the dash indicate each gear. Literally everything seemed fine. 🤷♂️
Jake, do you have or can you make a video showing how to bleed brakes using the brake bleeding kit? It is one of the last maintenance items I am nervous about tackling, as I feel having the brakes work properly is kinda important...
Jake my buddy has a MT10 and it goes into limp mode if he runs in in gear when it's on a stand for some reason. I wonder if you're having a similar issue. He was trying to lube the chain in gear and found out it won't let that happen
Hey man. I've had similar problems flashing my bikes and its usually the battery voltage gets close to 13.0 volts and the computer/ecu starts doing stupid things! I now run my Lipo charger while I'm flashing or changing things and I haven't had anymore crazy things happening! I'm curious if you had your bike hooked up to a tender before trying everything out again? That would of topped your battery off and eliminating a false problem.
Nice when you can't recreate a fault. We had 50 year old equipment that no-one would make changes to for fear of creating a fault in a machine with 50 relays and a gazillion wires. It won't run without gear indicator when system functioning normally?
Jake. I started watching your videos nearly a decade ago before even having a channel to be able to subscribe. I got off road bikes for a couple years and ventured into motocross. I’m wanting to swing back into road riding and am considering a super moto. What you’ve done to this bike is incredible. But I have to ask, the hp number you are chasing seems similiar to the crf450l. Is there a reason you wanted to do a 300 build over a 450l? Thanks
Having gone back a year and watching the start of this I now know. I had no idea the crazy service intervals. Riding Mx I had oil changes every other ride along with air filter cleaning every time I got home and that would just blow on a road bike you use to mess around and zip around town. Carry on lol
Did u experience any idle hunting issues ? I tried resetting the tps afterwards but still idle hunts. I have a pv3 -any way to correct this before going to dyno ?
if you love to fettle with vehicles... and keep adding stuff... it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy of having to fettle with it even more... more parts, more fettling, means more fettling to make sure all parts are working together... and if the part you put in makes it worse... more fettling!
this is unrelated to the video but i saw the rabacondo bag in the back. which one do you have and how do you like it? I've been doing it like a caveman but may upgrade to that soon now that i'm running more aggressive rear tires i'll be changine them more often

@TheGardenSnake do the Andreani front end upgrade. It is the best upgrade you can do for this bike.

I don't mind issues. But the ones that go away on their own scare me. Is it fixed or is it gonna come back at most "convenient" moment? 😅
Was it only cutting out when the remapping box was plugged in maybe it's a safety thing it won't let you ride the bike whilst it's plugged in ???
No matter what the bike sounds great. The engine start issue was the gremlin getting driven out permanently.
Question Jake - what was the fix for this you never reported ?

So I hoped you put sum anti-seize on the stainless bolts going into aluminum.
anti seize is your friend, broken bolts and stripped threads aren’t.

If it works, it works!
Was your clutch pack sticking together and causing drag on the crank? Starting it in the higher gear could've cause the plates to become unstuck.

Loose gas cap by chance? I saw you tighten and loosen it at the end of the video as you were talking.
That’s a automobile thing on certain models. Most bikes have an open breather for the fuel tank. Cap lose or tight won’t make a difference.
