    Jinjer is their own genre. They are one of the most technically sound band that mixes the amazing vocals from Tatiana which is why everyone loves them.
    Eugene Roman and Vlad are an amazing triplet

    Agreed. Nice breakdown. It's definitely a grower & it can take a while to get in to the groove of Jinjer as they have such unusual timing patterns & offbeats etc. They seem to be getting progressively more..... progressive.

    Jinjer is Jazz meets metal. The picking bass and complex rhythmic patterns remind me of improvised Jazz. The drumming style is Jazz, with the complex stick work, so is Tatiana's voice. This ban is unique and so accomplished. The best music takes a few listen's to get into it.

  • @Acekhan201

    The challenge is part of the journey. Jinjer is so loved in part because they are challenging without ever sacrificing the style of their music.

    Jinjer's real strength is their spot on transitions.. Phenomenal talented metal band. Tatiana is a microphone beast.

    To help with finding that rhythm to headbang along to, you have to find the pattern underneath the literal notes being played. Thats the time signature of the song or part of the song, that way you're not trying to headbang to every drum note or guitar/bass note, but instead are grooving along to the steady pattern underneath those notes. Think of it like walking a straight line, but sometimes you walk out to the right and then back to center line, then out left, then back to center, amd so on. Thats what bands like this are doing, you headbang and follow the straight center line, but then fill in the sounds and make them more interesting by adding those notes played around that center line.
    Also a lot of the time you can find the rhythm to headbang along by following the lead hand pattern the drummer plays. In a right handed player that would be whatever patyern their right hand is playing (generally thats a steady cymbal pattern of some kind). Listen for that, amd it'll be easier to find what to headbang to and what feel of the song is in general. The more complex the music, the more difficult this becomes though, and eventually its a matter of appreciation for the skill rather than moving your body along to it.

    Ever since my earliest music classes in elementary(primary) school I've always counted beats in my head. Be it 4/4, 3/4, 9/8... whatever. I find that and keep with it in my head. This makes headbanging quite easy, even if the melody is playing off beat. Headbang with the time signature, and strengthen those neck muscles!

    • @cyberia55

      Odd (and rotation of) time signatures is a Jinjer staple. Head banging is optional - and not required. 😈

    • @cowboy41231
      @cowboy41231 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dude same feelings here, My comment copied from another reaction video “I don’t know how to word this, but it’s most level riff, non bi-polar song I’ve heard from jinjer.. meaning it sounds like jinjer but there’s no soft to brutal tones, it’s a level metal song. I like it because it’s not normal (for jinjer). As you guys proved theres no serious tempo time signature changes and can head bang the whole way 🤘”

    • @Bwachaauh
      @Bwachaauh 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, Jinjer always use time signatures that are not from rock/blues, but rather eastern European folk music, jazz, reggae etc. So naturally it becomes a bit difficult for those that are only used to the straight 2/4 and 4/4 . Also, like most prog, they tend to switch time signatures a few times for each song.

    Jinjer is a very unique band, might be the reason I love them so much. As for this song, loved it since the first listen. Judgment and Punishment took me a few listens, but just like all Jinjer it grew on me.

    I just usually vibe to something especially if I can identify something to it whether a certain beat or whatever, To me I dont have any issues headbanging to something certain like a nice riff or drum beat or all of the instruments getting together as one. Real interested into the new album when it comes out. Alas, keep up the great work as usual Drew!

    With Jinjer, it's not a straight on back and forth headbang. Integrate some lateral movement in there as you feel the groove and it will feel much less awkward. They're absolutely brilliant.

    I’m with you there man, it always takes a couple listens of a Jinjer song for me to really get into it (except for Pisces and Teacher, Teacher). Once I’m there though I just get lost in the songs lol.
    Oh and little side note, I found myself grooving (again after like 2 listens) with the end part, the beat you had compared with falling down the stairs because of its sporadic pattern. Anyways I was grooving along just fine and I went back to check out why and what was making it so easy, it was the cymbals on the drums funny enough. I hadn’t even noticed that’s what I was following but I guess I just picked up on it without thinking after a couple of listens.

      The exact same happened to me. The last section was quite hard to follow at the first listen, but at the third listen and now I just naturally know what is happening, and I think it is the best section from the whole song!

    I loved parts of this song immediately but didn't get the structure. I had the same disconnect with "Ape" which I now love.
    Tatiana's clean vocals are so good in this, so much control, emotion and depth. I feel that she's put everything into this one.
    After four listens, it's really getting into my head. That's about standard for the more progressive tracks Jinjer have produced this year.
    After another few listens and a good think about the lyrics I will know where it sits in the pantheon; I suspect it may be one of the very best.

    Hey Drew, there is nothing more subjective that reacting to music. Every new song has to nestle itself into/between everything that has built up your 'feeling' for music, so thanks for always being curious... but why would you 'honestly not think' that Tati is 32: godesses don't care about such puny human things like age and time ;)

But then Floor is just the best singer no matter the genre.. just my opinion.. horns up!

    It’s funny you use the term “heavy groove”, because they’ve been classified as “groove metal”. It’s a thing. This song took me about 3 or four listens to really get, but once I did, the criticisms you offered became the exact reason I love it so much. As for a suggestion, “Swamped” by Lacuna Coil. Maybe “House of Shame”, also by Lacuna Coil.

  • @corrob
    @corrob 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    the time was being kept by the cymbals, while the bass drum and snare are following the bass guitar(which is common in djent style metal), the headbanging should follow the timing of the cymbal

    Don't sweat it too much. I've been a metal head for 30 years and I can tell you, a lot of metal heads head bang to the wrong rhythm. For the more basic metal, you can just follow the snare. However, Jinjer's not a basic band, so you have to find the rhythm, which means sometimes you have to listen to it a couple of times. You are doing fine. Keep it up! Cheers from Kentucky, USA!

    • @skullduggery1616
      @skullduggery1616 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is the "norm" for Jinjer - almost everything they do is hard to swallow at first, but dare listen to it again and you'll never stop!! This is the trademark of a true progressive band; they take risks nobody else will, and are talented and clever enough to pull it off. Jinjer has a VERY RARE magic indeed!! The four of them are giants walking the Earth, heart breakers and name takers!!!

    I think once you get past the odd time signatures and tempo changes you'll enjoy the music more. It usually takes me several listens to Jinger tunes before "I get it". Also I find theatrical videos distracting while performance videos make the listening insightful as to how the instruments are played.

    I personally like it only cause of the chorus. I don't headbang to the verses. Too slow for me. I can still appreciate the technicality though. There's a reason Captain Clock is my favourite. If you haven't reacted to it, then please react to the lyric video of the song. It's one of those songs that are great cause of both lyrics and instrumentals and you notice both on the first listen, and the live version is shit anyway. Sounds too muffly.
