- It feels surreal to actually be uploading this video. Ever since I strapped a turbo to my first MX5, I knew that Time Attack is where I wanted to end up. We might not be there in the car we intended (yet) but to be on track competing in a car that I own is a very special feeling.

Whilst I love the Sim racing stuff, and its why I began watching you. The IRL racing and car vlog stuff is what keeps me here years on.

Watchin from the bottom of the mountain, id say you were easily most consistently on the limit, least brakes of anybody into hall bends. Looked quick 👌
When the race car isn't quite ready so the practice car gets tapped in and slowly becomes the race car throughout the weekend. Absolutely classic watching more things get ripped off and taped up as the video progresses.
It was a great honour to race along side you in that session… see you at the next round 👍

What a heroic little car. i know it's just the stand-in because Minty isn't ready but it certainly worked it's little socks off. Little Red will always be the first car of the Team 87 garage to hit a track in anger, hope we'll see it again.
Shout out to John and the Orange Army. From go-karting to F1 and Le Mans, no racing occurs without those heroes.
Despite the car saying "no" at the end, that was some mighty fine driving.
Glad you enjoyed the weekend Jimmy, and the vid certainly brings across the highs and lows of a Time Attack event- great when you nail that perfect lap, and frustrating as hell when you get held up (unfortunately the situation with the Fiesta at 22:27 was one of those TA things with both cars on a hot lap and meeting at precisely the wrong moment).
Brands Indy is a nightmare for traffic and finding a clear run, even in the Pro classes, and you've found already that driving talent and car performance can vary wildly within the class and don't necessarily go hand in hand. We've seen some close calls with a car driving out of the pits and crossing the blend line into the path of other cars into Paddock Hill, besides the expected engine/transmission failures dropping fluids on the racing line.
Any time there is a show element (Modified Live/Tunerfest) tagged-on to the weekend you can expect horrendous traffic on the way in, so getting a hotel close-by will be vital (the one on-site at Brands is pretty decent) or you have to resort to cheekily driving past the long queue, hazards on, to get in before the masses.

N/A MX5 performs like 80s turbo F1 car - puts in best lap and then does the big die.
Loved it Jimmy. Cadwell looks like an awesome circuit for that type of motorsport.
I think the team association with Gordie Mutch is a perfect one. Jimmy is a clever and cautious driver. To finish first, you must first finish. Gordi is aggressive, and can lack caution, so where he learns that patience and control from Jimmer, he can also inspire him in return with the confidence to go harder and faster in the right places. Team87 has great balance, it's just a shame that Praga have so few race meetings, and then once at them, most cars break, but that's hyper tuned racecars that weigh about as much as a hedgehog's arse cheek I suppose. To see a sim racer show this much potential on real tracks is awesome. Keep working at it, Jimmy. If you ever fancy an entry into Mini Miglia, I'll be on it with you!. I would give my right testis to race an original Mini with 4 wheel drift capabilities 😁

I've been waiting to see this. Great job. I was in Clubman in 2017 in my NA Mazda RX-8. Similar power and weight. My best was 1:44.6 I'd still love to get back out, if life didn't keep getting in the way.

Jimmy, I want you to know that you are a hero. To see where you came from to where you are now actually racing cars is beautiful. The streamer crazy you bring to the paddock is amazing, and you're honestly quick to boot. Gives the rest of us hope that maybe, if we try hard enough we could land close to you too.
Cadwell is an awesome track, I did a 1.21.1 in my F1000 there, was the outright track record until last year. 4 wheels off the ground at 3 points on the lap. Got to say Jimmy love your content man, I used to race and have got into the sim like many over the pandemic! So cool to see your journey - congrats

The "slow" MX5 reminds me so much of Tsuchiya's Tec-Art AE86 in terms of build philosophy. Around 200 NA ITB horsepower in a lightweight RWD chassis. What an awesome, inspiring build you got there Jimmy.

I've raced in the 750mc Mr2 Championship for 14 seasons. I live in Devon . . . on the Cornwall border. And I have a race transport lorry that does 56 mph flat out. It's more like nine hours to Cadwell. It's ten or twelve to Anglesey! But there aren't any circuits in Devon so it is what it is. And I can be in my kayak off of Boscastle in half an hour from my front door so there are compensations.
Jimmy, it brings me great joy to live vicariously through your climb in real life racing. Started as a sim pleb and now you are doing it for real!

The stress of connecting all the dots when building a car is insane but it's all so worth it the first time you're tearing up the asphalt in your creation.

You're fastest lap was insanely fun to watch! Could tell you were really comfortable with the car and course by that point since you were absolutely tearing it up through the corners. Stoked to get more IRL racing content! Keep having fun Jimmy, you're killing it!

Only real improvements I could see would be to try a slower entry into T15 (hall bends) to get more exit speed into the hairpin at T17, but you're talking thousandths, maybe a tenth.

Yeah, no power steering means plenty of work. There is a reason classic sports cars had large steering wheels, and slow steering ratios. During the off-season, I once set up my 250cc Superkart's 'cockpit' with a substantially smaller wheel than what I'd been using. That took a lot of work, but I was very happy with it -- sitting in the shop. Then I went to the track with it. It was so much harder to steer, took so much more strength and effort, that I've never been so tired in my life as I was after a thirty-minute race in that thing.

There really is an art to taking care of your car enough to where you keep it together until you've set the fastest time of the day but then pushing hard enough so that when it does break it's on the other side of the start/finish line
