In my recent video about RuneScape’s rarest accounts, I mentioned the ‘ SpaceHack’ username. A strange anomaly that should not be possible. In that video, I asked if anyone knew how it was accomplished, and while there were lots of responses, none got it right. Today we uncover the ‘ SpaceHack’ username, how the owner capitalized on the exposure of my OSRS video, the history that surrounds it, and how it was accomplished.

@@RubsNL Then you're downloading a third-party app, using additional tools/apps, then capturing, then opening, then cropping, then saving and renaming, then sign into whatever app to send it to yourself first so you can save to your phone, or launch that social media app as well. The PC I use can't support doing all that. My PC can't support 2 chrome browsers or 2 osrs clients, I have no choice except to use my phone. It's much easier and your purpose of sending it to a mate is to show something very specific, so as long as you achieve that (which phone does fine) then it's ok. People send me phone shots all the time and I don't mind

I wish I seen this earlier as I owned a few space names and could of helped you with this. Ive had the "_spacer name" account for 12years. I figured it out when I seen a bot back then accidently have a dash in front of it's name and I spent a long time figuring out how to do it. It's also possible to get * in the front of your name. I was a glitch hunter back in the day so if you have question about weird stuff I probably have screenshots of it. Cool channel btw!

You can also right click the form->inspect element and remove the client side validation then put what you want in and click submit.
Rs3 has an in game name changer. It is within the 'hero' sub interface.

I remember one time this guy typed his login info and so I logged into his account, he had no authenticator. Only difference is I just messaged this guys friend and told them to get in contact with him so he can change his pw before I logged out so no one else took it. Changing the name would have been hilarious though

Im a bit confused. After the name is on the account and you've signed in on Oldschool, is it then possible to switch it to your main account without losing the space?? Worked for me btw without typing the character before the leading space.

Very interesting, just one thing. There IS an ingame name changing function in RS3, it is on the 'hero' tab in one of the many many random interfaces I am having to relearn, i'm not 100% sure that exactly where it is but been playing a little recently and have not long changed my name on there

In like 2004 or 2005 when you logged in you could replace any spaces in your name with a ? Or ! And it would show in your name down in the chat box. Though it only showed for your screen, not for other players looking at your account.

@@Twacket those aren’t even rare names. Rares are original names/wanted letter combos. This is just a neat gimmick anyone can add to their name if they make a new account
@@coler2277 It wasn't well known before this though. I agree they weren't particularly "rare" though. I'd seen several names starting with a - that went for like 20-30M on Scythe years and years ago. One was a double space name with 9HP...crazy.
I remember back in the day and maybe even still now there was an alt code which you could use to do all caps. You'd have to type the first cap letter, hold alt and type a code (I want to say it was 0151?) Then type the next letter in caps, followed by the alt code, followed by the next letter, etc. Wonder if it's got anything to do with that? I think at some point in RS3 it started inserting dashes into the chatbox

i think osrs youtubers should be more transparent when advertising VPN services.. a lot of people are getting banned on rs bc they're using VPNS. just saw on twitter an hr ago that someone got banned and a jmod replied and said it was his vpn, the location was bot farmed and flagged the system

My og runescape account has a space in the middle of it. Is that rare?

It has to be a fresh name, so if you really want a name with Space or underscore or dash infront of your name with an account that you have already played on, you'll need to name change to something inappropriate and have jagex remove your name so you must choose a new one.

yo a friend gave me an account that im pretty sure was named 11 when i was in 6th grade. i just tried to log into it and it says it is currently being protected pending restoration. I could be wrong on the name, but I have a distinct memory of it being "11" and I know for certain it was a 2 character name. Another cool thing about the account was it had 9 hp
Jagex locked alot of one and 2 letter or number names after they were hacked from there original creators. There's a market for those rare names n ppl make big money so to combat that Jagex locks those accounts once a dispute is placed by the original owner n stays locked until verified by original owner and Jagex, OneLove.
That would definitely go for some cash

@@SharpiesxD If he gets it, that's some SERIOUS cash, particularly because he can probably decently prove he's the original owner. The only issue is that name is SO valuable that you'll 100% risk getting sniped. Honestly I'd edit your comment and remove the name entirely, simply saying it's a "two letter/digit, non-gibberish name" so that some dude doesn't see this and add it to his snipe autoscript list.

back in like 2008 or 2009 the forums used to treat all multi-spaces as 1 when read in usernames, someone came into our clan discussion thread and had basically spoofed our leaders name (lets call him aaron 39) as "aaron 39" with like 3 or 4 spaces. caused a bit of chaos, runescape kinda has a weird history of treating spaces weird.
8 min runescape videos with 3 min build in ads is becoming a real trend.

in the old days you could use a # in your name to add a space, it wouldn't render in game and even in login I could replace the # with any other character and could still log in... weird times.
I added SpaceHack on a throwaway account and complimented him on his username when he happened to be online. He just pmed me a smiley face in response.

When creating a brand new account on OSRS you can actually name it starting with an underscore no problem.
Edit: just created an account this way and after logging out it removed the underscore, interesting :o

this suggests that rs3 username validity check is done clientside meaning one could probably set their names to all sorts of bogus using a custom http request.
Makes me wonder if any sort of input sanitizing is client side too...

Hey crumb nice leak, one thing you may want to check out is the mew character glitch. In recent update jagex said you can now write previously unwriteable characters into the chat. I remember there was a glitch that logged everyone out if a certain character was written. It was abused in pvp. You could try a video on that or see if with this new update there's a similar bug. §¶×°

Best way is to try random letters.
Also it says 'name taken' when trying these, when you try the space, it says 'name forbidden'

You can just use "alt" codes to get a space in game. RS2 doesn't have characters for alt keyboard characters so it just processes them as a valid null character since usernames only do client side validation. Your computer recognizes it as a character, so it validates client side, but there's not an actual character for it in jagex's list of characters. Most people used it to get around the language filter back in the day, but it can also be used for username shenanigans.

Considering its looks like a clientside validation. Well.. It is. Its more than likely possible to remove with a custom client or it may be possible to mess about with the packets before they're sent to the server to send whatever name you wanted instead. I'd imagine it will have some server validation somewhere though surely. If not, I'd be speechless. Can't imagine the name packets being unencrypted though.
It seems like it does considering it didn't allow for two underscores to be used before the name. Though that could be a restriction from the database I guess, not entirely sure.
