Nothing ever came out! It’s crazy to think all those masterpieces are just sitting on some hard drive at some Interscope office.

Dre was really just full of it lol he signed TONS of artist around that time and never let them release any albums and never put out Detox. All he's done the last 2 decades is lie and ruin careers. smh
Before "Detox" was ever a thought, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube were working on an album together when Dr. Dre was on Death Row Records, it was called "Helter Skelter". They released the track "Natural Born Killaz" on the "Murder Was The Case Soundtrack" and also shot a video for it. That was the first let down I remember experiencing being a fan of rap music, never seeing that album come to completion. Still waiting on that collaboration album by Nas and DJ Premier, but I doubt that will happen.
One song you didn’t point out that was supposed to be on the Detox album is “Get It” feat. 50 Cent, that has to be my favorite song from the unreleased album. The beat ended up being used for “50 for President” in 2008. I feel that song could’ve been a huge hit if it was released as single, especially the fact that it was in 50’s prime.
Eminem - Encore [Curtains] "And don't worry about that Detox album. It's comin'. We gon' make Dre do it" The Game - Higher "Doc got somethin' ta say be quite" (Dr. Dre "Look out for Detox") The Game - 120 "You a steroid addict, you need detox. Hopefully you make it out in time to be on Detox"
Dr dre was such a perfectionist, think about it. All the albums that did get released during that time were beyond good and stood the test of time. i.e early Em, Game & 50 cent albums, The Chronic. 🔥🔥🔥 Every song is great.
Good vid, I think Detox will never release, and I think it's right, because the project became so mythological and blown-out-of-proportion. The album would be impossible to please everyone! (Not to mention that "detox" is the opposite of "the chronic" so the concept is kind of impossible too.)
14:38 Focus didn't say The Game's song Where I'm From was intended for Detox he said "That was the first beat of mine that Dre rapped on. But then he took his verse off. Game spit the first verse, and Dre spit the second verse"
Detox should of been an album for Dre, not everyone else. If anyone, it should inspire Dre and that should be enough for any artist as a top producer himself.
The fact that you mentioned Slim the Mobster lets me know you really know your shit about this project. In 2010 I got the opportunity to listen to some unfinished songs and it was FIIIIIIIIIIIIRE.
Video idea. Love the Story of a Classic but what if you flipped it and did Story of a Bomb or Story of a Flop. You could do the rap version of Todd and the Shadows and his awesome Trainwreckords series. There's so much you could cover. I'd suggest Jay and Kingdom Come for first entry. Just an idea.
This is an excellent video. If Detox dropped in 2011 after the back-to-back successes of ‘Kush' and ‘I Need The Doctor’, it would have sold like crazy. I like to believe that ‘Compton’ was a version of ‘Detox’ in all but name, but obviously with the album coming out the same year as the NWA biopic ’Straight Outtta Compton’; it was obviously called ‘Compton’ to cash in.
Detox was already released (mostly) in terms of other artists using the beats Dre made for that album. 50 Cent's Get Rich Album featured several of those, Documentary got atleast one song, etc.
Problem is Dre was used to being the pioneer with his albums, The Chronic then 2001 were both game changers but around that 03-07 period when Detox was most realistically gonna drop 50 was bossing the game so why take away from that, plus Em was going thru his personal shit so it went on the back burner then by 08 the game had changed so much that Detox was out dated so Dre had to scrap it, start from scratch and try and pioneer a new sound, by the time he’d got his sound he tested the waters in 2015 with ‘Compton’ to see how the sound would fit into the scene at that time and to be fair it wasn’t received very well so I feel as though Dre just scrapped the whole thing because he knew the hype had overtaken and the new sound wouldn’t live up to expectations!!
Hearing this "Young World" Beat from the Handy Vid straight out the studio makes me hoping, thet there will be something released at some time... Maybe a legacy Album if he dies or something!

It's called Chronic 2001. I mean there is the weed leaf on the front cover as part of the album name.
That whiteboard has some interesting tracks
A Tribe Called West (A Tribe Called Quest feat)
Friendly Fire
Detox should of been an album for Dre, not everyone else. If anyone, it should inspire Dre and that should be enough for any artist as a top producer himself.
This is a really good video
I’d love to hear all the crazy older Eminem songs that they got stashed away
The fact that you mentioned Slim the Mobster lets me know you really know your shit about this project. In 2010 I got the opportunity to listen to some unfinished songs and it was FIIIIIIIIIIIIRE.
Bruh...im a dr. Dre fan....i have NEVER heard anybody talk about that PLANETS album. Like nobody knew of it but me 😂 ....good shit.
he was about to do music for his friend Mark Batson and his grafic novel, how big fan are you now? 😅
The album SMiLE by The Beach Boys took over 30 years to actually come out. Imagine if that album came out, before The Beatles released Sgt. Pepper.
I’ve seen that The Beach Boys have A LOT of stuff then went unreleased. Some ended up releasing years later as you noted
Wow
Detox has been worked on longer than I’ve been alive
This is an excellent video. If Detox dropped in 2011 after the back-to-back successes of ‘Kush' and ‘I Need The Doctor’, it would have sold like crazy. I like to believe that ‘Compton’ was a version of ‘Detox’ in all but name, but obviously with the album coming out the same year as the NWA biopic ’Straight Outtta Compton’; it was obviously called ‘Compton’ to cash in.
Every one of them sounded dope I watch everyone that you named albums that didn't come out and thumb them up!
Damn ur so young. I been with Detox since it was first announced in 2001. I know all the details. I can see you did some homework for this video.
After hearing Dre’s concept for the album im kinda glad it didnt come out 😅
Thanks for that detailed breakdown I wish we would see a detox album but I stated years ago its never coming out...
make a video about 50 cents street king immortal
The most teased album in the history of mankind
Nice job compiling all this info.

That Akon hook was used on David Banner’s 9MM
"A Tribe Called West" on the whiteboard.
Greetz from Germany man! Amazing work, maybe street king immortal by 50? Would be dope
I can't believe it took this dude 20 minutes just to get to the damn story
Detox was already released (mostly) in terms of other artists using the beats Dre made for that album.
50 Cent's Get Rich Album featured several of those, Documentary got atleast one song, etc.
The big bang theory had beats too
Problem is Dre was used to being the pioneer with his albums, The Chronic then 2001 were both game changers but around that 03-07 period when Detox was most realistically gonna drop 50 was bossing the game so why take away from that, plus Em was going thru his personal shit so it went on the back burner then by 08 the game had changed so much that Detox was out dated so Dre had to scrap it, start from scratch and try and pioneer a new sound, by the time he’d got his sound he tested the waters in 2015 with ‘Compton’ to see how the sound would fit into the scene at that time and to be fair it wasn’t received very well so I feel as though Dre just scrapped the whole thing because he knew the hype had overtaken and the new sound wouldn’t live up to expectations!!
I'm reppin South Phoenix.iSALUTE ur work fam.
Do the helter skelter breakdown bru!
Do dey still wanna release it.....or dis cancelled?
Bro please do 2pac one nation bro

Hearing this "Young World" Beat from the Handy Vid straight out the studio makes me hoping, thet there will be something released at some time... Maybe a legacy Album if he dies or something!
