That's right. Start out with lots of money. The more you've got the better the care you can buy.

However businesses like "A Place for Mom" can be helpful in seeking out options and educating you. The individual residences are not necessarily going to tell you some things. They are trying to make a sale.

    I work in social services.
I cannot stress enough: If your elder does not have a lot of money, you are going to be playing the worst kind of lotto with their care when you put them in a facility.
The ones that take government aid... oh lord. Ooooooooh lord. You gotta WATCH THEM. You gotta demand copies of all incident reports. You gotta call your elder to check up on them. If they aren't lucid enough to note their own care, YOU MUST HAVE SOMEONE VISIT MONTHLY.
Do a body check (look it up). Don't call ahead. Just show up.
I just... it's... yeah. Some of these places are run so badly that your elder could wind up with maggot infested bed sores so deep you can see bone.
    Ain't exaggerating.
You HAVE to check on your elder. You HAVE to.
It's criminal how unsafe some of these places are.

The ads for Reverse Mortgages are probably worse because the TV salesmen are beloved older TV stars.

Criteria #1 ) the SMELL. I have only been to 2 places that passed that test/ for MY family!!!! So far no one has had to go. My prayer I do not need to go. If I can't go to the bathroom on my own, put me away. No way I want my kids to endure that.

Have your parents live with you. All those places where older people live alone with no family members are filled with physicians who will convince your parents to take vaccines and medicines that harm them.
