    I'm dealing with this situation with two elderly parents in California. It's such a disgrace that our country/government treats the elderly this way, often leaving them with two options: struggle to live independently or live in a sub-par nursing home. It seems to me it would be common sense that Medicare paying for Assisted Living would be cost-effective in the long run.... and of course, the humane thing to do.

      It makes me sick and I worry about the future of senior care 10 and 20 years from now. My hope is that at some point Medicare would step and help supplement costs. However, I worry about when this will happen. In most cases, the government doesn't react unless everyone stands up and this becomes a crisis. Praying that some leader in government will stand up and lead they way to a more proactive approach.

    I have been looking at assisted living for a relative with dementia and its been hell getting one to accept him with medicaid. They are all pretty much private pay between $5000 and up. Once the resident funds run out they are either evicted or place in one of their medicaid beds if available.

      Look for an assistive living facility that has supportive living in the title of the name of the place. Once all your money is gone you go on state aid

    No no no... if the resident lives long enough (and I am an "immortalist" so it is un- known how long anyone can live), investments often don't last long enough and few people have more than a pittance invested compare to what's needed to live many years or decades at over $4,000 per month.

      @KrisChana  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s why it’s important to see if your loved one qualifies for the VA or SMMC which will help cover the costs of care in assisted living. Worst case Medicaid will cover the cost of a nursing home (“skilled nursing facility”)

    We have social workers who pay thousands of dollars for an education and never learn to solve the really big problems like this. This country is such a disgrace and should be ashamed for how they treat the elderly. Realistically how many people can afford 4,000 per month? Its sad!

    I'm not sure if any of what you are speaking on can help me because I live in Illinois. However I will still check it out. Thanks for the info! Just wanted to make sure someone can take advantage of applying for Statewide Medicaid Managed Care if they collect Social Security and have Medicare?

    • @KrisChana
      @KrisChana  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there. I’m not as familiar with Illinois. However in Florida individuals can apply for statewide Medicaid managed care if they meet certain income and asset requirements. Each states Medicaid program is a little different since it is a state program not federal.

    Idk how the ppl (who run elderly homes for ppl who can not care for themselves anymore) live with themselves and look themselves in the mirror every day. Assisted living for elderly ppl with dementia should be ashamed of themselves!!!

      Hi Aimee. I am sorry to hear about your experience with assisted living. They are not perfect but there are so many out there who work tirelessly and care a lot about their residents! We know of several amazing facilities and their teams are like angels!!!

      My grandma was in an amazing facility and she loved it. The staff was kind and care, the place was immaculate and the private made delicious meals three times a day. Her place with all the extra stuff was roughly $4,000 a month.

    If your parent is living with their son and family and is on the deed for the house, will the assisted living be entitled to the equity in the property when the home sells?

      I apologize for the delayed response. This comment got held up for some reason. I hope my response is not too late. That said, if you are in Florida the fastest way to fast track this would be to work with a nursing home (SNF) to admit this individual and help them apply for medicaid. After a few months, and once they get approved and on Medicaid, then they could be discharged to an assisted living community using SMMC.
