In grad school, we were discussing effective therapeutic intervention techniques for treating patients with Major Depressive Disorder. When it was my time to present, I began with "As with all effective techniques, it all begins with the True Boxing Stance.." I recieved a standing ovation and honorary merit for my contributions to the field. Thank you coach Marvin.
I pay for TH-cam premium so I don't get ads, but I think creators get more from premium subscribers anyways so I think I'm still helping. I hope. LOL 😂
I was wondering why the 1-2 feels so damn awkward. I always feel stuck or out of range, it felt inefficient. This is exactly what I needed. Marvin, cheers !
Nice, do one about true boxer ab workout for taking body shots and best way to work on stamina ( intervals or steady state and how many times a week), thanks
Even though I know boxing 🥊 for 13 years watching your videos had help me with a lot of mistakes that I had ...Marvin cook has a special mind for fighting
Just found your channel... it is so good!! I love how you highlight the footwork around 10:40 in the corner... I was watching this demo, thinking "It would be nice to see that footwork closer", then there it was in slow-mo on loop. Thank you! :)
This channel makes me understand watching great fighters of the past. All the greats are moving with great balance and poise!!! This is the exact opposite of skateboarding. In skateboarding you whip with rotational momentum your shoulders spinning the body from the top. In boxing footwork you rotate your body in footwork maneuvers from your hips!!!
I'm real glad your sharing your wealth of information, knowledge, and experience for everyone to grow from. I've trained with many striking coaches over the years, but I hardly see eye to eye with their methodology. Nearly every word you say resonates me and my understanding of the sweet science. Thank you sir and keep them coming!
So many good channels on boxing that I spend more time watching boxing than practising it. Just discovered this one and i like the pace at which you explain and break it down. I definitely feel like ive learned something watching wach video just once. Good teacher!
Hey man, can you make a video on how to lift weights for speed and explosive power? I'm doing push ups, pull ups, squat and deadlift but I'm getting heavier and slower. Appreciate it
You lift for speed by moving fast. LOL. Power cleans, snatches, push-press.. Your squats and deadlifts have to move fast too. Even if it’s a quarter of you can actually lift. Stretching helps too.
@Jake miller for me I work on the muscles that impact the movement or support the movement. Instead of bicep focus on tricep for punches. If you throw your jabs with your shoulder don’t just bench press you’ll want to work on the part of your shoulder above your tricep. I know this isn’t as helpful but it’s meant to help when you keep asking questions and keep looking for more workouts
Brilliant boxing strategist! Been studying boxing techniques since the 1960s from Sugar Ray Robinson, Sandy Sadler, Muhammad Ali, Duran, Alexis Arguello Ray Leonard, Benitez and of course Mayweather!
Love the mindset coach has and I can easy see why what he says makes a lot of sense. Truly appreciate the videos and mindset change Never knew how bad my footwork was until I found this channel a year ago. I had a newfound understanding of footwork ever since thank you coach
It would probably look absurdly good in sparring. In general I think it's superior for more point fighting. Not to say there's no power involved, that's obviously not the case. But it's strong point is definitely in being able to throw more punches more safely and to get hit less.
Wow makes sense I find my self naturally stepping to the left and my shoulder are putting me off balance.. im going to do whats not and move right ... thanks for tip
Great video marvellous Marvin 👍,good to get tips of you as I liken you to Bruce lee of martial arts !!,think you teach the truth and something different from normal boxing coaches,so many boxers don’t use there footwork either just want to be tough guy stand there and trade,I’m a kickboxer so obviously do have wider stance bigger steps as setting up kicks to,but your knowledge is spot on,can you do a video on Muhammad Ali how did he lure he’s opponents out of there stance to where there of balance ?,george foreman knock out being one them
These videos are excellent! I just found them this year! I'm a beginner boxer and I don't know if I should learn a more traditional stance first and then really dive into his videos? But he's just so excellent at teaching and articulating and he really understands the fundamentals, but I don't know if I'm crippling myself as a beginner going into this first online without being in person before learning a more traditional way. I should probably find a local gym and coach, but I want to learn from Marvin Cooks!
This is blowing my mind a bit. My straights are definitely my attribute but I've always felt so much more comfortable with an aggressive opponent. As soon as I go for them, my right falls short. Unless I'm going in somewhat recklessly behind a double jab or my preferred 1-2-1. But yeah, completely different perspective with this and something to throw in when moving left.
Makes me think of this one quote from idk where, that limitations is where creativity flourishes. In boxing, where the attacks and defenses are limited to only the fists, the details of the techniques in boxing goes far beyond what the typical MMA practitioner gets in the realms of punching. The stuff I see in this video are things that most of us people can watch on tv and yet not appreciate if we didnt know these tiny details.
So Coach, this is kinda like fighting a traditional/orthodox fighter using the strategy and moving to the left as if fighting a lefty? How do I time and position my left foot and hips? Where is my "main plane of focus on my opponent" that can guide me as I move? Thank you for teaching me strategy and movement.
Wow. I’ve never had a coach tell me to step my right foot up like that. I was just taught to get closer with the jab and that brings you close enough To throw the right

🤣
Me: How do i do this math problem?
Marv: From the true boxing stance...
Dawg, I am 💀
Thankyou Boss❤❤❤
This is the only channel I purposely let the whole midroll add play out, its the least I could do to support coach.
Do you know if the ads at the beginning contribute also? I do the same thing.
I pay for TH-cam premium so I don't get ads, but I think creators get more from premium subscribers anyways so I think I'm still helping. I hope. LOL 😂
@@ALL_CAPS__ yes they do
Does that effect the monitisation

I love how you add a game changing element to the fundamentals.
Making those angles and changing where the punch comes from. This is excellent.

Keep feeding us Coach Marvin! 🙏
Coach Marvin, you are de best!!!!! Wish I could study with you!!!

Showing a close up on the feet doing the move was perfect king 💯
Marvin is the truth... There are a lot of coaches who pretend to understand positioning and positional advantages, but they don’t.
Marvin cook is so meticulous in articulating his point . In return you get some sweet science for the brain to digest. God bless you Marvin Cook.
I have an Ahaaa Moment every time I watch Coach! 💡 I can't thank you enough for sharing your knowledge on here, its been helping me out tremendously!
Punctuating. Great description.
Hey Marvin! Will you ever do commentary on boxing fights or boxer's styles like Tyson fury?
Idk im not marvin
So awesome. The Fact that you're giving this wisdom for free. Thank you very much.
Guys when an add comes, dont skip. That will earn marvin more money.
Excellent technique being displayed here! Solid strategy. Well done guys! Awesome Video!

Mastering of the Basics. Master the Fundamentals and ALL doors open for you.
Thanks for the footwork closeup. Makes a difference

This guy is a genius thinking out the box I’m learning so much from your vids thanks for opening my mind
His videos are one of those very few ones which have no dislikes...and you rarely see videos like those on youtube...Goddamn.
Thx bro you are very good at giving me the understanding, it's like the spiritual aspect of boxing that controls the physical

I wish I had the time and money to come over there from Greece and train with you coach for a year
Hey man, can you make a video on how to lift weights for speed and explosive power? I'm doing push ups, pull ups, squat and deadlift but I'm getting heavier and slower. Appreciate it
I want to know that too
You lift for speed by moving fast. LOL. Power cleans, snatches, push-press.. Your squats and deadlifts have to move fast too. Even if it’s a quarter of you can actually lift. Stretching helps too.
Try kettle bells, all about explosive power and if you do the right exercises it uses all 30 core muscle groups
Squats with shoulder presses are great for boxing also
@Jake miller for me I work on the muscles that impact the movement or support the movement. Instead of bicep focus on tricep for punches. If you throw your jabs with your shoulder don’t just bench press you’ll want to work on the part of your shoulder above your tricep.

good advice I will use this in my next lesson and sparring
By far best boxing instructor
Glad your back man.
At 56 I'm finally learning the science. Thanks for helping me get ready for the Masters Division, Coach! 💪😁🌴🥊
It would be really nice to see you sparring versus the ''new'' boxer stance :)
Yes, I want to see this in action
It would probably look absurdly good in sparring. In general I think it's superior for more point fighting. Not to say there's no power involved, that's obviously not the case. But it's strong point is definitely in being able to throw more punches more safely and to get hit less.
Excellent! Simple and works
Thank you for this video 🙏
Do a shadowboxing video I’d love to see it. The movements with the feet I notice floyd moved his feet like this and so does shakur Stevenson.
Platinum gold content as usual; thanks Marvin.

Hey Marvin my question is that from where you get this great knowledge about boxing. Please answer
excellent as always.
Damn Marvin having a merchandise store would be absolutely a great idea for boxers for all levels

Loving this content! Thank you Marvin for creating such informative and clean instruction.
I am not fan of this move but Marvin said , so I am practicing it but still I feel something I am open for his right .

I actually stumbled onto this a couple of years ago by experimenting with Kali footwork.
Thanks a lot man!
U looking super jacked .....your technique is so superb
I have always had a problem landing my cross. I hope this makes it easier. I will try it tonight during boxing class.
Man this too good.
WOW, that's how I was originally taught how to throw the 1-2!
Wow. I’ve never had a coach tell me to step my right foot up like that.
I was just taught to get closer with the jab and that brings you close enough To throw the right
Another FANTASTIC one, Marvin! How well would you say the True Boxer's Stance works with grappling arts?
I love your videos coach...i would like the next one on how to trow the others combinations...for example 1-2-3....thank you very much..
I can’t wait for the hooks
Could you please do commentary and analysis on fight clips? Thanks
Wow this is gold
Thank u marvin i hope to train with u someday wen im up
The 4 dislikes are from salty coaches who don’t like to hear that they teaching methods are wrong 🤣

If I'm not mistaken, Lomachenko does this same movement outside of the opponent's guard rather than inside.
