    The Jab-Cross is the most commonly thrown combo in #Boxing, so it's vital that you know how to defend against it! Coach PJ and Shane break down 5 ways to defend the jab cross (or 1-2 combo) to avoid getting hit and then counter with your own punches.

      You probably heard of the boxer fracture. Repeated blows with little recovery can wear down bones. Similarly, if you suddenly have to apply what you´ve learned in boxing in the real world, you won´t have gloves and that can result in broken knuckles, fingers, or a damaged wrist (the latter more typical as a rookie mistake when you overcommit but the distance and angle changes and you adjust the fist, but not the entire arm).

    I use a blocking based guarding style too. Often I just deflect shots off my guard or absorb them on my forearms or gloves with my high guard when Im being attacked. I take the least damage this way, and am in position for a counter attack. I do muay thai. I use that helmet/shield type guard you showed in the video too. I use most types of blocks in my sparring along with the high guard. Blocking is the most reliable form of defense, imo. Besides getting out of the way but you cant always evade the attack.

    • @MrRazmut
      @MrRazmut 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      True, blocking is always reliable if you're good at it. There is nothing to slip up if you can just see the punch coming and hide the target. With a slip or something like that the guy might track your movement and time it or you might mess up and slip too little or too late and get caught anyway. In MMA blocking is a bit more difficult coz the small gloves can slip in through really super small openings if they're well aimed

    Hey, just a tip: TH-cam has an algorithm that really favors videos over ten minutes, I notice that you have a lot of smaller videos, if you put some of them together so they’re around ten minutes, you’ll get more views. Not saying to put random videos together, but adding a little more to each video and uploading a bit less frequently would definitely be worth it, love the content and I’ve been subbed for years, I love seeing the channel grow. Good luck and great content!!

      This is boxing and not mma, by the way the single leg IN mma against a high level striker is not the best choice, i’d prefer double, the single by far is the easiest takedown to defend against in my opinion, the striker can pull his leg back and step back and throw a uppercut as a counter

    The only kinda fight i've ever been in,cause i have always tried to keep myself away from fighting is where this dude was pushin me and then he backed away from me a bit, so uk i wasn't gonna take that. I literally ran in towards him but just b4 i was in range i stopped perfect guard up everything,so i fake jab, ofc uk he bit the fient so i took my opportunity, threw a long range right hook while steppin across only with my left foot,made sure to keep my left hand stuck to my head. I was really looking for the liver shot there but his hands were literally straight down at his sides, not even blocking his head at all, i could have throw a left hook there but i decided not to and just backed up instead with my head down and back to a perfect guard. And guess what i did all of that just based off of anger, no thinking what so ever so it happened really fast, i would say definetly less than 10 seconds.

    My trainer said that you should avoid pulling a punch at all times. Because its hard to move your upper body from that position and I can feel that when i pull a punch. Although no one seems to acknowledge that in boxing tutorials in yt. Why not?

    • @christianrivera6296
      @christianrivera6296 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Look up Roy Jones Jr and Floyd Mayweather. They do that move a lot. Look, your coach May be right, so it’s not wrong, however everyone has a different style of fighting. I can’t give you a reasonable answer man, but all I can say is, if it works for you and you see actual results from it, do it, if not let it go and try something else.

    Hey guys, what's your take on elbowing the arm? I was able to do it a couple times in some light sparring, but is it too unreliable?
    For reference, I was practicing the Philly Shell, opponent and I were both orthodox. He threw a cross and instead of just shoulder rolling I swung the elbow, connecting to the forearm. Is this just luck, or is it worth keeping it in the arsenal? If the latter, under what circumstance would I be better off using this than a standard shoulder roll? If done, what follow-up strike is most viable in boxing? What follow-up technique might be most viable in MMA?
    Thanks to any and all who chime in.

    • @Cavouku
      @Cavouku 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mucahitbaltaci3506 See, I thought so too, but every boxer I've spoken to has said that you're allowed to throw it as long as it's not a strike to the head or body. It's true that it's technically against the rules to hit with the elbow, but I think this action is considered a defense in the same way a shoulder-roll is, even though you're not allowed to hit with the shoulders.
      EDIT: I don't know if that's the justification, or even the case, but again - nobody I've asked has told me it was illegal in this context.
