Rome to Milan on the ETR252 Harlequin Arlecchino May 22 2022

A trip on the 1960 ETR252 Harlequin Arlecchino train on May 22 2022 ETR 250 from Roma Termini to Milano Centrale.
The Harlequin Arlecchino train is the 4 carriage version of the earlier Settebello. It has been restored to mainline condition by FS Italiane Foundation.
Video features a walk through of all 4 carriages plus video in the drivers rooftop cab during the run.

Beautiful train, a symbol of Italian style also in 1952, the year in which it was put into circulation. The name Arlecchino derives from the different colors of the seats of each carriage, which recalls the colored dress of Arlecchino, one of the masks of the Italian Commedia dell'Arte.

Created in conjunction with the 1960 Rome Olympic Games, this train used the mechanical and electrical components of the Ale 601 fast train electromotives which, however, only entered service in 1961. This configuration allowed both types of train to reach, in theory, the speed of 200 km/h (124 miles/h) with maximum comfort. In reality these convoys, together with the modified ETR 300 and ETR 220, which shared the mechanics with the Ale 601 electromotives and Arlecchino , "only" reached 180 km/h in service and only from 1969 onwards. To the delight of enthusiasts, Ale 601s will also soon be back on track.

Salve! Ricordo perfettamente le date durante le quali viaggiai su questo fantastico treno: il 6/12/72 e il 30/4/73 quando ero appena 20enne.
In entrambe le occasioni il tragitto fu da Roma Termini a Napoli Mergellina ed il convoglio era contraddistinto dalla sigla letterale MN, cioè espletava servizio di treno rapido da Milano Centrale a Napoli Mergellina, con fermate intermedie a Bologna, Firenze e appunto Roma Termini, da cui salivo per fare ritorno nella città partenopea in soli 90 minuti e dopo una giornata trascorsa piacevolmente, in completa spensieratezza, e da solo, nella Capitale.
A distanza di una cinquantina d'anni questi ricordi di gioventù sono rimasti indelebili e soprattutto commoventi nei miei pensieri.
