@@HillClimbMonsters I know you've read the translation already, but I translated it for those who haven't or can't: I showed this video to the driver himself today. Mr. Yamamoto, he said he was young at this time because he didn't seem to watch TH-cam, but he heard the engine. I heard from him that it was an engine that wouldn't break even if it's idling at 4000 rpm, and stepped on at 12000 rpm. I feel the same way. Actually had an AW11 a decade or so ago and loved it. It was nearing the age when it needed a full resto though sadly. Same probably true of the Pulsar GTiR with which I replaced it now. 80s and 90s Japanese cars have magic about them, not unlike some 50s and 60s Italians...
You definitely did, the very last year for „good new cars“ was circa 2008. And even by then everything was already very much computerized. My 90s BMW inline six with mechanical throttle and manual gearbox feels way better and more powerful than my 2012 BMW inline six with a manual gearbox but electronic throttle, even if it has almost 100hp less.. Buy all the 90s cars you can, because there will never be something like them.. At this point I have three nineties cars, two BMW e36 with the M52 inline six and one Mercedes R129 with the M119 5.0 V8 and I absolutely plan to buy more, whenever one pops up that’s in good shape but still affordable! Because like I already mentioned, there will never again be such fine cars..
Seriously dont understand why the AW11 isnt more popular these days. Small, light, and rear midship! I wonder what kind of work this one had done, that engine sounds glorious
They're hard for the average person to drive fast and have huge problems with rust, the wheel arch liner was made of foam which obviously just absorbed water so they'd rust from the inside, it's also an old and relatively obscure Japanese car so parts and maintenance are more expensive than more popular cars of the time. Ultimately there are better ways to go fast with less money, hasn't stopped me from wanting one but being unable to find a good example has stopped me from buying at least three.
I used to have an '88 supercharged MR2 with 150 hp. That thing was a lot of fun (and very dangerous in the hands of a novice). Had the rear end come around on me quite a few times, but never wrecked it.
the aw11 always has needed a slightly longer rear control arm to get the right travel. i feel like spaceframing the rear end and using a zzw30 rear subframe would do nicely.
a stock AW11 weights around 1100kg(2425lbs) depending on trim/engine. It must almost be a silouette car to almost halve the weight down to 620kg(1366lbs). I can see the boot/trunk and probably rear firewall has been completely removed....

What an under rated platform, even in Canada we can get one for under 10k. Something to think about.🔥🔥🔥
Not a supercharged one you can't.

They got bought up by kids that destroyed them. They're very rare these days for a fair price.

Spoken like a true expert 👍 The rear sub-frame is spaceframed and pretty much all panels of the cars were made of CFRP.

Sr20de would be the best option. And if you want more power check the SR20VE. It has roughly 190hp.
I don't think there's much, if any, original AW11 left in this car. It looks to be a fibreglass shell on top of a tube frame.
