Great buy for under 150 for older obd1s or early model 2000s

Yeah I pretty much made up my mind, I'm not buying it. He was so nice to let me borrow his good demo, not to mention take the old one home and work on it. I must have made real a good impression on him. Can't say I would have done that if I were a tool guy. He seems like a real straight up fellow. Wish there were more like him.

Most shops are now going with laptop based units that they can have on a cart and just roll up to the car, or take with them on a test ride.

Will this scan tool do Bidirectional testing on 2006 Jetta emissions air pump systems?

That scanner is obsolete now, heck it was when I was looking at it. Better off going with the new Autel models.

I definitely agree just need a bidirectional scan tool for my sons Jetta and Ive had this since new in 1999 and its been in my house in the box with almost No Use. lol. I figure if I could update it for 200 it would be worth it.

Yes they are really making progress now with that sort of thing. It's great for a code reader, and maybe a little more usefull with a tablet device, but the shear size of the databases required for all the manufacturer data pretty much preclude them from making a top level diagnostic scanner that works via a smartphone.

Interesting. I was just looking at an ad on craigslist that was selling a Genisys for $700. I was looking online to see whether or not it was worth it, and I landed here. So tell me, does this thing even have an ABS feature and or, an Airbag feature? I really dont need another code reader. I'm looking for something that has the capability of a snapon modis - the $10,000 price tag. If the Genisys cant even do ABS systems, and Airbag systems, it's not even worth my time.

Of course it's probably too late to be of any use, I just looked at the comments on this vid (sorry). The Genisys is a good scanner but outdated now. The best bang for the buck is the Autel Maxidas. The updates are inexpensive compared to Snap-On, and overall, I think is the best value for the money. I have been extremely pleased with mine, and yes they do ABS and Airbags. There is no single solution. Your bound to find something that any of the scanners may not read or do. But I have yet run across anything that the Autel couldn't do.

Its funny you mention that! I ultimately purchased an Autel Maxidas from my Matco guy. Of course 5 months later they are selling them at Harbor Freight for half of what I paid for mine, but alas... I am still very happy with it :)

Yes they have all that and vehicle specific tests too.like diesel cylinder contribution tests.able to plug in a laptop and use the scan tool.lots of engine running tests.it's better snap ons virus they compare it to.plus you can trade it in on a new model.

that pin is Null.. i picked up this same unit from the local garage for nothing (they were binning all there older equipment so i sat there with my truck and just had them toss all the tools straight into my truck) it has 5.0 boots up fine (about 12 seconds) and reads cars up to 2014-2015.. it has more options then my Snapon.. even more interesting.. the battery pack is nothing more then a RC car battery pack as i replaced mine with a general RC car battery pack thats Ni-Cad.. as of 05/2023 i actually still run mine and ive had it for 2 years. the reason they stopped using theres is they said it refused to charge and it turned out the charger barrel plug had a cold solder joint just cleaned off the old solder and reapplied fresh throughout the entire backplane and everything works perfect.. i stay away from innovas they are just glorified number readers... i stay away from Autel they are junk.. ive had one loose its memory and to repair it was $1200 after i spent $1500 not a year before the second one just stopped reading cars period they wanted $1400 to repair.. old is not always a bad thing ive tossed these around in the back of my truck ive piled tools and jacks on my genisys and still works perfect for a freebie that can be thrown around even if i had to spend $200 its gotten me out of alot of things including bypassing a few imports module security lockouts.

I agree. My problem is that I have been burnt on 2 scanners already. And not super cheap ones either. I paid over $400 for my Innova 31703B, and while it does do the OBDI stuff as well as the old Monitor2000 (I'm really dating myself there!). It really falls short in the Airbag and ABS area. Innova states in their advertising that it reads most ABS and airbag on US vehicles and I haven't seen one yet that it will talk to. Plus their tech support is a complete joke.

Hey Mcgyver which Autel scanner did you end up getting? I was looking hard at the 802 but it doesnt manually turn things on like injectors.

Do u think the Creader Professional CRP123 is better then the autel?

  • @Blazer2533
    @Blazer2533 11 ปีที่แล้ว

honestly 300 bucks sounds a bit too high even for an outdated scanner and if the factory won't update it or repair it then thats a huge risk to take for 300 bucks..I would offer him maybe $150 since it is broken and outdated and if he a good saleman he would take that because to me it seems like junk...go with a newer one IMHO

    It does look like rs232.
I agree mate, too old and dont cover obd3, if your going to shell out for a device, then that old one wont do.
If all you did was service older vehicles and the price was a tad lower then i would have said yes, its old tech and was never a cheapjack device from new, it would likely be reliable but its not the droid your looking for ha ha :-))
