This is a tough topic because whenever someone says they don’t want children, and list any of the logical reasons for why that is, those who have them feel criticized. As if they didn’t think of those reasons, or even worse, they don’t care about such things.
That’s not the case. Everyone has different goals, perspectives, finances, family medical history, etc.
It’s pointless (unless to hurt someone) to tell someone with kids that life is better without them, or to tell someone without kids that life is better with them. Some of these comments make it seem like life is pointless without children, well what about the people who can’t have children? Should they suffer because you think life is better with kids?
If we all took a moment, we could certainly create a pros and cons list for both perspectives and that doesn’t mean anyone is wrong for their journey.

Some people fail to acknowledge that there’s many ppl who would genuinely be amazing parents that don’t want kids and are happy/happier w/o them. You can still be a good person without kids. If you think otherwise, reflect on yourself for your kids/future kids sake. There’s many parents (not all but it’s usually those telling others to have kids) who shouldn’t have kids cuz they’re to narcissistic to even understand how seagulls they are as parent. True happiness comes from within, not from external things; they can influence it but that’s all.

This was a deal breaker question for me. I used to ask even on first dates “how do you feel about children?” It’s a rounded question that tells you a lot about the person. I, honestly, love children but I have never wanted to be a mother in any way; including step mother (or whatever the proper term is for that now - my age is showing here). How one answered the question would allow me to decide what type or relationship I would have with that person. I think, due to its life altering decision, it’s important to know these things before a relationship starts. Resentment will grow if you get later down the road and one wants children and the other doesn’t. Don’t waste each others time.

Not everyone is born to raise children. It’s a life time commitment and involves responsibility, sacrifice, financial support, and a great deal of mental, physical and emotional energy.
I only had one child and it was an easy peasy life with him. He currently has 4 children and is fully engaged in raising them with his wife. I don’t envy them at all. I live next door to them and although I realise they do share many of the joys that come with bringing them up, it does, at times bring the worst out of them.
When it comes to disciplining, the yelling that I hear from my place is pretty scary. Kids can be very challenging and sometimes they say and do bizarre stuff that is truly mind boggling.
It really does depend on the characteristic of a child. A defiant, stubborn child can sometimes create lifelong problems for parents which can then sadly lead to serious stress related illnesses for the parents.
My husband and I help out with our 4 grandchildren and I believe that the extra assistance we provide contributes tremendously.
Although I love my grandchildren to the moon and back, I quietly wish that my son only had a couple of children because I can see that the burden of four children has worn him down.
It is what it is, and I totally understand the reasoning for a great number of people choosing not to have children. One needs to be fully prepared and selfless to take on this very challenging role in life.
Ultimately, raising children requires financial stability, extended family/ social support and continual care and love that needs to last a lifetime.
Good luck to those who are currently parenting. And to those individuals who have consciously chosen not to have children, I totally understand and agree with your reasoning.

Perfectly fine. Not everyone wants to be parents and I totally get it.
The only thing I will say is that personally and honestly I don’t think you will know love like loving your own child. You will never experience the emotions parenthood allows you to feel. You will never experience as deep and rewarding a relationship as you can have with your own child.

It’s a redundant thing to say that not having kids has helped him succeed… because no one knows the alternative. Had he had a child, he may even be more successful. I’ve recently become a father and I’ve now got an extra drive that I never knew I had.
Success is also subjective and comes in many forms.

I’ve known multiple people who weren’t sure they wanted kids, had them, and wound up struggling and now don’t have much positive to say about their children.
Most are exhausted, many wound up divorced and having to go back to school. Their mental health has taken a huge dive in the process. It has not given them fulfillment, it has become an anchor stealing their health.
There are plenty of unhappy people with children. Tons. And you won’t hear them say anything about it because it would break them or ruin their social credibility. Sometimes these people won’t acknowledge it even to themselves and inadvertently take it out on their children.

It’s when we get older and outgrow our usefulness that they start to really hate us. We no longer garnish the attention they so desperately desire. And goodness forbid daughter becomes “more beautiful or more successful” than mom! That’s when it REALLY starts.
