37 year old dude here. I appreciate your taste for cleanliness and minimalism. I watch a lot of Retro game room videos and guys have some of the coolest nostalgic stuff from our past growing up but the room looks so hoardy and busy that it would make me just want to get out of the room in a few minutes. I have a retro game room. I live in a log cabin so everything is natural wood. I have a huge wine barrel that my wife and I made the DK logo for as part of my set up. I go for a minimalist look myself with everything organized. I have a 27" CRT and NES, SNES, 64, Gamecube, Wii, PS2, and a VCR all connected to it. I have my SNES and Gamecube going to the CRT via component cables.
Thank you! Yeah, I try to avoid overly cluttering the room, as tempting as it is to keep adding stuff. I think I might start swapping some display items in and out on sort of a rotation so that I can keep a fresh look and continue to collect while still keeping the room uncluttered. Your setup sounds really fun and cozy. Wood really adds a lot of warmth.
Awesome setup man. I am 30 and love retro games and just stuff in general from the 80s and 90s. I still have a few of my older consoles and have plans to make a retro gaming setup myself. Great vid
Congratulations on your beautiful game-room! You did the impossible, setting up all those game consoles and game displays while maintaining elegant aesthetics. Nothing I´ve seen anywhere comes even close to what you did to the space :-) An extra shoutout for your perfect cable management!
this looks beautiful seems to me you have a knack for woodworking and stuff like that. I know a lot of youtubue channels where folks make videos on how they make things in the woodshop, you might have a huge audience coming ovevr for that stuff if you ever decide to film. I really like your gameroom, the way your consoles are layed out, its really beautiful work sir. GG
Thank you! I appreciate the comment. Someday I might go more in-depth on a separate channel about these types of woodworking projects. Right now I'm honestly doing a lot of trial-and-error work, figuring it all out with the tools that I have. Someday, once I have my methods nailed down better and a cleaner workshop, I might go that route.
Thanks, I appreciate it. It sure is a cool CD player with the PS2 remote. It would be challenging to find a completely different spot since I'll need to keep it fairly close to the stereo rack (analog audio cables) and in a spot that works well for inserting discs.
If the 32" Trinitron is sharp, you might want to stick with it or consider an RGB mod if possible. Or if it has an S-video input and is a standard definition set, you're honestly not missing out on too much that a PVM offers. Sometimes I wouldn't mind having a larger CRT like that.
@ It is a great TV, I love it especially for light gun games. It is just difficult to live with in a shared space with my wife. I have to move it to our shed along with an arcade to make space for our Christmas tree and my back is dreading it.
@@paulkersey1989 Ah, I understand then. You might want to try "Forearm Forklifts" to team lift that beast! Any CRT above 27" is a no-go for me to move alone. A Harbor Freight knockoff of Forearm Forklifts is actually how I got the previous chair out of this room with just my wife's help. I've never used them myself for lifting a CRT (didn't know about the product back in the day), but it's also what helped me and my Dad move my heavy arcade machine into my game room. It made lifting and handling so much easier and safer.
Love the custom wood side panels on the tv 👌🏻 good quality of life improvements! That's a cool stand for the ps1 but I think placed elsewhere it would look better!
Thanks! It's an Olympus OEV203, manufactured by Sony. I swapped the Olympus badge for a Sony one a while back. Internally, it should be identical to a Sony PVM-20M2MDU. Very nice updates, functional yet tasteful. The veneers on the PVM are really well done. What purpose does the pedestal serve? I think it might look better without it, but of course it would lower the screen by 1" perhaps? I do like the trivet as a spacer between the PVM and PS1. Just all round excellent!
Thank you! The pedestal just raises it up a 3/4". In the past, I'd always preferred the extra bit of height and had a few plywood blocks to experiment with slight height changes. I should try it without the extra height now that I have a new chair. I appreciate your thoughts on the changes!

The wooden strip on the side of your TV looks impressively slick. Such a simple yet effective solution.
Loving the mid-century touches! Your style is definitely more of my taste and it’s been rare to see that in the collector space.

Translucent ps4 controller is sickkk!!! I love the reto translucent era!!!
Agreed! It's such a cool look. I bet translucent plastics will someday make a comeback. Microsoft recently released a pair of translucent controllers.

What a collection! Now add a Pablo Elise lamp.
Thanks for the idea! I hadn't heard of that lamp before, but yeah, the style would fit in well, especially one with a black marble base.
Wood panel looks so clean. I thought it was oem at first :)
The PVM with wood trim looks great! I actually thought it was stock
Thanks for your comments on my videos and for watching -- I appreciate it!
I would keep the top of that tv clean of anything. Using a ps1 as a cd player is dope.

I enjoy your videos, keep it up 👍🏻

Great room! Appreciate the clean style! Maybe you’d consider a second PVM for TATE gaming?
Thanks for the comment and idea! TATE would be neat to experiment with someday, especially if I get into playing around with a MiSTer FPGA.
Thank god it’s a real PVM, I hate looking at a 4k “retro” game room. Nice job…
i love your setup!

bruh wear the olympus badge with pride, we knows it's a pvm.
I saved it, but it's a pretty ugly badge compared to a Sony badge. It is a rectangle rather than following the shape of the letters.
looks good, but i would center the ps1 on top of the tv to get it a little more symmetry.

What hdmi cables do you use
I mostly use HDMI cables from Monoprice.com. The quality is good, with a variety of lengths, and they offer properly certified cables. I buy other cables from them too like RCA cables, CAT6, small power extension cords, speaker wire, etc.

3:46 myth
It's an opinion. If you're the type of audiophile who looks only at spec sheets and computer generated graphs, it's objectively bad. But I judge by sound, and it sounds good to my ears. Early PS1s produce a pleasing, warm sound. Also, they're fun to use, which has to be counted. I like using the flip top for disc swaps, and with a PS2 remote, it's very convenient and snappy to control playback functions. It is much more responsive to remote commands than many other CD players.
Get a regular big consumer CRT instead of that overengineered PVM so your loudspeakers won't look as funny anymore
I like consumer CRTs too, but these days for bigger screen retro gaming I use my RT4K. The consoles on the shelf are all connected to both the PVM and RT4K.

In summary, I very carefully considered the arrangement of everything in this room and prefer this rug orientation.
