So Abe's secret is simple: he has an arsenal of throws in every direction from any grip. Te waza....koshi waza....ashi waza....left, right, forward, backward. Easy peasy!

Yea. Some of these “simple” strategies are often the hardest to do. I think a Maruyama game plan is even more difficult unless your technique is off the charts

Athletics, too. How many judokas you know with that kind of shoulder (or lower body in the case of uchi mata experts) strength and flexibility?

@@antoniom-suarez4494 I think Abe is very special in terms of seoi nage. Inoue had disproportionately short legs which made one step Uchi mata easier for him

Thanks a lot! Really nice breakdown. Would love to see more of these. :-)
Small feedback: A bit more slow motion / pausing when explaining details would be great. If you'd use markers to highlight the positional details, this would make it phenomenal!

Please could you make a kumikata-only analysis and compilation video of many top judo legends? It would be interesting to learn more about how Abe Hifumi, Ono Shohei, etc. approach each contest in the first few seconds so that they're unlikely to suffer disadvantage
