    Make a seasoned flour! Put it in a gallon ziploc bag. Place the fish in with the flour, seal it, and shakeshakeshake to dust the fillets with flour. Remove the fillets. The nice thing is that you can place the entire bag in the freezer. Any moisture will freeze solid, and you want have to worry about the moisture making the flour spoil. If you get enough "nuggets", just pass the flour through a sieve to remove the chunks.
    You HAVE to water potted plants like that daily. Elevated pots just don't retain water like in-ground soil does.
    When your cilantro goes to seed, collect some (but not all) of the seeds. Those seeds are coriander seeds. Let some of the seeds fall back into the pot, and you'll get a new crop next season.

    Always cut the larger stalks of parsley from the outside of the plant. This allows the smaller inside stalks to grow larger and new small shoots come up in the middle.

    Those Peacock Bass are so pretty. Glad to hear they are good to eat. I have always wanted to come down to South Florida and fish the canals for them, but on my fly rod.
    Good luck with the herbs and veg. Garden. You may be surprised how easy it is to garden in containers. But being in that florida heat, you may want to do a small drip irrigation system to water you pots, during the heat of summer. I recommend trying rosemary plants too. It is an easy to grow evergreen, that is drought and cold tollarant. And easy to propagate later. Tomatoes grow easily in pots. As for your basil, be sure to pinch back the flowers, to keep it producing all year long.

    • @brookcristoutdoors
      @brookcristoutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We want to start tomatoes for sure, probably rosemary will be the next thing!

    • @chrissewell1608
      @chrissewell1608 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brookcristoutdoors You only need a few plants to have plenty of fresh tomatoes. We usually try a few different types. And you can even plant them upside down, or in hanging baskets. The best I have ever seen, were grown by prisoners, in some 5 gallon buckets. Tomatoes do well in a wire cage or running up a trellis. But they are prone to pests. Read up on Horn Worms. 🐛 They would make good bait, for those peacock bass though! (Payback for shreding all my tomato vines, in one night!)

    Hi Brook
    This is Janine,
    I know this was filmed a year ago. You had. mentioned about a n herb 🌿 garden you were growing. I used to have one myself. This is what I grew and used on my food. I grew lemon mint, mint, rosemary, spring onions, sage, oregano, thyme, dill, cilantro, tarragon great for fish, and basil and lastly parsley. Should you ever decide to grow another herb these are what I'd recommend.
    Beautiful peacock bass you caught.

    Instead of cutting the basil with shears, just pluck the leaves you want. When you pull off leaves, it promotes new growth which will let your basil grow tall. My biggest bush was 4 foot in diameter but 6 foot in height. use worm castings in a large area, aka a garden. in planter pots, use fish material as the fertilizer, your growth will multiply.

    • @brookcristoutdoors
      @brookcristoutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have to worry about the basil flowering when they get that tall?

    • @chancestapivic9089
      @chancestapivic9089 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brookcristoutdoorsIt's not necessarily the height that makes them flower, more or less how old the plant is. If you see the plant starting to flower, just pluck the buds off and the plant will continue to produce more leaves instead of ending its growing cycle.
