    I'm a senior, and I've been stressing my mind over what to do after highschool.
    You've eased my mind so much. Thank you so much.

    I graduated from the University of Houston back in December with a BS in Biology&Philosophy. I did 2 years at Houston community college and then transferred, did additional 3 years at the university. The community college was easier and cheaper. While I was there, I managed to work, play, and be on the dean's list. The downside of community college is that they don't prepare you for the upper-level course work: no gene coding, no nucleotide blast, no manuscripts writing, etc. I fell behind because I was illiterate in these things. Nonetheless, I supported myself and paid my own tuition and graduating debt free wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for the community college. I believe that going a 4-year university is the smarter decision IF you REALLY want to learn and be an expert.

    Hi Laura! I really enjoy watching your video.
    I am planning to go to a community college after high school but I don't know whether I should stay in A.V.I.D program or not. Avid is a program that design for student to get into four years of university and to be successful. I've been in that class since seventh grade so next year I'm going to be a junior. Do you think that it is a waste of time to be in AVID if I go to community college?

      Hey girl! I think it is really essential to be a part of communities within your school or social circle that foster college-readiness and equip you with the skill set needed to be college-bound! So, even if you go to a community college as opposed to the traditional 4-year college that AVID is aimed at, you will still be able to use the tips and tools you learn from the program a couple of years down the road, and maybe even leverage the relationships you build with fellow members of the program in deciding where to apply. I'd say stay in there- but talk to a guidance counselor and your favorite teacher about the pros and cons before deciding anything :-)

      Emma Nguyen Hi Emma, I was in the A.V.I.D program in high school. I think staying is a good idea even if you're not planning on attending a 4-year. I ended up going to community college, but I can tell you that staying in AVID was really helpful my senior year. Teachers have a good grasp of college-related questions (community college included). Ultimately, it's your decision, but I just wanted to give you my take on it since AVID was really useful for me.

    hi first off you're so pretty and your videos are great 😊 but I would like to know is community college exactly like high school because some say it is or is it totally different?

    • @LauraCollegeappgirl
      @LauraCollegeappgirl  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it varies, in my own experience it did feel like an extended version of high school! But there are so many new people that you get the chance to reinvent yourself, just like you would at a 4 year school :-)

    Is making friends at community college hard? And thanks for the video it really helped

    • @LauraCollegeappgirl
      @LauraCollegeappgirl  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey! it really depends on you, but I noticed that people were typically friendly in class. Joining clubs/organizations also helps, everyone's in the same boat, so it shouldn't be too hard to make new friends :)

    Any advice if you want to go to HCC to study and get your bachelors for psychology?

    • @wftjet
      @wftjet 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daiyon Miller psychology departments at 4 year schools can vary in terms of courses they will accept in their major. If you know which state school you want to get the BA in, talk to the department of psych there for course selection advice when you are at CC. Gen ed courses will transfer over if they fulfilled requirements for the AA.
