    Thank you so much for these very helpful tips and guidelines as to where and how to begin. I have felt so overwhelmed with the technology piece that it feels paralyzing. I have been teaching via zoom for a year and have my students send me e-transfers(I am Canadian). But i find that sometimes i am chasing after students to pay me and it is feeling far too casual and not as much a business. I was introduced to your video by one of my students who mentioned I should look into better lighting. I appreciate your guidance and look forward to improving my business. Thank you.

    • @rebekahsmiley1665
      @rebekahsmiley1665 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AshleyHagen I just went on Amazon and ordered the soft box lighting! In the meantime, I have been teaching outside in the natural light but pretty soon it will be too cold! I am slowly becoming more comfortable with online teaching, the positive was that most of my students prior to online were in person at a studio in town but that studio closed down during Covid. I am grateful that many of my students continued with me virtually. Renting studio space is too pricey so this has been a great alternative and accessible for those who might not want to drive (high fuel prices) or feel more at ease being in their homes.

    Ashley - just now discovering your amazing videos! Do you use the RODE wireless 2 with your Logitech Brio? DO you have a video on pairing these together? I'm confused about the Brio having its own mic and then having an external mic too. Thank you!!!

    • @AshleyHagen
      @AshleyHagen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need to pair them together. You attach them both to a computer and they work with your computer. You need a computer to use a webcam. The webcam does not function on its own.
      Whatever software you are recording in (Zoom, quicktime, live stream, etc), you will set your camera and your microphone separately in the software.

    • @fabucyn31
      @fabucyn31 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for trying to help! I purchased the suggested cables and still no luck - voice is choppy and mechanical sounding or people can't hear it at all. Hi Ashley, you are a star to shares this. Thanx ! Do you use also the little extra microphone Lavalier Go that connects to the Wireless Go? Im planning to do yoga in Nature and wind might be a problem...

    • @AshleyHagen
      @AshleyHagen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not have the Lav Go, but I know a few friends who do and it's great. You can actually get a cheaper one, just make sure the input tip is a TRS (2 rings) rather than a TRRS (3 rings). The Rode Wireless Go also comes with a little fuzzy thing to put on top of the microphone, so that's an option. The Pyle double ear headset for $15 works, too.

    Hi Ashley I stumbled onto your channel and so glad I did. You provide such valuable information and you make it so simple. I have been nervous to start however after watching you video I feel confident that I can do this. I hope this is not too silly a question, what would be a realistic amount to charge? Would it be for each class or a monthly subscription etc. I would appreciate you advice. Thank you so much for all your energy, time and effort to help us yoga instructors. You are awesome!!!

    • @AshleyHagen
      @AshleyHagen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s entirely up to you. You could do drop-in classes or monthly or packages. There are loads of options. And the amount is going to vary person to person. There is no right or wrong way. I’m sorry I can’t be more specific without fully knowing your long-term business goals and plan. I actually teach free classes every morning, but my business plan is set up differently. My income comes from elsewhere.

    The rode wireless is out of stock, is there an alternative?

    • @AshleyHagen
      @AshleyHagen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's been out of stock a few times since it is in such high demand and SO good. I wish I new a comparable alternative, but right now I am not sure. I will personally look up a few alternatives to try out and come back to this comment when I find something. Bluetooth headphones work okay, but still kinda sound like you're in a tunnel. I have apple airpods and would likely use those if I didn't use this microphone.

    Thanks for the video series 🙏. It's very helpful 👏🏻. Just one quick question: How do I get an eMail list? I don't have a yoga studio where I teach and could ask people to give me their addresses and I don't have a website either where I could offer a freebie (like you and many others do 😉) to collect addresses. I really don't know where to start on this...

    • @AshleyHagen
      @AshleyHagen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmm.. this would make a great topic to talk on. I have so many suggestions, but so little space to answer. It be a quick question, but there is not necessarily a "quick" answer that I can type into this reply. Short answer: join an email service provider (I use Convertkit) and they have free landing pages you can send for people to join your list (with or without a freebie attached). You can share that link with your people. Or simply ask for email addresses and store them in a spreadsheet to start.

    • @EmbraceYourLifeMitYvonne
      @EmbraceYourLifeMitYvonne 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AshleyHagen Thanks a lot for your quick answer! But how to send a link to a landing page if I don't have the eMail addresses 🤔? This is my point. I have to collect the addresses in the first place, right? So I am not sure how to do that without having a physical space (like a studio) or a website where people can sign up for a newsletter. Or is there anything I am missing 😳?

    Hi Ashley, I’ve been taping my videos with my cell phone iPad are full and I’m having issues uploading. How do you store all your videos? On an external device?. Using your Mac computer ? I think I need to get another computer

    • @AshleyHagen
      @AshleyHagen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use my laptop for recording, record to my computer, and save all video files to an external hard drive. My computer even says it is out of space. And I have 1 TB of icloud storage. I have issues with this, too. To keep your videos extra safe, you could also safe to a cloud storage like Dropbox or AmazonS3 or Google Drive. You'd just have to pay for more space. If I used my phone, I'd at least transfer them to my computer to save on an external drive.

    No LLC?

    • @AshleyHagen
      @AshleyHagen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have an LLC. You don’t need it yo get started, though. And it shouldn’t stop you if you don’t have one.

    • @pennylayne710
      @pennylayne710 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AshleyHagen thank you for your response. I am just curious though about liability. In many states, such as Indiana, with a claim as a yoga instructor, even with malpractice, we could lose our home if we were to face a claim, so it seems for $200 an LLC is simple enough for the protection if offers. I am a clinician and legal consultant, but maybe I am jaded from medical malpractice. Curious what your thoughts were here, as I would say an LLC is imperative if not employed.

    • @AshleyHagen
      @AshleyHagen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pennylayne710 Individuals can (and should) purchase yoga liability insurance, which would protect you if any claims are filed. That is necessary. I don't think an LLC is required when someone is just starting out as a brand new teacher, but it can be helpful. Yoga teaching is a pretty low liability job, especially if it's just part time, and often it's VERY part time (2 classes per week or so). If you are planning making it more of your full-time job, or you're doing more than a couple classes a week, then creating an LLC might be in a person's best interest. Even with an LLC, yoga teacher's should still have liability insurance. An LLC does offer that extra extra level of protection, but insurance is what should cover any claims if any accidents or injuries occur. In some states, it's $800+ to file for an LLC, plus $800 per year to maintain it. It might not make sense right away for some. I'm not a lawyer or anything. This is just what's I've heard from listening to a lot of legal podcasts and discussions in yoga groups.

    Students can't see the monitor while in various poses. How about each person wears a VR headset. Personal monitor that can be viewed no matter what pose.

    • @AshleyHagen
      @AshleyHagen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the most part, I hope a yoga teachers verbal cues work well enough so that students don't have to be watching 100% of the time. Absolute beginners may need more visuals and demo, but after a few classes, it gets more comfortable listening and following without the visual component.

  • @anadisattvasudeva6315
    @anadisattvasudeva6315 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ashley ! it is not true that you need a liability insurance , I teacher many years without that!!!!! somebody lied to you and you believe !))))

    • @AshleyHagen
      @AshleyHagen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, you can teach without it. In that case, you are holding yourself 100% liable for anything that might occur, if anyone gets hurt or sues you for some odd reason (unlikely, but still possible). You can also drive a car without car insurance, and live life without health insurance, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

  • @npnegi
    @npnegi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am learning a lot from you and I am working on it I think so but can you explain to me why why I need liability insurance ? Please give some directions 🧭

    • @AshleyHagen
      @AshleyHagen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If someone gets hurt or injured in your classes, they can sue you. There’s always a risk. When you are teaching on your own, you are an independent contractor. You are a business. You should protect yourself. It’s not required, but highly recommended. Some studios will require you have it. Some studios and gyms will cover you if you are an employee.
