If you get your masters license potentially a lot more money ,the sky’s the limit . I remember feeling overwhelmed like that too when I was an apprentice. Don’t worry, once you figure out what you’re doing you’ll learn to just deal with one wire at a time. Think of it like clearing a heavily wooded area. It looks pretty intimidating at first but you just start chopping down one tree at a time and before you know it, you’ve only got a few trees left and you can see the light at the end of the tunnel approaching

    It’s better to cut stud to stud. You can screw it back in and the Sheetrock ppl can just mud it. It seems worse like you’re cutting a larger hole, but it’s better for the worker coming behind you. Sometimes people I do work for will ask if I can patch what I cut for $$$. Might as well make a few extra hundred for a little bit of extra work. Maybe it’s because I’m an electrician and not a sheet rocker, but the patch kits are a pain in the ass.

    • @traog
      @traog หลายเดือนก่อน

      On a job like this there likely isn't a worker coming behind them to fix the hole. If the home owner wants the hole patched that will be for them to schedule, and that worker can fix it as the see fit, there is more than just some mud tape and paint, the wall also has a stippled finish.

Everything is way more orgenized and the used devices in the electrical cabinet are most time protected from touching things that have live voltage.

      The IBEW has the best apprenticeship program. What major town or city are you closest to and I can get you the number to call and apply. Or you can look up IBEW apprenticeship or NJATC. If you meet the requirements and are accepted, they will place you with a contractor so you can begin your on the job training while you go to school. The pay is decent just starting as a 1st year apprentice not knowing anything. It’s usually about 50% of the journeyman pay scale for your area

    Hi Karly I am wondering how tall you are? I'm about 163cm tall so a shorter than average girl looking to start an apprenticeship (starting TAFE for a cert 2/pre apprenticeship in April) and lowkey nervous about not being as tall/strong as the average man in the trade. Have you had any issues surrounding build in this line of work? Just not looking forward to the inevitable sexism I guess. Thanks so much for your channel, you are inspiring! River - Melbourne Aus 😊

    • @traog
      @traog หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm a guy and only 3cm taller than you, being smaller framed is an advantage sometimes, crawl spaces and attics are difficult enough as a smaller person almost impossible for bigger people. As for strength issues, most of the time there are better work arounds than brute strength, and most times if brute strength is being used something is wrong, time to stop and rethink the problem, after all we are electricians not plumbers, lol.

    • @River-gz3ny
      @River-gz3ny หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much! Are you qualified? I have had the same thoughts about the confined spaces. I'm 2 weeks from finishing my pre-app now and loving it! I love that this trade is more logical and tedious than brute strength, feeling pretty validated in my choices 😊

    • @traog
      @traog หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@River-gz3ny Yes, been licensed for 15 years now. Started out in residential, 3 years, got to 2nd year level, then switched companies to more industrial, finished my apprentiship and stayed for there 8 years. Moved on into healthcare, been there 7 years now. I consider myself fortunate to have found work that I like doing, I'm good at, and it pays fairly well. Logic and attention to details are a big part of the trade, part of that is staying safe, inspite of some hazzards that come with the work. There is a good sense of accomplishment taking a job from an idea on paper, sometimes that idea on paper is yours to, and making it a real functioning product. I've all along thought that there is nothing I do that a female couldn't do if they want to, don't let anyone tell you that you can't.

    SAFETY FIRST
    You broke every safety code there is in less than 3 minutes.
    The top step of ladder is not a step.
    You stepped on the top step, used to hold screw drivers ONLY.
    Your elite apprentice was on the ladder the opposite way.
    You both do not follow safety protocols.
    If you continue these bad habits, you both will end up in the hospital with broken legs, ribs and hips.
    You both need to take a safety course.
