    • DIY Table Saw Dust Col...
In this video, I show you how I built an overarm dust collector for my table saw. With dust collection a top priority in my apartment workshop, I needed to improve the tabletop dust collection. I've seen dust collectors similar to this design on google and in woodworking magazines. I took some ideas from there as well as made my own improvements.
This design tries to focus the dust collection right over the saw blade. I didn't want anything too big that would dwarf the tabletop and look out of place. Having a smaller dust hood also helps improve the dust collection ability of the shop vac.
I added a great feature that helps improve the dust collection for "blade width" cuts or just cutting off a sliver of wood. With the addition of a slide down panel on the side of the dust hood, hardly any dust gets away when making this cut.

Probably the best over arm home-built solution I've seen. Nice job.

Well thought out and made. Thanks for leaving in the errors and corrective solutions. Errors and are part of every project. Solutions are what make a good woodworker.

This came out great. I've been thinking of designs and researching overhead dust collection for a while. This is one of the best and lowest profile designs I've seen.

You just helped me solve a problem I’ve been wrestling with for weeks. Great example of the sheer genius of a true engineer. I can follow plans like no body’s business but wish I had the mind to engineer stuff like this. Thank you for posting.

This is simply the best dust collection system I've ever seen on the web. A very creative and effective system. I actually thought it was factory made until I saw the rest of the video. Superb job!!

Very well done project and video. On the video side, I particularly like that you showed the end result before jumping into the build. For me, it is so much more helpful to know where we are going as I watch the build. Thanks.

    A. This is a brilliant idea that is very well execute. B. I admire anyone who pursues their woodworking passion in such a challenging environment. I am set up in 2bays of a 3 car garage, and feel like I need more space. I'm spoiled! Great work!

Excellent choices in polycarbonate and the red and black paint. Very striking.

I really appreciate the safety you practiced during this video. With your hold-down device and keeping your hands far away from the table saw blade. I watch too many where the hands are much closer.

The design of the cover itself is exactly what I envisioned. Your airflow layout captures the dust efficiently because it works with the momentum of the dust as it shoots forward off the spinning blade instead of against it. Even the highest-end options available on the market today don't work nearly as efficiently as this design because they pull the dust vertically instead of at this angle. This is the first video I've seen of yours, but this design alone is enough for me to subscribe. Hope to see more from you.

Man that's clean (no pun intended) - I really like how you molded the collector hose to the shroud, very cool.

I bought your plans last Monday and finished my build tonight. What a major difference!! I have a basement wood shop shared by laundry and exercise area and this absolutely eliminates the top side dust that's so hard to eliminate. Thanks for the design !

I love YOU !!! I am just now getting around to adding woodworking into my studio, and your videos are so inspiring for many reasons...you're funny, practical, but also very creative, and you have adjusted your workspace for tools/machinery and your own designs to fit in your space. Bravo! 😊

Justin, you are a talented and sensible young man. Beyond the expertise in a simple build like this, I'm amazed that your workshop is in an apartment! Obviously necessity is the mother of invention, but not everyone has the same ingenuity.

Great dust collector! One of the best and simplest solutions I’ve seen. I’ve been looking for a simple solution for my old craftsman table saw. Thank you.
