it was for a school project and i happen to know his son i was 15 or 16 at the time. pulled some strings (no pun intended) and got him to do an interview with me. what you saw was the five min break in between switching discs from my handheld. it was great fun sitting next to a living legend and talking to him like a human being. of course i was and am still star struck. im glad that i get to share with you one of the best moments in my life. thanks for the comment.
+David Guo Not that i actually complain about my 120 dolar guitar but this video proves nothing. The guitar player in this video is Joe FUCKING Satriani. Of course HE is going to be able to play his original song on that guitar. And even he says "i can't do that part!" and "that was a little painful on this guitar."
algimantas navikas omg yeah. He has the video as proof. However, this guitar won't be sold until the uploader dies, and even then it could end up with one of his kids for another 100 years.
I wonder if he use light gauge strings because that helps you bend them; i like to tap the strings like Edward Van Halin so I am a pro. but I think this guy is a wannabe. this is not pro look at the miccrowave oven its not good for sound.
i know his son and joe lives in the same city as me so i only had to beg for a long time i'm trying to put the interview on here too but its really long (like 1hr and a half)
*Gives one of the cleanest renditions of the song he ever played (ignoring cheap tone)* Joe: "That was a little painful on this guitar" Everyone: I wish when I struggled with my guitar I sounded half as good
This is the proof that tone come from fingers...Every guitarist spend so much time and so much money trying to achieve the tone of Satriani or Bryan May...but this guys don't need awesome equipment or guitar or effects..the tone is in them...amazing
@@stevemora7845 That's great. If one must choose, I'd also rather have skills than good equipment, but I would know my true potential was being stifled by my awful gear. Fortunately, good guitarists, more often than not, have good equipment. Satch and I will continue to appreciate and enjoy using our professional gear while you jam on your Chinese guitar through your Line 6 Spider.
If memory serves me correct, I believe TheMexican1 once commented that he is friends with Joe's son Zacharhia Zane, he was visiting, and Joe had came by to pick him up.
I love this video because it is just amazing how good this sounds on an average guitar and amp, it just shows you it is all about the musician not the instrument.
Great video. It's wonderful to see one of the "gods" of guitar, using average gear and yet achieving the same sound and feel of their hit song. I wonder how many other guitarists would turn up their noses to play when given an inferior, non-branded gear. Rock on Joe...
It's a cheaper guitar, strings don't look like light gauge, it takes a toll on note bends and vibrato with heavier strings, plus the action might have been higher than he's used to. Takes a toll on fingers when you play like he does, but it still sounded great!!
Wow, so much fun to watch! Thanks for posting! Most people don't realize it, but Satch IS ACTUALLY AN ALIEN who was sent to earth to teach humans to enjoy life more fully through extreme creative experience. Thanks again!
Ok , That Impresses me VERY , because to see him play on a relatively "Cheap" Strat , and to see how SMOOTH he moves also in the upper registers , it makes much Fun to see him Play ...Joe Satriani , i mean really one of the greatest ..

En efecto jaja es de admirar realmente, aunque si prestas algo de atención la guitarra estaba algo "tuneada" por asi decirlo... pero bueno pasa tampoco puedes esperar mucho de una guitarra menor a los 90 dolares
Great vidéo, I'm surprise by the passion and joy of Joe when he play THE song that he have played many many times it's a famous guitar song a challenge for any new guitarist, and he plays it like he just learn it,I think he's hooked on guitar and that's the secret ;) keep on rocking with this guitar master;)jp
One, class act, Joe is one of the most down to earth regular people on the planet. Two, yeah that guitars value just skyrocketed. Three aside from the higher notes. It is exactly the same. Amazing.....
haha, this is such an inspiration, thanks for putting this up, it's pretty shocking to see a virtuoso playing on gear that's not exactly the best, and still having it come out pretty awesome. Every time I see stuff like this it really gives me more of a reason to get better at guitar and really push my limits, thanks man.
That's very cool. Joe hasn't been on my radar as a guitarist for a long time now, but I've always enjoyed his stuff and been floored by his talent. I had my 'Joe Satriani' phase too. Every single thing I've ever heard, seen, or read corroborates that he is a great person to be around and talk to. You're a luck man to have met him in this capacity. Ah, glad to know I'm not the only one. The other day I woke up with the sound of someone playing the November Rain solo on my living room, I rushed there to find Slash playing with my gear. What the hell is wrong with these celebrities invading people's homes to use their guitars?
yes there it is, i couldn't find it again, i was searching "joe in my house/garage" ^^ great instructional video, extreme zooming and only joe. thx joe and the mexican.
+hotdoggravy However you do need gear that is comfortable and right for you. That may end up in paying a little high. Your statement is true though. Beginners shouldn't go out and get a USA Delux or standard Strat, but rather a Mexican.
yep, I just don't get why people bought those though it's just the same in my ears if it is between the upper middle range and top of the line gear but you can sound the same because effects are getting better and better, I think chappers have reviewed an amp that can change your tuning without you doing it manually, you'll only need an amp app to do that so basically, some time in the future, we can copy tube amp tone using an effects pedal or a solid state amp.
@hotdoggravy you don't need it if you're joe satriani! actually, you never need it. but you should start with equipment that is friendly. if your action is too high, or the guitar just sounds like crap, you will be discouraged
I'm surprised that guitar didn't burst into flames or disintegrate halfway through the song. Seriously, though, I've met Joe on two occassions-- it is hard to imagine a more accommodating and gracious rock legend.
@Ferrockarril my goodness its been years since ive used that rp200 if i can remember correctly it was the artist series of the rp200 i believe it was one of the solo settings either 71 or 81, its the one with solo wah! hope that helped you

Brilliant 🎸
So my guitar wasn't the problem. Must be the amp then.
Yeah,
I had to buy expensive guitars just to realize I sound just as good on a 200$ Squier Tele no matter what amp I used lol
Lmao
Anybody who likes to complain "I don't have the right guitar" should watch this!

cheap guitar but, as for every guitar, the guitar player makes the difference !
Made a 100.00 guitar sound like a million dollars!!!
guitars worth increased by 10 000$ after this

Plot twist: TheMexican1 makes *every* house guest he has play Surfing with the Alien.
😂😂, absolutely knee jerkin!
This man proved to be a great guitarist does not have to use the expensive gear. even on a Strat Copy at a Fan’s Home.
Good Job Satriani!
He nails that "Guitar Center on a Saturday afternoon" tone!
Stephen Beatty hahaha
LMAO!
dude that was so close!!! this guy should be in a band... and buy a damn whammy... sounded like the original alright
nicolhaidi that's probably because this actually is Joe Satriani

Nobody seems to understand irony this days

When teachers told us that we didn't needed a Marshall and a Gibson to sound great we never believed them.
este tipo toca hasta con una escoba y suena fantástico!
jajaja correcto =)
Kick ass! He's awesome. How he could make that starter setup sound that good is pure skill and experience. My hat is off to Joe, as it always is.

Joe S lucky charms ? And then he was trapped in

You shoulda been whipping up one hell of a meal for Joe. While he was Surfin With The Alien, you shoulda been surfin with the dishes lol.
This comment is one of the funniest I’ve read in awhile. Underrated comment. Well done! Lol
There is strong reason why someone is called Virtuoso...
Definitely, the tone is in the fingers.
LesPaul2006 That's what i said "Neither the bow nor the arrow matters, but the indian"
Juan Iparraguirre They do matter, but not as much as many people think.
not really, his tone sounds like shit.
Good technic but tone stinks
